Today I took a ride up to the Royal Fish Market in Newark NJ on South Orange ave. This section of Newark is called the westward and I would consider it to be deep in Newark. Some of you who are familiar with or grew up in the area may remember Boylan Street recreation center and pool. Also if you were to continue traveling up the hill another two minutes you will arrive at Seton Hall University.

Places with Friday fish nights, you oughta host those & fry that up for your own Friday fish night gatherings, mix it up too I love with mashed potatoes since I was little, loved with baked potatoes at restaurant in the 1980s

You should try a place in Passaic NJ called fancy fish on Monroe St and Central Ave if you want some good fried red snapper and tilapia with the head on like you like

Hey Matt! Right up the street is where they make VeggieTarry health drinks which are so good. They distribute to many of the Caribbean restaurants in NJ/NY area in cases, but if you happen to be at a Jamaican restaurant and they carry that line, give it a try. My husband loves the carrot punch, I like the soursop. They have a website too. Great natural flavors 👌🏾.

Fried fish so good I even like without any extras on (except for salt & vinegar) but it's still good by itself but I love with tartar, also FRY SAUCE! Onion salt works good to add also I like to season the fish before the batter added, LOVE beer batter

Good day Matt. That is true the fish that is pre cut is not that fresh. It won't kill you but it is not the best. It is always the cheap fish. That is why they use a lot of salt and corn meal on the fish. Then you put the hot sauce which so many of our people do so you also help mask the real taste of the fish. But! you always enjoy what you eat and that is good. Remember you said we are all going to do a meet up at the new Vegan spot in Newark when the Summer is over. My dad's name was Joe Blackwell when he cooked fish we had lines hanging out the door. We also so chicken wings sandwiches we had every high school elementary school and middle school placing orders sometimes orders with average of between 20 to 30 sandwiches my Aunt Louise held it down to my dad got off work then he took over. When my dad had it it was called Blackwell's Fishmarket this act the old-timers around the neighborhood they'll tell you. My father passed in 2019 of covid Houston seed directly across the street on the corner that's cream and color is where I used to live. I graduated from East Orange High School 1979 -1982. Then my name was Stephanie Dockery.

Love your vids man. I’m Essex County too. You gotta check out local Italian delis and bakeries. Nicola’s Bakery downtown Montclair right by Glen Ridge border off the Ave is the SPOT. Best bread in the state. Get the Italian hero or the chicken cutlet with broccoli rabe hero. Or if you go in the morning step to the pepperoni and egg frittata or the pepper and egg frittata. Frittata = Italian breakfast sandwiches on long rolls. Can’t miss homie.
