Everyone always talks about Vegeta's character development but no one ever talks about the Android twins. Although neither of them were really evil, still 17 turned from an arrogant and condescending jerk to a polite and reserved gentleman, and 18 turned from a bit of a cold and also slightly arrogant person to a lighthearted and playful young woman with a daughter of her own
That's not character development, though. We see none of what changed 17. One minute he's trying to kill Piccolo in an attempt to find and kill Goku, then next we see him he's a park ranger and has a family. They simply changed his character to fit the story. Vegeta's character changed BECAUSE of the story, and did so gradually, over 200+ episodes.
@@westy1637 you have a very good point. And to be fair to poor 17 he was “dead” technically for like forever lol until he was mentioned I forgot he was even confirmed alive in DBZ lol!
@@destinitaylor4360 when they revived all the people Cell killed, I'm pretty sure Piccolo and Krillin said that 17 was alive again too. Just never showed him or mentioned him until the spirit bomb to kill Buu was made
Bruh when this was still airing every week me and my friends would watch together. The hype was insane we were shouting, cheering, imitating characters, and just having a blast.
I remember when watching this, my jaw hit the floor when 17 stood up. Everyone knew they were trying to make us forget about Frieza by not including him in many of the episodes where Jiren and Goku fought. But NOBODY saw it coming when 17 stood up
Dude, SAME. I was genuinely stunned when 17 first appeared, since the show really went all the way in trying to convince us he was dead (even the Grand Priest assumed he died). I remember watching everyone else's reaction and reviews after that, and they all had the same reaction, lol. Like you said, everyone could see that they were trying to make us forget about Frieza (to the point where people were actively anticipating the moment he'd reappear), so seeing 17 show in the same moment made for an excellent secondary swerve.
@@DLxxx they knew what they were doing. I binged it recently and already knew Jiren got beat by Frieza and Goku from FighterZ dramatic finish. I’m very glad 17 wasn’t included in that or I would’ve been anticipating him the whole time. They should add 17 in future games. I was just thinking how crazy it was that those three were working together lol. They’re were so many other group combos, too. Super really knew what they were doing. I hate it took me almost a decade to finally get to it, but I’m also not mad since the game is right around the corner, and everything is still fresh. I wonder it’s going to organize the characters, though. Goku and Vegeta should be able to use one character model since they can go from any form to the next. Frieza’s transformations in previous games would have him go up and not down. But he should be able to do that, now. F. Trunks is probably the most tricky between Z and S (maybe GT and late Z too)… But hopefully, they came up with a solid solution since I sure there’s going to be a lack of characters. I mean, Hercule’s in there. I want to see Bulma (in like a robot suit) and Chichi. Gotta get them in the mix.
I knew he was alive from the beginning and he was going to show up to help Goku. They never showed his dead body or anything so I knew he would return.
@@busymikehis cause of death was self destruction, so there wouldnt be a body or anything to show. u used the wrong formula, but got the right answer anyway
@@Dunkskins Same. It's easy to forget, but when 17 showed back up, literally EVERYONE was caught off guard and loved the twist, because it completely threw a wrench in how we all thought the tournament was going to end. My jaw never dropped so low 😆
yeah i know, it was a really high point in the anime, ruined by the fact that his eyes are drawn in a different way, one is small and the other is big.
For some reason, Freeza’s voice changing to how gravely and deep it was showed how serious he was taking this threat, idk it just seemed so interesting to me
Not really.. 17 was persuaded to be a villain. Unbeknownst to him and 18, they were made solely to serve as food for Cell. And honestly, as much as people hate seeing Frieza turning sides, I think it makes sense for him to become a good guy. How many times does Goku need to defeat Frieza? It was time for the author to throw the gloves and change course.
before the tournament starts, Jiren does not intend to participate and does not want to destroy the other universe. but Toppo offers Jiren to take Super Dragon Ball. the cause of Jiren participating in the tournament.
I always find it interesting when they give 17 an aura compared to all the times he doesn't have one throughout the series. I assumed they were linked to Ki, which Androids don't have as a power source. He also had that black aura when fusing with the other 17 I believe.
Android is a mistranslation. Both 17 and 18 are cyborgs, not androids since they were born human and had parts of them replaced with technology. Literal androids are not humans, but instead machines that are built to replicate humans. That's why it would make sense that they have auras as living organisms. 18 also has a biological child with Krillin which demonstrates the point.
I feel like it’s a mistake they kinda just stuck with unless they got more and more human. All of Z they had no au ra at all. Coulda just forgot that though
This scene really says alot about Jiren, he could've shot that blast at Goku straight in his face and probably would've been eliminated him if he did it that way too but he chose to shoot the ground instead.
People don't give Frieza enough credit about his intelligence level. He can be prideful and arrogant, but he's not a fool. He knows when he is in over his head and learned that lesson when he got killed by Goku on Namek. Besides, Goku promised that he'd revive Frieza so he has a vested interest in Goku's victory against a monster that Frieza knows he can't defeat.
Proud warrior, Son Goku. It is not my wish that our showdown end this way. But, even though you will cease to be, you shall live on forever in my memories. Farewell.
If you had told me during the first airing of the Android Saga that in the future a video title like this would exist, I would not believe it. Goku's greatest power has always been turning his most dangerous enemies into friends.
I cried too. Its literally a dream to see freiza and 17 together. Thats some next level fantasy shit that I would have never thought could happen growing up as a dbz stan
With 17 & 18 being apart of the Z-Fighters having Cell come back the same way as Frieza would be interesting if done right he would have a bone to pick with 17 , 18 & Future Trunks.
I like the ending with 17's wish, but I would have loved to see Jiren actually win and then him make the wish to restore all universes despite his initial different wish, but I get that they wanted to show that trust and cooperation prevail oven Jiren's self-centered power.
17 and 18 have infinite energy and stamina thanks to their genetically modified cells and the perpetual energy reactor internalized in their bodies. That being said, if they don't tire out they can still sustain physical damage when fighting strong opponents. That's what is happening to 17 at the end of the Tournament of Power. He's not tired but hurting a bit.
Android's may have unlimited stamina, but they don't produce the same kind of ki as normal organic beings like Goku (based more in science than pure life engery). This is the reason they can't be sensed either. When he donated energy to the spirit bomb, he was only able to do that because that move required genki, as opposed to just regular ki.
The reason for this choice is really down-to-earth: it's because Freeza is easier to draw an animate than Cell. I don't remember who it was from TOEI who said that all the spots on Cell's body were just a nightmare.
17 and 18 are not "androids", that's a misnomer. They are genetically modified human beings who were restructured at the cellular level and enhanced almost entirely with bio-organic components (i.e genetically modified human cells) and very few tiny cybernetic implants. So yeah, they are "natural life forms". They are human beings made of flesh and blood with hardly any machinery in their bodies, and that's been an official fact since their very first appearance in 1991.
Is Jiren seriously hesitate to end Goku in such a way because its not "honorable" or some shit? Bro, your entire life, everyone's entire life, your... Fucking... Universe is on the line here! Knock him off! Christ.
17 and 18 are still mostly human, so it only makes sense that they can still emit a ki like every single living creature. The only difference is that their ki is artificial, seeing as it's coming from their genetically modified human cells and their perpetual energy reactor. That's why it's also undetectable.
