I’m Chinese but we had fried Bologna sandwiches just by itself. We ate them growing up, my mom would make them a few time a week. As we grew, we adding eggs, onions and cheese on them. It’s an American classic that everyone loves
My mom used to fry it with some ketchup right in the pan. There were six of us and we were far from rich but we never went hungry. I lost her just over a year ago and it hurts every day. Love you Sara.

Oh child! I loved fried bologna sandwiches as a kid. My fondest memories though are from high school. I'd go to the weekend barn dance, drink some hooch, and then sneak off to the stable and give the football team all the "bologna sandwiches" they wanted. Oh stop! Then we'd go out 🐄 tippin' and vandalizin'. Oh child!

I'll make a few of these sandwiches for my wife Sara. The little woman has had a really difficult few days because of some freak accidents and this will perk her up. You see, Monday, we went to the museum of flight and while walking on the runway, I "accidentally" pushed her and she almost fell into the spinning propeller of a vintage fighter plane. Hehe. Good thing she only got a hematoma on her head from hitting the tarmac. Hehe. The next day I borrowed Jeb's backhoe to dig a new septic tank pit. I asked my wife to check how deep it was and then I "accidentally" swung the dipper boom around and knocked her in the hole. Hehe. It was 4 ft. deep so she didn't get hurt. She just got dirt in her mouth. Hehe. I'm thinking of drawing her a bath to help her relax. I sure hope I don't "accidentally" fill the tub with scalding water. Hehe. Hehe.

I used to LOVE fried bologna sandwiches on white toast...began doing that more than 50 yrs. ago. I didn't use oil, 'cause there was enough in the meat, itself. I made deep cuts from the outside rim inward which allowed the full surface of the slices to make happy contact with the dry pan; cooks FAST that way, not all the tossing. I cook it 'til its crispy like bacon but not burnt. Hellmann's YES! And nothing else! MMMMmmmm....haven't had that for a couple decades, due to sodium and preservative restrictions. (But I might just get a couple slices and toss caution to the winds...just this once)! [Don't tell anybody, okay]? : )
I agree with that method as well. My mom did it that way when we were kids. Cutting it and just letting it fry no oil. Go ahead and have a little half a Sammy this decade. We should give ourselves a little reward for good behavior. Sounds like you have been on a strict regimen, and good for you also! Thanks for sharing brought back memories.
We always cut 4 slits around the outside of the bologna. When they shrunk from cooking they looked like Maltese crosses. Hence, the fancy name, the Maltese sandwich.
Growing up my grandfather made fried balogna sandwiches with ring balogna, Colby Jack cheese on warm bakery rolls from the local bakery in town. They were parker house rolls. I always liked mine with mustard and dill pickles. SOOOO good!

I'm a burn it gal. Not to a crisp but close. With mustard on both sides of the bread and crispy iceberg lettuce, served with nacho doritos and a dr. pepper. Gah, now I need one. Sooooo yummy!
Growing up I just had the very fried bologna on fresh Merita white bread with mustard. But now I love sunbeam white bread with really golden fried bologna with dukes mayo and garden tomatoes! Soooo good!
Watching this video gave me a craving for fried bologna sandwiches lol I also like to fry mine crispy around the edges. I like to add an egg over medium and fry the bread in some butter too. Might not be the healthiest, but it sure does taste good.

Try fried Linguica, it's even tastier than Kielbasa, but I'm biased I guess, I'm from New England and grew up eating Linguicia and I'm part Portuguese (Linguica is Portuguese sausage).
I have a small smoker to make Salo/Fish but I really like to make Varenyky, Chebureki, Deruni and Borscht. My Holubtsi is more like Polish Golumpki. Both are excellent.

