It’s a hard situation. Some parts of it I’m like, “Yeah. He’s got a point. I've been "friend zoned". Multiple times. I didn't resent them for it because I actually liked them as individuals. Being upset because they didn't reciprocate your feelings is a total asshole move. Feeling sad and down for awhile? That's fine. Being a shithead to the other person and/or trying to wheedle them into a relationship? That's not okay. Just because you developed feelings for them doesn't mean they need to develop feelings for you.

This is actually very interesting to me from a sociological standpoint! It's a difference between what we in America (and probably other countries but this is the only one I feel qualified to speak about) perceive as "friendship" and what it's supposed to entail. On average, women have a wider support network because they are told it's okay to share your emotions and deeper stuff with their friends, while men, on average, rely on their partner for emotional support since it's been engrained in our society that it isn't okay for men to cry and show much emotion (Which is wrong, your emotions are valid and you should feel safe to express them regardless of gender). Therefore, when a woman shares her emotions with and is close to a guy, the conflict appears. To the woman this is a perfectly natural platonic thing you do with friends, but the man sees this as something only done with romantic partners. She isn't intentionally leading him on, but since he sees it as pretty blatant flirting and couple stuff, he feels like she's leading him on. So the guy lashes out in confusion and betrayal, and the lady feels that her friend only saw her as a romantic interest. The friendzone is a myth. It's just a miscommunication that happens so frequently that it is normalized in our society. Want to know how to avoid this? Make sure your guy friends have many different people they can go to for emotional support, and let your lady friends know how much you value them as a friend. Let your nonbinary friends know their gender identity is valid too, just to make sure no one is being left out. Being nice to someone does not mean they owe you anything. You do not owe anyone something if they are nice to you. It's okay if you're not okay. Drink water, eat food, stay safe. Stop doomscrolling; the world will still be here later. Trust me, you'll know if it isn't. You are valid and you are loved.

I think that this is actually able to show how different boy and girl friendships are. The affection line is at two totally different points. That’s what makes them think they are being nice/getting strung along.

My take on how to resolve a situation like this: You have to set up barriers, and respect those barriers. Let the other person make it clear that they do not reciprocate your feelings and would prefer you not to pursue them. Then make it clear that you're still (and likely will be for a while) having feelings for the person and would rather not discuss their other relationships as it would hurt you. Respect each other's decisions, and then figure out whether you can remain friends or if it would cause too much pain. It's complicated, and it's difficult, and every case will be different, but communication is key even in relationships you don't want. Cami told Caleb no, but her talking about other relationships with him made Caleb think he still had a chance. So both were annoyed and hurt, because they didn't see things the way the other did. If you really don't want to talk to someone about a certain subject, just say that. Don't suffer through it in the name of "being a good friend" or "but maybe they'll finally love me." You don't have to help your friends at the cost of hurting yourself. I know that might seem cruel, but it's a good way to avoid an unhealthy relationship like the one in the video. But that's just what I think.

Honestly, this is better than the original version. The response verse really makes the song get more nuanced. Clearly it sucks to be friendzoned, but it's not as simple as the Zoner being cruel or the Lovestruck being ignorant. The Z most likely appreciated the LS's friendship so much that they didn't think about the possibility of them catching feelings, and instead just liked them for being a good friend. And on the other side of the situation, the LS might have seen the Z's liking to them as a sign of love, at least to some extent, and as such kept building that idea in their mind over time. There's no hero or villain in a situation like this, just a case of misunderstanding and mixed signals. I think the one "friendzoning" is fine to do so, and that the lovestruck should instead of getting desperate or angry, instead start appreciating the friendship more. I mean, there are plenty of benefits that come with having a friend of the sex you're interested in; benefits lovers can't provide. Anyway, that's all I could think of saying at the moment. I'd love to have conversations with anyone who'd like to give their opinon or argue my view.

Loved this. Honestly, if you can't respect a friend's desire to stay just friends, you don't respect their intelligence or their agency enough to deserve a relationship with them. It's not for you to decide if they're making a mistake by saying no. They made their choice and you have to respect it. If the guy in the video had made the choice to stop clinging to his feelings "just in case," he'd have been over it in a day. The Friendzone isn't a bad thing.
