You are kickin' ass all over the planet there dude Epic!! When you kick on that SD1 you really take it balls to the wall! You really know how to dial it in.
I'm trying to decide between this, the Friedman Runt, and Laney Ironheart 60. I play dirty blues to hard rock to 80's-90's metal. Needs to sound good at low volume. Which would you recommend?
I love it when Euge gets his "80's hard-rock" on. I actually prefer it with the Buxom Boost, as opposed to the SD-1, but either way, I don't think people appreciate just what an enormously versatile, rock-n-roll machine this thing is. And, it's so simple. Just the gain knob, or your volume knob and this thing takes you straight into Texas Blues territory if you have a single coil in the neck. That's exactly why I bought mine. One axe with an HSS setup, and this amp covers all the genre's that made a lot of us play guitar in the first place. Great demo, Euge! I was wondering when you would work your way around to demo'ng this amp. *Btw....is that a Plexi re-issue you were comparing it to??? You had it dialed in REALLY well...not too much gain, with the perfect amount of bite.* And, I agree with you 100%. Marshall's (and SLO's) sound better to me with their mids. Friedman's are a bit too compressed. But, that particular Friedman is a REALLY nice amp. I may pick up a Twin Sister before it's all over with, for that reason. But, a 70's JMP (especially with the right mod) is the quintessential sound, IMHO.
Hi Euge! Would you consider making a test of Friedman JJ Junior amp head? I'm big Alice in Chains and Jerry Cantrell fan, so I'm really interested in this amp. But in Europe they are quite pricey and here in Poland it's quite impossible to find one in the store to check by yourself. I tried vst plugin by ML Sound Lab (Flagship) and it was terrible, especially JJ amp simulation. Can't believe, that Jerry's signature amp could sound remotly like this. So, yeah, some clarification would be more then welcome :)
That things got a mean growl for Rhythm tone you dialed in kinda between a Marshall and an Orange it’s beefy ! Have you ever checked out the Pink Taco that’s the Friedman I’d like to check out it’s supposed to be a little BE but I’m skeptical about the el84s as they tend to get too woofy for me at volume.
I think for me I don't have a super clear preference between Marshall vs Friedman sound, maybe slightly bit towards Marshall, it's just more raw. But the main issue for me with Friedman's, they're just too expensive compared to Marshall. Little Sister is 2000. SV20H, or ST20H depending on your flavor, are each 900. You can buy both and still have them cheaper than just 1 Friedman. Friedman just isn't worth twice the price of a Marshall, to me! To some, they might of course. As always, taste varies :)
If you like the sound of the Marshalls more, then get the Marshall. I like both. Your price, if U.S., is incorrect. Sweetwater has the Friedman Little Sister is listed at $1500.00 and the Marshall SV20H, ST20H are listed at $1750.00. The Friedman signature 20's are a little more but still less than Marshall 20's. If you are undecided and comparing the two brands, then consider this. Friedman not only offers price but build quality and customer service that is second to none.
@@jtbranman I am not. I'm in Europe and my prices are in euros. Build quality of Marshall is great too so not sure about that one. Plus they use PCBs, which even Dave have admitted is superior in almost every way. Friedman's PCB amp (Runt) is the one with the least issues according to himself. I can't argue about the customer service though, he seems great. But at more than double the price, it's going to be a tough sell in Europe (which shows, just check out sales statistics of any stores in Europe, Marshall claims top 6 spots on Thomann and the first Friedman is like 18th place).
@@Tanax13in the USA Marshalls cost a ton and these are $200 cheaper than the 20w Marshalls. We get screwed because Marshall uses a distributor for their amps which makes them almost double the cost in the US.
@@nealbilyue8569 I know the situation in the US very well. Please note that I'm only talking about the situation in Europe. If you're in the US, you are probably better off buying Friedman, Ceriatone, Metropulous, or any of the myriad of Marshall clones you have over there. I am however in Europe so my original post still stands that Friedmans are for the most part overpriced in Europe compared to Marshalls.
@@EugeValovirta230V no doubt the only other amp you’ve demoed that I really liked that had that modded marshall thing was the bogner helios 100 but there’s still something about those old 800s that can’t be beat rocking the studio classic trying to get my self a 80s 2203 hopefully a 84’ ! Best to luck to you loving the content as always favorite guitar RU-vidr hands down your like a Swiss Army knife of all my favorite guitarist your skills are unmatched! Big time zakk fan as well we grew up in same town love the channel man rock on 🤘 💪
Tosi tyylikäs tuo Gibsonin standardi sulla 🙂👍 Ite tykkään enemmän just Marshallin rankasta äänestä, vähän liian pehmeä ääni omaan makuun tossa Friedmanissa. Ja on muuten 20W nupilla melkosen mukavasti hintaakin 😃
I bought that amp, and it sounds so good for what it is. Especially, with an LP...it get's a hot-rodded crunch tone that's awesome, and then it sounds amazing with single-coils when you roll the gain back. But, what I just learned is that, when adding a Hot Mod Evo V2 you demo'd some months back, it absolutely launches this amp into the stratosphere for classic hard-rock. I was stunned at what that little device was able to do. I was originally tightening up with a Buxom Boost (per Dave's recommendation) and no longer need it. The Hot Mod sounds even better...it's more focused, crunchy, and crisp. Thought I'd share for anyone looking at purchasing this amp. I hope some day to get an actual Twin Sister. It's funny given I went in to purchase the PT20 V2, and when playing both, this tone just sounded SO much better when sitting in front of both amps. Great video Euge!
Boss SD-1 Should have been named as amp-aid 'cause fix ANY amp puting it in a mean way 😅 This Friedman to my ears sounded WAY better with the sponge bob engaged 😅
