I knew that my washer/dryer was tearing up my clothes!! I've had the unit for 6 years now and I think it started about 2 1/2 years ago. The tears were small and not too often nor any too many articles of clothing. I thought I was going crazy especially since my husband thought it was how I was leaning against the counter and since it was only happening to my clothes!!! I'm so relieved to see that others have experienced a similar problem. I'm not happy about it, but now I know I"m not alone. I've had it and I'm buying a new washer/dryer asap.
Our same-brand washer has been shredding our clothes too and not just with tiny holes but with giant, gaping shredded holes that look like a dogfight happened. We've been trying to determine whether it was a problem on the drum or if clothes were getting trapped in the rubber door seal. After watching this, I'll go examine the drum again to see if there are holes not punched out like in yours. We purchased our set in September 2008 as well!
Thank you for this video. I have the same problem with small holes in my clothing. Plus the problem with mold: mold builds up around the rubber gasket that acts as a door seal and also mold builds up in the discharge piping. Both cases are because the warm soapy (and dirty) wash water is not completely discharged/drained. Hence the problem Electrolux/Frigidaire is having with mold. I will never buy from Electrolux/Frigidaire, ever again.
Thank you for posting this! We have the same washer and dryer and all of our clothes look the same way, including three different sized wardrobes of brand new baby clothes (that I could otherwise have resold)!!! After reading the update I believe that our dryer also is the culprit for all of the rips. I realized after reading this that EVERY item that I regularly hang dry does not have a rip while nearly every item that I dry in the dryer has a rip. How frustrating! I will never buy Frigidaire!!
wow. this is surprising. I bought my electrolux front loading washer/dryer set in Nov. of 2008. 8 years later it's still working great. In fact, tomorrow I'm having a new set delivered and giving my current sent to a relative who can use it. Can't believe all the problems you're having with the punch out problems on the drum holes.
Thanks for posting this video. I would never buy again from Frigidaire. I had a Frigidaire refrigerator that broke while under warranty and the company did nothing to fix it. They gave me the run around for months until the warranty ran out. Then I was told my warranty was expired and there was nothing they could do. Their service is horrible and their products are not reliable many being defective like your washer and my refrigerator.
I bought my Frigidaire front loading machine two years ago and have had numerous holes in good clothing that I couldn't explain. After being tired of darning holes and throwing away new clothing. I took a nylon and rubbed the inside of the of the drum there is a catch that is most likely causing this. The bur isn't as predominate as what he shows in this video. My warranty book on page 25 states the wash tub is covered thru the functional life of product. With this being said on an appliance that should have been recalled they should cover it for the lifetime of the product This makes me sick.I thought Frigidaire was a company that clams to stand behind their product... Buyer beware.
I didn't know how my clothes where getting holes but now I know. I also had a problem with the washer and the washer eats socks and clogs like crazy we have to take it apart at least once a month to get the stupid this to work again. I will never buy a washer from them again and I will never buy a front load washer.
Thank you I found this video very helpful on account my laundry is coming out the same way. However I am still investigating different possibilities it could be something else
I had the same issue model EIFLS60JIW. Mine is worse because the clothes catch in the door rubber seal and when the washer spins it totally rips the clothes apart. The result is clothes with edges completely torn, as if a dog got in a tug of war with the clothing. Electrolux said they had never heard of this issue but were willing to work with us when we sent photos of clothes and pieces of it stuck in the bottom of the door. The first washer this happened with we were out of warranty and they gave us 75% off the purchase of the same model. Now, 6 months later, SAME ISSUE with our NEW EIFLS60JIW which is still under warranty. Service rep is coming out next week, next step will be a demand letter taking Electrolux to small claims for the cost of all the clothing we have lost - in the thousands of dollars of damage, and the cost of replacing a matching washer and dryer with a reputable manufacturer. Electrolux needs to wake up as clearly they have design flaws they are doing their best to hide. This model should be recalled unless they intended their washer to also act as a garbage disposal.
We too had the same problem with our Fridgedaire front loader washer shredding clothes also, so very, very frustrating. We have had numerous service calls and changed the "bellows" and still ripped, shredded clothing. Won't buy this brand again.
I am sure my Frigidaire front load washing machine is shredding our clothes. I know it is not the dryer because they are coming out of the washer this way. I give up! I am buying a top loader (different brand) today because the latest victims of this washer were both my children's team swimsuits. Neither has been worn more than five times, and that's $100 down the drain. At this rate a new washer is cheaper.
I thought I was going crazy! I'd put things into the washer - like an expensive, new beach towel & when it comes out of the dryer it's all torn! This explains the problem! Geezzzzz!! I'm gonna sell this junk & buy a better one!!! NO MORE FRIGIDAIRE!!!
I have a top loading Maytag washer that constantly shreds my clothes. I assumed that it was the high power revolutions and teeny amount of water that was causing that; now I'm going to check to see if it's a similar problem to yours. I literally have no clothes that don't have little poke holes & even large holes in them, even when I use the hand wash cycle. I really wish that I had gotten my old traditional washer fixed instead of buying a new one. I don't think that they've perfected the art of extremely fast revolutions in a thimble full of water.
So after making this video, I found it was the dryer. I still was not impressed with the initial build quality of this washer. So I left the video up. But in my case it was the felt seal around the dryer drum that wore down creating a gap that would catch and tear the clothes while the dryer spun
I am sure it doesn't matter to you anymore, but Frigidaire has changed their dryer design now and no longer has the same type of dryer that clothing catches and gets places pinched out of them. The new dryers are also larger in capacity too.