Depends on the bologna. Sweet Lebanon don't need much. A little kiddy mustard evens out. To each their own. Whoop is good, too . There is a lot of haters of the Miracle. It's personal preference. I like the whoop on B.L.T'S. Just my opinion.
My grandfather made them for us as a kid. He added a fried egg, mustard and cheese. Nothing else. On wonder white sandwich bread. Amazing. Only thing he could cook, but was a pro at it.
I just posted this in another Sara video! We didn’t have Bologna in the UK but we had pork luncheon meat, which looked pretty similar. I was one of eight kids and my dad was dead. So my mum would buy a little tin of pork luncheon meat, slice it really thin and fry it. We called it square bacon! I’d eat it right now if someone put it in front of me
During one of my deployments in Iraq, we were all describing how poor we were in childhood, and what our favorite meals were. One soldier excitingly said, “Remember the bologna bowels?” None of us knew what she was talking about. She described to us how her mother would put bologna in the oven and allow it to curl into a bowel, take it out and put hot mashed potatoes in it, and top with government cheese. It sounded so wonderful to eat, and we thought her mom was a genius! 😋
My grandpa used to get up in the night to make these, he’d just do the “star cut” and get it really crispy, ketchup, yellow mustard and squishy white bread, he called it a flat hot dog and seemed like a 2am craving! I’d smell it and creep out to the kitchen, he’d let me have some or he’d be making pierogi (another sleep disturbing smell!) and we’d watch wrestling, boxing, or movies my grandma would’ve disapproved of like the Exorcist! I miss my grandparents, both of them shared the title of BEST ❤️🙏🏻❤️ I can’t see, hear, smell or taste bologna without a wave of emotions…funny the things that trigger strong feelings :)
Do you need to make cuts toward the center so it lays flat? IF I make one now, doing it in the microwave sounds a lot more convenient; I never would have thought of that! Thanks for the idea!
Omg’sh, that’s a blast from the past! Lol I made these as a kid. My mom bought the Oscar Meyer thin Bologna too, and we’d slit the outsides. But I never cooked them in grease before, I guess we thought it was greasy enough already..lol I don’t buy Bologna anymore ever, because of the Nitrites, but those were the good ole days! Just super fresh soft white bread (sunbeam where I live, even though my father worked for Sarah lee), Mayo, and a little mustard. Grew up on fried bologna. I always put the fried bologna and cheese on the bread. Put butter on the outside of the bread. Put the sandwich in the skillet and grill the bread on both sides. Add just onion and mustard

After my mom put the bologna sandwich together she would put the sandwich back in the pan with a little butter and toast it on both sides. It added so much more flavor. OMG ! It was good and still is today.
That’s your haute cuisine right there. I would add a tiny bit of mayo 👌 but don’t overdo it. Like 5 tablespoons would do. Edit: sorry didn’t watch til the end before I commented. Of course there was mayo. What was I thinking
Count me too. I would never eat this. I had to eat it when I was a kid. I swore among the things I would never do when I grew up was eat bologna or velveeta, among other things.
You can still get hormel D shaped spiced ham. My mom use to eat it on butter bread. I buy a quarter lb once in a great while, when I’m really missing her and feeling nostalgic.
In my childhood the bread was toasted/fried in the pan and the bologna, we put cheese in the middle as well. We ate them by themselves or with Chili, or Tomato Soup. I have great memories from the food you make, sometimes we all need to travel back to the simple times and just enjoy.

This takes me back 40 years. We lived in Canada & were travelling through West Virginia. We saw “fried bologna sandwich” on a menu and ordered it for our then 4 year old son. He talks about the deliciousness to this day. I remember it was thick sliced bologna on a toasted hamburger bun.

We used to eat fried bologna and fried potatoes with ketchup for breakfast (or supper!). Yuuumm! If it was a sandwich, it was thick, un-fried bologna, fluffy white bread, mustard and LOTS of onions! I'm literally drooling and a little bit nostalgic.
This is called round steak in my home !! I can cook a meal and sometimes they will complain that they don't feel like eating what I cook for dinner and I let them know there is round steak in the fridge make you a fried bolony sandwich,which I' m not knocking it cause I love bolony myself!
These things have been my guilty pleasure ever since I was a kid. No one I've made them for doesn't like them. Bread - mayo - bologna - processed yellow melty cheese slice - bologna - yellow mustard - bread. Hell yeah. For the ultimate sandwich, add bacon and hot dogs that have been fried, cut cross-wise and then "butterflied" down their length. Or skip all of that and just add fried pepperoni slices. 🤤
My mom & grandma would make us fried bologna sandwiches, but they'd put Worcestershire sauce on them. No cheese, no pickle, nothing but bologna fried in butter, on white bread with a couple of dashes of the Lea & Perrins. I believe that's how my great-grandmother from Nova Scotia made them. Very tasty!
My dad was from the south and we grew up on these for sure he loved his dark dark brown with pimento cheese spread on dark rye bread or toast (to this day I love bologna on the dark rye because of him). It is yummy!😋 I Love mine dark dark brown too on white toast with a fried egg. Plain on toast or with a little slice tomatoe and mayo or the pimento cheese is good too. I do find cutting the edges works best for me to keep them flat.

Growing up my family didn't have much money but my Queen Momma would make homemade tortillas, we'd fry bologna and put it in a tortilla add some mustard and roll it to be a burrito, we thought we were in Heaven, 🤤🤤🤤
So good ! Just a few years ago I learned a super cheap, super filling meal to make. It's called fried balogna cups. You deep fry your bologna in bbq sauce then put your bbq balogna on a plate and then top it with the box cream of potatoes. And you wouldn't believe how addictive those things are !
