Johan, this is not only a killer demo of the amp but it’s also a master class on how to choose speakers for a great Marshall circuit. I heard great tones from the 60s, 70s, 80s and 90s. Killer demo that provides a lot of insight; a perfect showcase of the Twin Sister’s versatility.
Thanks for chugging at 7:50! No one plays amps like these, like that. I play metal and I like old school stuff because I don't like the high preamp gain. I like the sound of cranked old school amps like this. But this has more gain than a marshall jtm45....... Which is needed for me. One of the best amps I've ever heard, for every genre
I have a Mini Dirty Shirley and is AMAZING! My favorite amp I have owned and I have owned many. The best master volume control I have ever used and a nice fx loop. Sounds amazing set slightly dirty and responds extremely well to dynamic playing and rolling your volume up or down. Hit it with your favorite boost or light overdrive and its sonic bliss. I particularly enjoy it with my Strat. I had my Strat for years and never quite bonded with it... until I plugged it into the DS. It was an 'ah ha' moment. You always see demos with the gain up quite a bit but is really nice set cleanish/ hairy/ on the edge of break up or slightly dirty.
I had the mini and sold it to upgrade to the regular 40 watt shirley and it was to me... a downgrade. The mini is killer and has a superior breakup/distortion.
@@jmsamborski Funny you say that. A couple years ago I played a 40 watter for about 2 minutes and was floored but the price... I always had it in the back of my mind. A year or so later I was poking around the web and saw an amazing deal on the Mini. Never played one, just watched some RU-vid vids, closed my eyes and took the plunge. THE BEST impulse buy I have every made!
Excellent video Johan 💪 I just got the Twin Sister… how would you personally set it up for a classic cranked JTM45 type sound? I played with cranking the master plus less gain and different gainstructure switch settings but am not there yet… 🤔
Aloha Johan! I'm glad I found the Friedman's Twin Sisters video. I'm in a process of adding on to my house, so my son and family can move in. I hoping to have money left over to buy a Freidman or Suhr amp.
I have the Friedman BE100. It does all of this too. The clean channel also amazing. I get a great VH Brown sound, and everything from jtm45 to Plexi to JCM800 and beyond. I am blown away every time I plug into it. The quality is second to none too. I just wish I had some of those vintage cabs to go with it...
if youre keeping track, this demo sold another TS... just ran across this and it made so i couldnt put it off any longer - TS should be here in 3 days..... thanks for all you do for us, your channel has morphed into the most amazing resource for "the marshall" sound. - pro tip for others - call online gear retailers to get 10-15% off that they wont ever advertise on Friedmans amps when they are in stock
Been researching and watching the shit outta Twin Sister vids today, this one is by far the best and shows me that it absolutely has enough gain for me for my 80's to 90's back to 70's needs. Black sabbath to early Ozzy, Hendrix, Zep, Metallica, VH, pretty much sounds like it's covering all the bases with ease.
Creamy smooth liquid ice and fire just rolling out off your fingers and oozing from the speakers...Molten omfg..you've topped them all now...love story indeed....holy insanity...8:37 just drops into sweet soul gear.....
My god .....what are the amp settings at 10:10 , 11:10 ,11:25 ???? Or which cabs ? Sounds killer. Sound s like a fuzz or pedal up front but I know you there are none. Blisteringly savage beautiful tones!
a huge wall of amps in your living room is a safe sign you are setting the right priorities in life !! 👍🤟 stellar vintage sounds from a fantastic amp imo !!
Im going to sell my old super bass 76' and some olds jcm 800' ive been collecting, only to buy this amp. Thing is, ive always wanted an amp that can do both hendrix/dire straits/70s rock AND thrash metal. Nothing can do that which could replace an actuall jcm 800 AND a "plexi". But this is what ive been looking for all these years. Some questions Johan, do you think the price is worth it? Will cost me 3 vintage amps :) Also, can you play this amp with a strat? Please? :) Cheers
Been out of town and come back to a Friedman video! I recently got a Dirty Shirly Mini and LOVE that amp. It sounds great and I am happy you got to try this one!
Great playing and the amps sounded really good with high gain. Would love for you to do a video of the Pink Taco and/or the Orange Custom Shop 50. Keep well! Edited to indicate the reasons for the request. Much like Marshall send people over to your videos, I trust your setup and sound and consistency! Honest, real tones which sound great.
Flippin' Heck , Johan. You just made feel young again with that huge vibe and grit , and then back to old when playing Love Story's theme. I hate/love you for that, tho keep these great vids comin' :) And oh.. Friedman as usual , sounds incredible.
Awesome demo Johan......The visuals were totally fun. This version of Dirty Shirley sounds much tighter & more cutting that the standard DS. Capable of convincing heavier tones. Very cool. Thanks
nice demo, Johan, big fan of Friedman amps, used a few models at different sessions and studios but never owned one, I think I need one! Great work as always! Stay safe!
Awesome amp . I have a mini. It sounds sublime with my strat and an oversized zilla cab (2x12 greenbacks.) I love Tom morrello and this nails the punchy rage and audio slave riffs. It also sound brilliant with Hendrix style blues playing. I will never sell this amp. The 20w is not to loud for home use which should suit most people’s needs. Tip for other Shirley owners . The single best peddle I have found for this amp (and I have a few) is the Mxr micro amp + . I almost never turn it off .
Great amp! Got a question offtopic... can buy a Marshall 1931B 1x12 cab for cheap, do you know these cabs? Was hunting for a 1912 or 1933 but rare or expensive... Cheers mate! 👍🏻
The Shirley it's allegedly a mix of a JTM45 and a JCM800, and this one it's the most aggressive Shirley ever. Johan (awesome name, by the way), do you think the Twin Sister would be capable of early Metallica thrash tones?
