In my hometown Nis, in Serbia, they were stationed. Almost all of my childhood i was watching them flying low above our home. Love them. Now only one still remains in the Serbian air force and soon will also be retired. CASA C295's are in use now.
Patrick noisy but a sweet to the ear and so smooth to the hearing, being from Russia says something alright. Hope you are having a great weekend our Canada Day weekend is rainy so far. Catch you on the next video.
we had amazing traffic the last two weeks , rare nowadays , mainly due to car parts transports for the Volvo factory at Gent , invasion of AN 12 , AN 26 , ATR , and some smaller designs as the lovely Metroliner , lately te weather conditions are very positive as well , sun , but too hot 😀
Very cool plane and I love that sound. The pilot had his window open till about taxi time. Amazing that propellers can spin that fast. I was curious so I looked this up: I thought it might be an APU. A turbojet engine in the starboard nacelle for use as an auxiliary power unit and also for extra take-off thrust Thank You
you hit the nail on the head , Tim , this design is based on the AN 24 that first flew in 1960 , true vintage stuff , sure the noisiest APU ever in this category, a recording can even not give full justice to the real thing 😁 , however the noisiest APU must be the ANTONOV 22 giant transport , during start up as well , the ground is trembling under or feet , i witnessed it several times , sadly this is no longer possible , the last commercial 22 was destroyed at Gostomel recently 😥, Oleg Antonov was a genius in his field , transport aircraft , i just like all Antonovs ! , original sounds
You beat me to comment on additional thrust from the APU when needed. Yes correct on it being in the rear of the stbd nacelle, bloody things 🤣🤣 Used to get loads of noise complaints from the locals, especially at 04:00 on a cold and frosty morning
@@jamespowney5643 i imagine the smoky start up and flames , great stuff as well, i remember the Carvairs at Ostend , apron below the engines BLACK😄 , for sreeching sounds classic jets rule 😉
Great video Patrick! I love the Ivchenko AI24 and 20. They seem quite loud for a turboprop compared to western props. I’ve never seen one in person, but based on videos. They also seem to produce a lot of jet noise when from behind. Is this also more than western turboprops or just how the video captures it? Regards Alex
that's correct , Soviet engines have a different and noisier sound , all hell breaks loose in this case as well , love the noise= music to my ears !😄 , noise champion for turboprops in the West : Vickers Viscount RR Dart😉 , thanks for your appreciation ,Alex , greetz
