The reason your friend had less issue without glasses on the Crstyal was because the focal range of the lenses used put the displays at 1m away vs. 2m away for all other VR headsets. I suspect Pimax did this so that you can look at virtual objects up close without it blurring as much due to accommodation-convergence reflex phenomena which is the coupling of the eyes convergence level (i.e. degree of cross-eyed) and focus range setting of your eyes lens. But because the lens in a VR headset put the images shown on the displays at a fixed distance away, there is a mismatch of focal ranges when the stereoscopic image being shown is of something that is much closer (causing your eyes to automatically change focus to that near sighted distance instead of the typical fixed 2m focal distance on VR headsets).

I love my Pimax Crystal. I mainly fly DCS World, but the only thing that would make it complete is if they integrated mixed reality. I would love to be able to see my Winwing F18 Front Panel and MFDS while flying. I know they're capable of doing it because in the standalone mode, you have mixed reality when setting your boundaries for standing and moving games.

thats the problem for me. considering the g2 is now back to 800+ bucks and is older, its not that good for the market. what iam basically want, is an index 2. a complete pack with baystations and controller + hmd for around 1100 bucks and on current tech level.. so basically, what the index was in 2019. but it seems, that this is the exact market spot, thats dead. its eighter standalone midrange devices for 500 bucks or 1600+ buck enthusiast hardware

Your friend said he used a rift S and a quest 2, but said he has never seen screen door effect. That is odd. The Rift S actually had an amazing picture (better in my opinion than the index) but it definitely had screen door.

Hi guys, thanks for your video. I have a question, I play sim games on PC and I have a PS5 too, if I want a VR experience and some times play some PC VR games do you think is better chose a Pimax Crystal light or I can wait the compatibility of PSVR 2 on PC to have some experience also on PS 5? Thanks
@HamVR
@HamVR 2 месяца назад
I’d wait and see what the PC compatibility is like for PSVR2. If eye tracking also works with PC it could be worth the wait. That being said there is no firm date for PC support and there’s only really GT7 that I play on PSVR2. PS5 could do with more VR Sim games.

Dear Mam VR Luke ross VR modded games (Cyberpunk , Zero Horizon Dawn ect) is working with Pimax Crystal? Can you use open xr layer or just steam VR? And can you play with 4090 with affordable fps? Furthermore can you play also praydog Resident Evil VR mod and the crystal controllers are working ? Because my G2 working very well with these modded games in open xr mode and i can achive affordable fps with my rtx 4080 and it will be very important question because i would like to upgrade my G2 if these are workign with also Pimax Crystal. Thanks this answer in advance.

Hi, do you have an idea how can set up my 2070S with quest 2 plz in ACC and F1 23 ?
@Nago15
@Nago15 2 месяца назад
They are tricky because they are flickery as hell without AA, but only blurry AA is available in them. I have a stronger GPU so can't tell you exactly how to set them, but in ACC you want to use TAA or KTAA, medium or high depending on your resolution. Medium is a little bit flickery but looks great on higher resolution (on Quest3 Godlike resolution I use KTAA medium), high is a little bit blurry but has the best results if you use the temporal upsampling. TAA with temporal upsampling is very similar to DLSS but DLSS is not faster at all and maybe a little bit more blurry, and has ghosting unless you use DLSS profiler, so I like TAAU more. In F1 you want to use the TAA without sharpening and set dynamic resolution scaling on, then restart the game or otherwise a horrible sharpening effect remains on the image when you change the AA method.o

Hello mate I’m considering buying the light crystal I own the Q3 but mainly race on triple 1440 I’m looking for a good pic vr btw I run a good pc system. Thank
@HamVR
@HamVR 6 дней назад
The Crystal light is a good headset. It’s sharper in the centre (ideal for instrument reading in cockpits) and has no compression artefacts compared to the Quest 3 with link or VD. You will need a 4090 to get the most from the Crystal. The edge to edge clarity is better on the Quest 3 though, with virtually no chromatic aberrations compared to the Crystal Light that has them.

@@Tj930 if you regularly use the same VR headset I’d recommend getting a pair of prescription lens inserts for the headset. I got a pair for my Rift S which then lucky also fit my Quest 2. Makes a huge difference not having to try and adjust glasses under a headset. Only issue is if you share the headset as you’ll be forever cleaning them each time you clip and unclip them