Awesome range of tones. Billy Duffy from the Cult gave an apt description of Friedman amps, "they're like the best Marshall you ever 'eard." BE100 Deluxe with matching cab is ridiculous.
I splurged on the 20W Runt head and cab. Do it. Many other amps are headed out the door after picking up the Runt as it really checks a lot of boxes. Also, Friedman customer service is really superb.
Definitely save you money and get a Friedman and then you are finished. We've all spent tons of money on inexpensive amps and never got a Friedman. LOL go figure. How does that happen.
I believe a lot of people just like to shop. Everybody wants the next new thing. It takes a while to break away from that. Some people don't want to be one-and-done. I stopped buying stuff and said to myself maybe I should learn how to play this thing. LOL
Folks are selling their Dirty Shirley amps on Reverb now that this came out - I snatched one up! Occasionally you’ll find Runt 20w combos at Guitar Center for about $900-1000 too.
Again Johann thank you so much for doing this video it means a lot and I appreciate you doing it! I'd love to hear your favorite settings and opinion of the amp
Dude! How'd I miss this! Thank u brother!.... What are your thoughts? U think it can do good plexi tones? And lastly what structure setting did u like best and why? Which structure is most plexi? Again thank u so much! That first tone Id love to know the settings.....
@@cardbored_ well kind of..... It's a jtm45 power section with a jmp. Master 2204 preamp...... So some structures even have the. 68 cap the second gain stage like a plexi...... Really it's more of a 2204 then a jtm.....
Wow, I heard a lot of classic Les Paul/cranked vintage Marshall tones all through that session. I kept being reminded of sounds from famous songs that used that guitar and amp combo. Great playing too (as usual). Really amazing!. I assume that was all recorded at ear-splitting levels?.
This amp really needs an aggressive speaker to bring out something approaching old Marshall glory. You can hear how controlled and together the overdrive is but the great old Marshall’s had a wild edge to them. The riff would be defined and also sound out of control at the same time. Definitely a decent sounding amp though but I would take an old JTM45 or JTM50/JMP 50 every time. BUT....in a world where finding those old amps where you could afford and actually use them is unlikely, amps like this not a bad option.
Hi, Johan! Really killing amp. I never see it, but I will remember! Like the sound. "Love theme" is a music from "17 moments of spring" - old soviet film. But never trust the cinema! See you! Zigfrid
Yeah they are similar! This is the one from Stierlitz ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-f1ttNBN-TJo.html and this is Francis Lai (Love Story theme) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-53Nh3XxBiWg.html I’m not playing it correctly though. Cheers!
You might try tung sol 5881... bound to be better than sovtek. If that’s the 5881 WXT, that’s like one of the worst tubes I’ve ever heard in my life. Things can only get better. Incredible sound for such a bad tube. I think Fender uses and rebrands that tube because it’s the cheapest for OEM. Do you know what the plate voltage is?
@@paulcowart3174 I have it, put mullards in it amperex etc..... Trust me it sounds best with stock Tubes..... Dave designed to be that way....... I spent about 500 in tubes learning this
I have to know the settings for first clip, my usual setting is bright switch off structure all the way up, gain at 7 or 8, presence and treble at 6 mids at 8.5 and bass at 2..... Guit. Volume rolled back to 8. 5 for rythym 10 for Lead. Tone stays at 6.5 (its wired 50s style)
It is built to last a lifetime. Worth every penny if you are serious about tone. I have a bunch of effects, and since I got my Friedman, I never turn them on. It sounds so good on its own, I don't like to change the sound with effects. It just kills.
@@grahamt33 i have had it for 3 years. I play through it just about every day for an hour or so. I haven't even changed the tubes, although I probably should soon.
I’d like to take this opportunity to remind everyone that this is the best channel on RU-vid. Now: I hope boutique amps distribution cut you a nice check Johan. I mean to get your channel to endorse an amplifier… The best free marketing ever. Not fair that you don’t get paid. Plus to take advantage of Sweden’s robust socialism system and benefit financially in a capitalistic sense… Ha ha. And then Friedman for more or less making a different version of AD30 by Orange... are the channels slightly different or are they exactly the same? Switching between open and closed back… A DOD270 should be on everybody’s pedal board for this purpose. Awesome as ever.
Johan Segeborn You once lightly mentioned socialism in talking about Marshall amplifiers being at Swedish schools. Can’t find the comment. Must’ve been talking about the 1970s. I can’t believe Sweden did away with the wealth tax. I hope it doesn’t yield trust fund baby premiers/prime ministers/presidents like the United States has. Our biggest idiots ever were born loaded. Tragic.
Johan Segeborn no, it’s communist actually. Government have right to take anything they want from anyone they want, and people are considered guilty until proven innocent in the justice system, and kept locked up under isolation without bail even for minor crimes while police investigates as long as they feel like
Abu Bakr You must be talking about your country not Sweden. People typically don’t leave Sweden to move to the Islamic pigpens. It’s always the other way around. If you don’t like Sweden I t’s not too late to go back you know.
Great sounds! I've got at challenge for you, Johan: Can you nail Keith RIchards tone on Can't You Hear Me Knocking? People have tried on RU-vid, but no one has nailed it...
Thanks man! Sounds like a Fender Champ, but I the amps below comes pretty close. @@JohanSegeborn Thank you, I wil listen closely. Fender Champ is probably a good guess. By the way, I picked up a cheap Peavey Envoy 110 today. Would never have thought of buying it if not for your videoes. You're a great inspiration :-)
@@AuntAlnico4 Cool, sounds like a great setup :-) I guess I feel about Can't You Hear Me Knocking and Brown Sugar like Johan does about Cold Gin and Kiss Alive. For me, it is the ultimate rock guitar sound.
