Frill for Tanner the Triceratops | Crochet Tutorial

PLEASE READ THIS:
*** NOTE: Be sure to complete the entire repeat. The repeat both starts and ends with 2SC. Therefore, when working the full sequence of stitches, followed by the same sequence of stitches, the row will look something like this like this:
(2SC, 1SC, 1SC, 1SC, 2SC), (2SC, 1SC, 1SC, 1SC, 2SC), (2SC, 1 SC, 1 SC, 1SC, 2 SC), and so on.
*** NOTE: The foundation single crochet stitch is preferred; however, you could alternatively replace R1 with: Ch 31, SC in second ch from hook and each ch to end. Nicole, you have not responded to those having an issue. I have crocheted for a long time and am not coming up with the 42 it's in the 2nd row and more than 6 increases.

Ok Ladies, I figured it out. Do an increase in the first stitch then 1 scarf in the next 3 sts. Do an increase in the next two sts so (back to back) then 1 sc in the next 3 sts. You will end with an increase and have 42 sts. You will not get the curvature if you only do an inc then 1sc in the next 3 sts. Nor will you come up with the correct count.

It took me three tries to realize that the patterns started with an increase and ended with an increase. So two increases in a row!!! She explains it so clearly, but I didn't read it! Important to read her ***NOTE!!!

i finally got the frill understood and made only to realise that the two colours I'm using are slightly different wools so the front is a bit smaller than the back.. I'm going to push forward and sew them together and hope for an nice "aesthetic" look.........😅 finished is better than perfect!!!

Hi! Im so confused on round 2. I've triple counted my foundation row (definitely 30) and unwound and redone round 2 multiple times, but i keep ending up with only 37 stitches and an extra unworked stitch of the foundation row at the end. im an experienced crocheter and good at following patterns so I'm really unsure where I'm going wrong here!

Hi Kayla, it sounds like you aren't doing the entire repeat. It will look like this: (2,1,1,1,2)(2,1,1,1,2)(2,1,1,1,2)(2,1,1,1,2)(2,1,1,1,2)(2,1,1,1,2). Hope that helps!

I got it I think the sequence (in the row 2) :is 2sc in the same sc,1sc next3,2sc in the same sc,2sc in the same sc,1sc next 3 sc ……and repeat the sequence

@thenicolechase - hello and thank you for this video. I did purchase the PDF and am currently at the frill portion. Would you please let me know if my understanding of the instructions is correct? I am reading it as each row contains 6 sections of stitches. So for row 1 each section has 7 stitches, and when done 6 times, there should be 42 stitches total. And then continue with row 2 having 9 stitches, etc. Am I thinking of this correctly? I am new to crochet so I don't always understand the terminology. Thank you!

Hi! Are you referring to R2 of the frill piece? Make sure that you are doing the entire repeat, which both starts and ends with 2 SC. So it is (2, 1, 2)(2, 1, 2), and so on. Note that when the repeats continue, 2 and 2 are right next to each other. Hope that helps! Feel free to email me if you need anything else. :)

Sorry that you're having trouble, but it is correct. 😊 You do the repeat once, and then repeat an ADDITIONAL 5 times, for a total of 6 times. The repeat also both starts and ends with 2 SC, so it will look like this: 2,1,1,1,2,2,1,1,1,2,2,1,1,1,2, and so on. So you'll have 2 and 2 right next to each other. Hope that helps!

Hi! I can promise you that the math is correct. Be sure that you are doing the increase at both the start AND end of the repeating sequence. Which means that you'll have an increase and an increase right next to each other. (2,1,1,1,2)(2,1,1,1,2)(2,1,1,1,2), and so on. Hope that helps!

The # on the write out do not add up. Idk since when 25+24 equals 54? Or even better 20*24 equals 60??? This is for the head. I have redone this 4x now and my body is so small and the head is huge. It’s not proportioned. So don’t waste your time trying this.

Sorry that you're having trouble, but it is correct. 😊 You do the repeat once, and then repeat an ADDITIONAL 5 times, for a total of 6 times. So for R15, you do (2,1,1,1)x6, and then 24. Same concept for R16. If the body is too small, perhaps you missed a few rounds? But the head will be proportionate after all the limbs are attached. You can check the reviews for the pattern on Etsy, or the projects on Ravelry, to see hundreds of completed Tanners, all looking proportionate when it's complete. Hope that helps! I know it can be frustrating when you want to work on something and it doesn't seem like it's adding up, but I can assure you that the pattern is correct as it's written. 😊 If you have any other issues, you can just send me an email and I'd be happy to help you out. ❤️

This somehow doesn't work for me? I did the 30 FSC thing and when I'm doing rnd 2 it is a lot less than 42 sc. So the I have done it like a chain and 30 sc and then rnd 2,it's sitll a lot less than 42

I saw the pattern but I'm stuck in head. I don't understand the " Repeat from * an additional 2 times. 1 SC in each of the next 9 sts around. (21 sts)" please helppppp!!

You repeat the sequence from the * just like you would for any other repeating round, except instead of doing it until you complete the entire round, you do it for a total of 3 times. Then you will have 9 sts remaining, and you work 1 SC into each of those 9, for a total of 21 sts. Hope that helps!

Make sure that you are both starting and ending the repeat with 2. So you have 2 and 2 right next to each other. And if your prior row doesn't have the correct stitch count of 30, then the next row count will not add up. Hope that helps!

Sounds like you are doing Mini Tanner, so... the repeat is 2, 1, 1 just like any other repeating sequence, but instead of doing it 6 times, you are only doing it 3 times. 2, 1, 1, 2, 1, 1, 2, 1, 1

About how many meters of yarn did it takes?

For the whole dinosaur, it takes about 218 yds of the main color and 60 of the secondary color. Hope that helps!

@nicolechase Iam dyslexic and I find it very confusing that you do not just use Inc and Dec in your partners and Instead call it all type of SC. I was disappointed after purchasing your pattern and seeing how you wrote it. :(

Sorry you were disappointed. Every designer has their own style of writing. Inc and Dec can be confusing because that can be done in any stitch, where a SC2tog is very specifically indicating it is a SC Dec. It mean the same thing and are commonly written in either way. I always want to be sure the exact stitch is clear, which is why I chose to write the way I do. Have a good day!

En español la secuencia por ejemplo en la ronda 2 es : 1aum,3pb,1aum,1aum,3pb,1aum,1aum,3pb…. Y así en las siguientes rondas me pasó lo mismo no entendía y lo hice y deshice varias veces hasta que le entendí lo que quiso decir😅
