THis is the skit that my dad saw and told me I couldn’t watch this anymore.

What I love about this is Richards plays a kid being an actual KID, with all the horrible shit that it entails. He's not a TV kid, he's a real life kid. This is way closer to how a lot of kids actually played with army guys.

I can see how he came to his Stanley spudousky charecter in uhf. Love his humor bettet than Kaufman. Also mark blankfield too.

The character was overly morbid, but otherwise: I completely agree.

When you were 10, this was hilarious. That's how old I was, and 1980 was fuckin AWESOME!! Probably only because it came right after the 70s, which can barely even be described....maybe "Paradise "!

Devo was the highlight of that night! Actually, SNL was Devo's first international show.

ain't nothing like waiting in the quiet audience for the show Fridays to begin , director saying, "All quiet", then the countdown, 3,..2,..1... when, without any warning, comes Battle Boy, screaming at jet-decibel volume, "AAAHHH!!!" It's enough to cause a stroke!

Remember, this was on late night Friday, when parents were already asleep in bed after a long week of work, and many parents did not let their kids watch SNL. But teens stayed up to watch Fridays. I know I did. It was funnier if we got HAF first. Cable TV was not universal, not many VCRs in homes. This was unique boundary pushing Network TV comedy. The woman actually said a curse word, "hell". Such language was not allowed on network TV before 11pm. But "hell" occasionally slipped through if said in the proper context.

Fridays was parodying SNL and testing the audience on whatvwas real and what was make believe. SNL had Kaufman on after Friday's because SNL was Afraid Fridays would surpass them.
@TVEyeDirt1970
@TVEyeDirt1970 6 лет назад
Except Fridays philosophy of "testing the audience" led to the fake fight between Kaufman and Richards (very much Andy's idea) which a lot of people still remember today. Whereas SNL didn't have the insight to even consider something like that. Fridays was a perfect platform for Andy's whole "schtick."

But don't you see? It was supposed to creep you out a little. That's how a lot of kids are. Little psychos with dreams of growing up to kill and conquer. When your understanding of war comes from playing war instead of actually being in a war, and there's no actual danger to yourself, then war can seem cool. Looking at Battle Boy, you just know he's going to grow up into the kind of guy that napes an entire village for kicks. Or else becomes a politician.