Yep, that original design goes back to the mid 60's when Westinghouse started making top load washers and that style of dryer. White Westinghouse is who bought Frigidaire and started making them the same as their machines that they were already making. Later on to cut costs they cheapened the dryer drum guides in front, which wear out very quickly with much use and start pinching clothes unfortunately. Frigidaire used to be General Motors owned and made some very good appliances, but not so much after White Westinghouse bought them. They are pretty much the bottom of the heap in the appliance world now.
OMG! You must have been real pissed! I know I would be livid!! 😡😠 Thank you so much for sharing! Now I would be really very careful with washers! Before your video, I used to think that washers like yours are the best!! 😵😵 I love my favourite white shirts and shorts and would die if anything happens to them.
We have had a TON of clothes torn to shreds, but it happens very sporadically so I didn't think too much of it. Just wondered how the hell it happened. Did the dog shred it? Did something happen in the wash? Did the kids tear the hell out of it? Admittedly I wondered if my machines were the culprit too, but it looks as though I need to have a closer look now. Thanks for the post. BTW, I am with you,,, Bye bye Frigidaire
I have the same washer and I got the same thing with my clothes my favorite shirt and my favorite pants are shredded they weren’t special fabric or anything
Sorry to hear that. It turned out to be the dryer. I replaced the felt seal in the dryer, and it stopped the shredded clothes. It's been good for over 7 years now
what should be the gap between those? we have a LG xL type 17kgs front loading hybrid washing machine. we have exactly same sized multiple holes on older tshirts.
I have the exact same problem. I bought mine in 2012 and 2016 it is destroying my clothes. Also, 1 out of every 5 loads does not spin dry. I think it takes so long to balance the load that it exceeds the time that the dryer is supposed to spin. I've taken to buying one of those mop ringers to put towels in so they will be lighter and the washer will be able to spin clothes dry. Never again...
Unfortunately I have experienced the shredding of clothing from my 2008 model as well. I have laughed hyseterically over the damages this machine has done to our clothing. Even though it is definately not funny I have to laugh for ever wanting to own these. I spent $2000 for my dream frigidaire frontload washer and dryer also in black and it was a nightmare since the day of the delivery. I have never had any satisfaction even when it was still under warranty. I have had to make so many repairs!
Not sure why a service guy wouldn't have pointed out the fact that if the washer drum had a manufacturing defect that it would have ripped your clothes from day one. It is simple logic
I would not recommend a Dremel tool. Do you really want metal shavings falling through the drum holes to get sucked into the water pump on your next wash cycle and cause failure or excessive wear? If you want to disassemble and take the drum out, then maybe. But that metal is incredibly strong. You'd have to grind for a good while. But as I posted in a comment. I later found it was the dryer not the washer
A simple solution to your problem can be to use a drill machine with a broad mouth and short bit, not to drill too deep, as you could punture the rubber gasket, so you need to be gentle and patient, just enough to sand away the extra steel chip. If my tip helps you, you can donate 10 dollars for my creative thinking :). You can pay my visa credit card outstanding amount with your donation.
Thank you for showing this problem! I have the same problem with my dryer too. The washer is okay on the holes... I can see your problem with the washer not having the holes punch out in the same pattern.... For sure their problem.... www.appliancepartspros.com/frigidaire-seal-134440200-ap3777104.html Mod# LGQ2152EE MIND IS A 2009 They have a video on how to replace the upper felt.... if your into it order the lower felt too and do them both at the same time.... Upper one causes ripping of the clothes and the lower one more time to dry.... thank again for the video!!!!
I felt around the entire drum very thoroughly and I couldn't find a rough spot. Nothing else is ripped just my sheets. very bizarre. And my washer is just a year old.
@@bjmgraphics617 Check your dryer. My ripping turned out to be caused by the dryer - not the washer actually. (I originally thought it was the washer but no). The dryer was ripping the clothes because the felt seal that holds up the plastic dryer drum in place wore down. The place where the gap is shows up between the plastic dryer drum and the metal housing of the dryer. I don't recall which direction my dryer spins, but if you're looking at the opening of the dryer and image the circle to be the face of a clock, the gap will either be at 10 o clock (if the dryer spins counter clockwise) or 2 o clock (if the dryer spins clockwise). What happens is the clothes catch in that gap while the rest of the garment keeps on spinning in the dryer. Eventually the garment pulls free and rips in the process. You have to replace the felt seal that goes around the dryer drum to fix it. I replaced my seal about 4-5 years ago and so far all is well. I also for the most part stopped leaving clothes in the dryer over night (which would compress the felt seal) and also make sure not to overload the drum with too heavy a load so as to not excessively wear the felt seal.
This is why you never buy a washer or dryer from a brand who makes good refrigerators. I think that if a brand makes refrigerators shouldn't ever make washer and dryers. Stay away from brands that make other appliances that they are not known for.
There are 1000's of complaints on line re:front loaders & HE machines, all seem to be junk regardless of the brand, complaints of ripped clothing, mold, vibrations, leaks, low water levels, etc.& now get this.........explosions! Best reviews w/o complaints are for Speed Queen top loaders. Check reviews for brands on consumeraffairs(dot)com, the complaints are endless & horrendous!
Why do the COMMERCIAL front loaders actually fill with water you can SEE...notice they have water-tight SEALS not floppy boots, since the water goes up past the glass of the door. Consumer ones are almost like damp washing. It can't be good for cloth?
I agree frigidaire sucks I believe that specific model was made in china. Most front loader made for teh US sucks, as USA is a disposable society. I was born in Italy, and over there there aren t these problem. I own 2 front loader for convenience. Whirlpool 24 inc Mod lhw0050 for 8 years not a single problem. I also, have a full size GE gfwh 2400 for 2 years. Good wash performance, but poor rinse.
You right i got the same issue the company they make this washer dumb company i will never buy this grand name electrolux washer anymore in my life and i will let all my kids and my friends know don't ever buy electrolux washer machine who is stupid design this washer machine