um heres an idea to cut the price and weight down , why dosnt pimax go and sell the crystal without the AIO feature and controllers for those like me that will run it native to there PC that already have light houses and controllers , but as of now i will have to pay for hmd and add 200 to add the light house mask plate just use my light houses, that will be heavier and more expensive for things im not even going to use from it , how dumb is that
@HamVR
@HamVR 10 месяцев назад
Yep a light house tracked only version, without controllers and XR2 chip would be a lot cheaper to make and be a suitable upgrade for Vive and Index owners. I pressume Pimax wanted inside out tracking because that's the the way the industry is going to attract new uses without existing kit.
@lexusman83
@lexusman83 10 месяцев назад
@@HamVR yeh I see that but really there should be an option why she is pc owners with light houses pay for the extra weight when we’re not gonna use it , it’s dumb
@madigorfkgoogle9349
@madigorfkgoogle9349 10 месяцев назад
well, we dont know exactly how the Crystal is working, there is a good chance that the XR2 chip is used for image post processing as upscaling and sharpening for example, same as Varjo Aero is doing. And since the chip is already there, they can use it for stand alone feature as well... I dont think that the crystal has to be that expensive, I think that PiMAX saw that people are willing to pay the "ransom" for the Aero, so why not earn more. It is a free market, if you are willing to pay what they ask, do it, otherwise vote with your wallet and the price will come down...

what the vr market is missing (at least for me) is an index 2 or something of that sort, because right now, the market serves only 2 groups: standalone lowrange/midrange devices or enthusiast setups for 1600+ bucks. theres nothing like an index 2.0 pack in that pricerange with current state of the art tech around anymore. sure you can buy 1000 buck setups but they are last gen and prices havent droped much from release or are even rising again, because they are discontinued. and the g2 for 400 dollars? damn its around twice that in germany and only leftover stock. also when i comes to roomscale vr, i heard the g2 has a lot of tracking issues. vr is eighter or if you dont have any hardware yet and iam not the guy, that buys stuff twice, because he starts little to try and then upgrade. if i get vr, i will treat it like an monitor: get a decent on youre happy with and keep for 6 years without the need to upgrade
@HamVR
@HamVR 8 месяцев назад
After now trying the Quest 3, I would rate that higher than the G2 due the large FOV, decent resolution and large sweet spec pancake lens with low glare. It's doesn't have display port, but all the other qualities make up for it and price is pretty reasonable.
@dharkbizkit
@dharkbizkit 8 месяцев назад
hows the screendoor effect for you? when it comes to the quest 3, its like 50% say its on par with the g2 so basically not there, while the other 50% say SDE is worse then on quest 2 because the lenses are so clear and sharp that you can spot it so easy, that its just 1 or 2 numbers better then the index@@HamVR
@nuckerball1259
@nuckerball1259 8 месяцев назад
exactly this. we are still waiting for the next generation of midrage dedicated pcvr headsets. We need something with the hardware and features of a quest 3 but with display port etc. Its very frustrating that the pcvr space has gained so little traction. If the quest 3 just had a display port......
@dathyr1

Well, I wouldn't buy either one of them. I am waiting for the Crystal Light VR headsets to hit the market. Same optics as the regular Crystal minus the battery, eye tracking, and if I get the lower priced unit, less that auto dimming. Price will be 699.00 dollars - reasonable price range for me, not this 1700 dollars for the regular Crystal. Just waiting for the reviews to come out on the released products coming very soon. Take care.

@zackeryhardy9504
@zackeryhardy9504 9 месяцев назад
I am running the pimax crystal with my rx 6800 xt rig which is essentially just a red 3080 and it works very well. I have decrease the resolution a small amount of course, but I don't notice any change in clarity. I would say the image quality in the pimax is exactly the same as gaming on my 32" 1080p monitor. Its not at 2k, but its to the point where I can see detail on distant objects without issue and the screen door is completely gone. I have owned an index and a reverb G2 previously. On the reverb G2 the screen door effect was not very noticable, but it was still there. it was like playing in 720p where the index was like playing between 720 and 480. Closer to 720 than 480. It would be like playing on a monitor at 600 which obviously doesn't exist. The pimax has 0 screen door effect. Even trying to see the individual pixels, I just cannot see it. Its not 2k monitor visuals yet, but it is 1080p monitor visuals which is pretty much rock solid. I mean its to the point where going further really will get you less and less benefits. For example I can see the difference between 2k and 1080p, but the difference is so small that I find that it just isn't worth it as 1080p is really the point where its good enough. 4k and 2k are indistinguishable on a 32" computer monitor on my desk. Now obviously you go up to a 70" televisions screen size or a full movie scree and you will start to see difference, but not at PC monitor sized displays. And a 10080p PC monitor is about how clear the crystal is. And the higher resolution displays really do make a difference. Downscaling doesn't really do the same thing as changing going to a lower resolution screen. Because you don't see the individual pixels, its more of the effect of turning your settings down in a game. And you don't need to turn it down to the point where you see any pixelation. Its just not as sharp. But much much sharper than anything else since the sharpness isn't limited by your panels.

hmm interesting comfort wise i own all of them except pimax and find index still the most comfy and most frustration free but yes resolution is a bit dated as its the oldest one out of the bunch.
