Hayek was that rare scholar with skin in the game. He possessed a deep and broad knowledge of law, economics and social theory. He learned from Menger and Wieser and Von Mises and produced a body of work that stacks up well with the greatest thinkers of the 20th Century. His "On the Road to Serfdom" was prescient and is just as valuable today as it was in the mid 40's when it was published in the UK and the USA.

I'm about halfway through "The Road to Serfdom" right now. I was stunned by how much of it could've been written today. I find it hard to imagine anyone reading that book and STILL embracing Socialism.
