This skydive took place in Deland, Florida, one of the world’s premiere skydiving cities. During a skills camp organized by professional skydiving group, FLY4LIFE. Malfunctions are common in skydiving; however, the double parachute malfunction is feared, and to experience one and survive is few and far between. To survive unscathed WITHOUT A SCRATCH is unheard of, and that’s what happened here to me.

Shit man. I use the fact that my trainers have all jumped over 1000 times without having a screwy incident to keep me confident in my jumps. But this here is my biggest fear in jumping. Dude, if this is your channel and you uploaded your own video, I'm so sorry this happened to you and I'm damn happy you're okay. Genuinely.
@iloveaviation-burgerclub-a8145
@iloveaviation-burgerclub-a8145 2 года назад
As a result of my thinking I'd propose you this: You maybe should be confident in: 1. YOUR gear 2. YOUR pack job 3. YOUR load members 4. YOUR failure management capabilities 5. YOUR skills 6. YOUR physis 7. YOUR control ... To shorten this: in your damn self and your ability to stay working under deadly conditions. Most incidents start with a flawy pack job or unstable pull or mid air collision in free fall or under the canopy. Excluding things like low level hook turns and high velocity swoop landings or power lines and obstacles. There is nobody but yourself saving your ass up there. So train hard. Act under pressure. Do a reliable pack job. Jump the plan. Watch out for idiots and fame jumpers and stay away from. Take care on your gear. Any detail is vital. Any deadly incident costs a friend. Happy landings bro. 🤙

same thing happened to me on my 30th skydive. forgot to cock the pilot chute and had a bag lock. I reached back to grab the bridle and pulled the pin like that. The canopy opened a few seconds after that. looking back on it now I am amazed how I had the situational awareness to do the right thing back then. That could have saved this dude a lot of stress. brother, i am glad you are ok. very happy you made it out alive. i am pretty sure others have scrutinized what actually happened. from an outside view, pilot chute was not cocked, at least thats what it looked like. hard to tell. looks like reserve deployed right into the bridle. when reserve released, the main was loosened to also come out of the container. may want to get a master rigger to look at all your gear to make sure it fits. secondly, if you packed it, you may want to get some more help. maybe you packed it a little fat. maybe you stacked grommets. lots could have happened. i am glad you are ok. stay safe.

What happened is he wasn't experienced enough to be flying a small reserve and probably not even that main. He didn't practice his eps enough and almost killed himself. He never disconnected his main from his reserve rip chord. Wasting time reaching over his shoulders and not trying to pull the main out by the bridle. Probably caused the panic and forgot he should probably disconnect the rsl before deploying his reseve. A pilot chute in tow is a fairly common malfunction amongst the lazy and broke, and and easy one to fix. A little tug is usually all that is needed. If that's not all that's needed you fucked up somewhere else and shouldn't be jumping. This is a bad representation of the sport. Completely pilot error. Maybe golf, or bowling is more up his ally.

I still have the video recording of my Parachuting. First we were given a training of what to do, and what not to do. But it was also a cold bitter windy day, and so the ground was rock solid. But off we went, up into the sky. Then came the moment. I jumped out of the plane and did the best that I could to be in control. Via radio communication, I was also being guided on my way down. I hit the solid ground very hard and I am still puzzled as to how my hip was not broken. I survived. Then ambulances began to show up. Others were not so lucky when hitting the rock solid ground. More assistance was required for the others who drifted off course due to the wind, and ended up stuck up in the trees. Simply put, it should have been cancelled due to the nasty weather conditions. But I did receive an award for being the best jumper of the day.

this is why you NEVER EVER GIVE UP!! Looks to me like his pilot chute was not cocked (because it never inflated), and something (i'd like to know what) caught on the reserve deployment after cutting away. As far as emergency proceedures are concerned, this jumper did everything right, and he FOUGHT IT TO THE GROUND which is what you must do. ANYTHING above you is better than NOTHING. count his lucky stars.

@cameraflyer Thanks for responding. I would not want to give out incorrect info. However, the 2021 USPA SIM says: (1) For a pilot-chute-in-tow malfunction, there are currently two common and acceptable procedures, both of which have pros and cons. (2) An instructor should be consulted prior to gearing up, and each skydiver should have a predetermined course of action. PILOT CHUTE IN TOW PROCEDURE 1: Pull the reserve immediately. A pilotchute-in-tow malfunction is associated with a high descent rate and requires immediate action. The chance of a mainreserve entanglement is slim, and valuable time and altitude could be lost by initiating a cutaway prior to deploying the reserve. Be prepared to cutaway. PILOT CHUTE IN TOW PROCEDURE 2: Cut away, then immediately deploy the reserve. Because there is a chance the main parachute could deploy during or as a result of the reserve activation, a cutaway might be the best response in some situations. (3) In some cases, the parachute system used for the jump will require specific procedures that must be followed to reduce the chances of a main/reserve entanglement if the main canopy deploys after the reserve parachute is deployed. Check with the manufacturer of your harness and container for any specific procedures It's almost the same discussion as whether to use the two and or one hand pull sequence for cutaways (I am firmly in the two handed camp); appears that both have their pros-cons. It's been a while since I taught much, but I've been a USPA SL I now for about 20 years...Lastly, I found out that it wasn't a non-cocked pilot chute, the jumper says he was packing his pilot chute wrong and induced a knot...same result. Most important thing here is: NEVER EVER GIVE UP

Turned out my main fell out from the opening shock of the reserve .. I had opened at 900 feet .. we finally found the main (after 3 days) and it was mostly still in the bag. In this situation it was an improperly packed pilot chute that resulted in a pilot chute in tow. Basically the pilot chute got tangled in its bridal (which connects to the D-Bag) and couldn’t catch air so it was just floating behind the skydiver here in his burble (pocket of turbulent air immediately behind a skydiver). When he cutaway and went to his reserve, it deployed into the pilot chute and caused the line over and subsequent entanglement. This situation could be prevented by 2 things: don’t cut away on a pilot chute in tow, instead go straight to reserve, and also with a fairly small change in pilot chute packing strategies, and that is being adopted in the community now. Skydiving is the most fun I’ve experienced, and would highly recommend you at least visit the drop zone near you and talk to some people about this incident and what could be done differently to prevent it occurring to this degree again. It’s a life changing sport to say the least, it does carry some inherent risk, but as a community we are always trying to be safer and learn from every incident like this one.

@@lukasyelle4708 how do you go straight to reserve? I thought your main is attached to the reserve, so you're saying to disconnect the RSL before deploying the reserve?
