7:38 I think it is due to their mana detection. Since they are powerful mages, they have a longer range in mana detection. Just imagine mana detection like some sort of mage version of Radar. They probably felt in their mana detection that Lugner suddenly disappeared in their mana detection, which they assumed immediately that he died.

They probably felt in their mana detection that there is a sudden loss of huge mana, which they assumed as someone dying.

4:16 “I don’t know what ‘mana’ is.” Mana is spiritual or magical energy. In Japanese, what they are saying is “ma-ryoku” 魔力 which directly translates to “magical power.” In video games, they often list the magical energy gauge as ‘MP’ (magic power). 17:19 “Freezing cold… that’s Frieren, bro.” Yes, definitely. If you remember, “Frieren” means “freezing” in German.

Mana is what mages use to power their spells in this world. More mana you have the more spells you can cast and the more power you can put into them. Remeber the fight against Qual though. Defensive magic uses a lot of mana so only blocking at the spot and instance of impact is advised or you may run out of mana. A fight between mages is a bit of a game of magenging your mana. Throw a ton of spells pr really strong ones and your opponent blocks efficiently, you and up dead. But you also might end up overwhelming your opponent before that. Fern tricked Lugner when he said he'd fight defensively and wait till she exhausted her mana. The problem with that was is he assumed she had much less mana then she really did and by the time he realized his mistake he was already on the back foot. Trying to move or retaliate at that point and Fern would have slipped a spell past his defense. That's why he called for help from Linnie. As for how much mana you have, you're born with a certain amount, then gain more by training. Why elves and Demons have a lot more mana than humans is simply because they live longer. Humans have been keeping up by creating new spells and techniques each generation. Not the best analogy but think less ammunition but creating a much better gun.
