Yes, he was a deadbeat for most of the series. That's why I suspect the Gilmores just pretended to like him, because they wanted to make it easier for Christopher to re-enter Lorelai and Rory's lives and to encourage him to become a success, for their daughter and grand daughter's sake. In this season 1 episode, following the clip above, remember the scene where Lorelai confronted her father about his love for Christopher after Straub insulted her and Richard threw him out, but her father said he was merely defending the family name and not her. He said that he wanted to kill Christopher when he found out that he impregnated Lorelai but that he was counting on the two of them getting married. In season 6, Emily told Christopher that she never thought much of him but that she didn't think he'd stand in the way of Lorelai's greatness. She made it very clear that she approved of him only because he came from the right background and had good breeding. And finally, in the episode 'Friday Night Is for Fighting' both Emily and Richard laugh in Lorelai's face when she says that Christopher should pay Rory's Yale tuition because he's her father. After that, I was pretty sure Emily and Richard only wanted Lorelai with Christopher because he's Rory's father and it would look better to the people in their circle.
Considering even from a young young age, that Emily & Richard always complimented and praised Christopher- That Lorelai could stand him enough to have a relationship with him.
No they didn't, they only tolerated him because he was from a good family, Emily basically called him stupid and worthless to his face in like season 5 or so
@@Nocturne22 The way they discuss it I think they must have got the key recently and I don't blame her for never using it again just to avoid another Emily glare
Why were the Gilmores so in love with Cristoph guy. Like, he's a deadbeat dad, he got Lorelei pregnant, he doesn't make his own money, spends his dad's money. Richard and Emily treat him better than their own daughter, when she made smth of herself, by her own, and he is still a slacker.
I 100% agree with you. I think the reason they were, to use your words:”In love with Christopher” is because both Emily & Richard grew up during a time where getting pregnant out of wedlock was still considered “taboo”. In a flashback episode Strobe, Francine, Emily & Richard decided that Christopher would work in Richard’s insurance company after he and Lorelei got married. They foolishly believed that marriage was the only solution to their problem. Keep in mind that Emily & Richard hold the Gilmore name quite high so this was also their way of saving face(the Gilmore reputation & status). I believe the reason they showed care towards Christopher was because deep down, both Emily & Richard still wanted them to get married. To quote Emily:”When you get pregnant you get married, a child needs a mother and a father.”
@@thepragmaticexistentialist Yes, I really don't understand how everyone don't see how Emily treats Lorelai but gets mad when Lorelai does the same thing and feela sorry for Emily. It just blows my mind.
