If you can’t be bothered to check your alti at least once or don’t notice ground rush below 1,000 feet, then you should sell your rig and take up bowling or knitting.
Unfortunately there’s no cure for stupid, but luckily there are AADs, and the double CYPRES fire is what saved both of their a**es. I especially love the altitude awareness once he lands. Yes, sir, you are at zero feet. Oh, and the icing on the cake: they found both free bags… tangled together.

I think you have more sense than that skydiver. We all know the automatic altitude device should open the reserve parachute when we are knocked out or in trouble but nobody thinks to put it to the test. He's alive but now he has to pay money to get his reserve parachute repacked,go to hospital and get the "ON BRAIN" switch turned on, face the Drop Zone Safety Officer, fill out a report for the Parachute Association, get grounded after a grilling by Chief Instructor and DZSO and maybe go through student training again to emphasise checking the altimeter on his wrist and eyeballing the ground and note to self "do not fall asleep in sky in freefall because the alarm clock hurts (the ground)" and pull the pilotchute out and deploy parachute. He would have a lot to deal with after that jump. Your sentiments are correct. Eddy old skydiver Lower Light South Australia 21/4/2024 17:50 hrs Adelaide standard time.

I have 19 skydives now. And I can now understand how this happened. They got so focused on the task that they forgot to check altitude. It happened once to me. I was on STP 11, playing altitude tag with instructor. My pull altitude was 5,000. I completely forgot to check after 7,000 feet. Instructor finally got through to me at 4,000, and I deployed my main at 3,500. Not the best feeling. Just like these guys, I learned my lesson. Always check altitude every 5 seconds.

Well, I have flewn many times with an energency chute, and I can tell you one thing. Look down and open that chute in time. It looked like he got a fixation for that altimeter. Whatever it was, there is something seriously wrong with this person. How did somebody like that get into skydiving? If he were normal before, he should really go to a doctor. He could have early signs of dementia. Or he has another neurological problem. This is not a joke, this video is worrying enough. Let him find out what is going on, before he gets killed. Lower awareness and fixation can kill you in many situations. Skydiving, driving a car, crossing the road, you name it. So if you know him, please tell him to find medical help. Before it is too late.

@@GayCatDad You are absolutely right. I live near EHTE with an excelent skydiving school. And the guys doing their 10th jump there, are safer than this moron. Even I can see the beginners are beginners. Their landings are not always perfect. They are not precision landers too. But in general they are okay. And I never heard of stupid mistakes like this video. Why did his chute not open automatically at a safe altitude? Those systems exist for good reasons. He just proved that. He needs a serious debriefing with a skydiving instructor. The goal is not just call him a moron. He might even have a medical condition explaining a lot. A good skydiving instructor can help him get his skills to a safe level. Or he can convince him to sell his chute, if he won't listen. Can't the FAA or that skydiving organization withdraw his license? This video proves he can not jump!

I have ADHD. The closest I got to forgetting to deploy was my first AFF jump and second jump ever (I did a tandem before I did AFFs) It got to 6000ft where we were supposed to deploy. I saw my alti say 6000ft and in my head I said to myself "Okay, 6000ft, I need to deploy now" and by the time I said that in my head, the altimeter said 5000ft and my instructor was waving his finger in my face telling me to deploy now or he'll deploy for me. Of course I deployed and passed my first jump. That was the start of the end. Now I'm living in a small rented apartment with a rubbish car buying cheap food and doing everything I can to avoid spending one more penny. At this point whenever I see a price tag, I convert it into how many jumps that could've been. Fuuun times.
