All these 28 years later, this story still moves me to tears-maybe even more so now-and it reminds me of what an injustice it was that Brad Maule did not win the Emmy that year. I think this story was written during Claire Labine’s tenure as Head Writer-she wrote some beautiful stories that transcended the genre (the Stone/Robin AIDS story and Monica’s breast cancer story), but this story represents GH at its artistic peak.
Claire Labine and Wendy Riche were a fabulous duo as head writer and executive producer at GH. Fabulous stories, editing, music, casting. The 90s were exceptional on GH!!!!
After this story line, I was not able to tune in everyday like I had since the 60’s when GH began. It was just the most heartbreaking story I ever seen on TV to think a child would die… I began watching again with my sister a couple years ago. That was a long time in between, and now Maxie is all grown up and no mention of this.
My hubby is a heart transplant recipient and watching this and knowing what the donor family went thru as they lost there loved one. It kind of puts it into perspective. We can never thank our donor John enough for the gift of his heart. And the donor mom we have met is so special to us. We can never thank the family enough
I remember watching this when it aired. I remember balling my eyes out. Watching it again 20 years later and I'm balling my eyes out. GH writers these days have no clue what they're doing. Miss these characters.
The acting in the lead up during and the aftermath were just devastating the scene where Maxie finds out she has BJ's heart in kevin's office were epic i loved how the storylines were all interwoven thought out and complexe and utilised the entire cast, you couldn't miss a day in case something huge happened,.
I agree. Ive watched this many times and each time I still cry lol. The quality of writing and acting here is scarcely seen today on GH or any other soap left on the air. The glory days are long gone.
Decided to look up this storyline after hearing about Jackie Z dying. Seeing Alan, Amy, Bobbie, Ruby and Steve again has me crying just as much as this storyline. Man I miss them and how great this show was back in the day. RIP Bobbie/Jackie.
@@FlavioGirl These were THE BEST performances in daytime HISTORY and were outrageously overlooked and under appreciated!! You’re so right it makes me SO angry and disappointed all these years later!! When Tony lays his head on Maxie’s chest listening to BJ’s heart mine BROKE!!! Brad Maule was beyond EXTRAORDINARY!!
Brad Maule was so extremely talented Actor and also Felicia was so awesome the whole scene was gut wrenching right where it hurts stomache and your heart ❤️ they both should of got a Emmy that was the best and hardest since g.h, wrote and especially for the actors to do that scene so Beautifully
Jack/Frisco&Kristina/Felicia became a Real Life Romance Publically in early 1990. They a Son together in Real Life. That Pregancy was written into FnF sl as FnF Maxie Pregancy. In Real Life 1994 Jack and Kristina were still in love and married about 5 months She just found out she was pregant with thier 2nd when these Scenes was taped Jack was back for this one sl . He had moved on from GH in 91 .
I saw this episode when it first aired, I cried like a baby and I’m crying again. What happened to those storylines. They had heart and soul, not the stuff that they write about today. ❤️❤️👍
Omg I stopped watching Gh when Frisco left ! I never knew this heart breaking story! The Jones boys had it so ruff, and Felicia she still my favorite girl to this day on GH. Wow I’ve not shed tears like this over a soap! Wow TONY was amazing in his acting! I miss the early days of the Jones brothers! So much tragedy for TONY over those years ahhh
kesingleton6 I was also 16 that year! (Class of 96) I loved 90s GH. I rewatch every so often. Love RU-vid GH fans for uploading! The most heartbreaking storyline I can remember and there have been a few.
Watching the scenes between the 2 brothers and the depth of their love for each other is what made this transplant story so moving and touching along with the close relationship between all characters in the story. Years later JW would have to go through this as his brother needed a bone marrow transplant. That's why this story was far more moving and touching than when they killed off Jake to give Josselyn a liver transplant
Yes. I hated how they killed Tony off. GH is not the same. I loved the 80s when they had great storylines and went on adventures. Now its just mob garbage
Jezz.. crying my eyes out here! This is story telling and acting at its finest! I remember when this first aired and I was heartbroken.. its still just as powerful today as it was then. Thanks so much for putting this story line up Minga!
Rewatching this, I have to again feel that what Carly did to Tony by telling him her baby was his and then him essentially “losing” him so close to BJ, was even more cruel than Carly will ever acknowledge. No wonder he had a complete breakdown. This SL was the most heartbreaking I’ve ever seen.
Agreed. I hated her for that, too. Though it's just a soap story, this and her nasty character and how she treated him and as you said, that she never really acknowledged how she hurt him for the reason of this story of how they lost BJ made me feel sick.
