love this ! my hot take on intercultural marriages: I have been with my latino fiancé for 2 years, it takes both parties willing to be understanding and surrender what they know of their cultural background, and not judging the baseline differences. Both parties need to adapt to the other in grace, submit the process to God, and actively seek to understand. I say intercultural relationships really only work when you both are walking in God's purpose and mission for your life, and are willing to be humbled multiple times ! I would argue that Gerson and I have better communication than couples of the same first language because we naturally clarify the differences, intenses, and tones of words, whereas in a relationship fo the same culture one would assume things more easily.
If one is 74 and the other is 69 both want to leave money or assests to their children and both tend to be very generous people, one has more to lose than the other. It can be tricky. Some older people just live in sin because of finances. So sad.
I am all for a prenup. Most do not go into marriage with the indent to get divorced, and yet it happens all the time. As someone who has seen family members get divorced because the partner becomes a bad alcoholic, it is so important to have asset protection, and make sure that you as a partner are getting enough money or assets in the event of a divorce. Like for example, let’s say it’s if get divorced within a 10 year time frame they don’t get any land acreage that you might have. But if divorce happens later maybe they get 1/4 acre to build on, sell, or put something on that they could rent out if they don’t want to live there. And then a certain amount of money. There should be stipulations for cheating, and so on, as well as defining what cheating means in that marriage to those in it. We have family land that all my immediate family is on. So say I get married and then later divorced, there are stipulations already in place that they can’t have any of that land. I would think it would be different with just one person. Regardless, if you end up being the victim of a bad marriage where it isn’t your fault you could be screwed without proper protection and have to start with little later in life
No cheating . Adultery is a sin that God doesn’t look at and say we are supposed to stay . He gives us the choice to leave when it’s adultery. Jesus says the is no way around it you can divorce if adultery is committed. If someone in the covenant lied down with another they are now one as well . Proverbs 6:32 , Hebrews 13:4 , Leviticus 20:10 , Matthew 5:27 -28 . These are of importance !
“How do you approach your girlfriend about modesty?” You don’t. You have a right to YOUR OWN preference when it comes to clothing style. If you don’t want to date someone because of how they wear their clothing, that’s your right. But don’t tell a grown adult what they themselves should wear. 😒