@@sarahswomley2580 Well, she should have damn well done it way before. Or at least stayed out of his life after they argued about custody over her baby. If she actually held a benefit for him, she should have publicly admitted the terrible things she had done to him, and there was a lot, and how he definitely didn't deserve it.
General was incredible back then. Remember running home from high school to catch it. I don't remember though why Tony was mad at Bobby over it? Loved the character Tony.
Just prior to the bus accident, Tony had caught Bobbie in bed with another man. He was still processing this when BJ was brought into the ER and subsequently died.
This storyline gets me every time. In fact I was watching Brad Anderson and Steve Burton talking to Brad Maule and Steve was getting choked up. He said he was there watching the storyline through and he was crying on the sidelines
This got me as a 12 year old and now as an adult. The acting from all these actors and actresses in these storylines was magnificent! So heartbreaking because of BJ being deceased and beautiful because Maxie received BJ's heart.
They were all incredible in this story. I wish to God they would write like this NOW! Tony was so cold to Bobbie. That made this whole thing so much worse.
It was programs like this among the various soaps that helped to being the importance of donating organ to the American public. It has to be a terribly difficult thing to do when a child is involved but the gift of life is the best gift one can give.
JZ is really gone since she passed away Real Life.Brad charactor Tony died but Brad is teaching back in Texas Jack is gone from GH and Daytime but still acting on a different type of show.
watched today, as Jackie Zeaman’ memorial ends on G.H I have to believe this was the most heartbreaking story in soap history, as a 50 year watcher of General Hospital, this story has been the one I never got over. Rest in peace Bobbie.
I've been watching GH for 45 years and I'm going to say it they always bring people back from the dead they need to bring back the Jones family Tania Tony & BJ Real Talk 💯
BJ is really Dead forever since they gave BJ Heart to Maxie. This about 1 brother helping the other brother to stay alive. It would be wrong and make sense.
When GH writing was at its best. Sure wish they hadn't killed Tony off. Brad Maul still has that gorgeous hunk of hair and he is one of those men that almost looks better in old age. GH could use a good doctor like Tony. Why he did not get the Emmy for this story - just befuddles the mind.
One of the most heartbreaking scenes is between Bobbie and Felicia when Felicia finds out its Barbara Jean's heart ..Or when Tony listens to BJ's heart beating in Maxies chest..I still cry now when i watch those scenes..General Hospital at its best..Not like the garbage the writers are putting out today !! 🤢
My son had Kawasaki Disease when he 14 mths old. It went undiagnosed after seeing multiple docs for 2 weeks. He had 9/10mm aneurysms in his coronary arteries and developed a blood clot. KD is no joke. I remember these episodes. Never remember Maxie was diagnosed with KD just thought it was a heart issue. Wish I would've remembered maybe my son wouldn't have suffered so much.
Everything worked well in this storyline for the most part except for the excessive long camera shots on Mac's face - and, even on Frisco's as well, especially when he first arrived. In earlier years - they didn't do this so much, it was more natural. I get what they were trying to emphasize about Mac/Felicia/Frisco but the audience wasn't blind, they could see where this was going a mile away. That moment Tony tells Frisco and Frisco processes it is gut wrenching. You can feel the shock, sadness, all of it between the two. Tony seems yet to be mostly in shock even while he is functioning. I think this is the first time we see Frisco ever cry - I know he does later but I can't recall ever before this. Happened so realistically too - sigh.
This is the all-time saddest of all of the story lines. I like many others like to look at the old stories when the soaps had really heartfelt story lines.
@gegeekay I think the current writers, actors need to rewatch this story. This is what GH fans want nto the garbage they are giving us. The only good acting this week regarding Robin's death has been Mac.
The shock on Frisco's face, when he learned of his niece, says it all. He just saw her (b.j.) this morning at the brownstone, now he's not going to see her again, along with the rest of the family
I was really mad at Tony I know Bobby messed around and it was wrong but they just lost their child he could have softened and let go of his ego.. he was pretty self righteous like with the Lucas storyline and than he just cheats with Carly so much for the sanctimonious act
I REALLY WISHED THAT IN THAT MOMENT WHEN ,WHEN BOBBIE SAID YES, THAT THE 2 OF THEM COULD HAVE HAD A HUG OR I AM SO SORRY, THEY BOTH LOST BJ. THEY BOTH LOVED HER
Damn I forgot about the whole Damien Smith thing and the issues between Tony and Bobbie. We thought Frisco and Felicia were going to be the most tense couple during all of this
