Titan is, as you say, "surprisingly" good. I have one done in ACRO steel, bought for about 45$, it has noticeably harder steel then my Solingen, which again, has noticeably harder steel then my GD, which should be about 59-60, about the same as this Titan. (ARCM-2, smtn like that). It takes some real work to put an edge on ACRO, but it's also unbelievably resilient, the edge looks almost the same after a year, and you know how the edge looks like after one shave, as if we have a copper beard... I read on some forum ppl giving it shy of 70hrc. Actually, the only problem with Titan is that every razor is the same, and even worse, every razor except for the cheapest ones - has a stabilizer. I like to see some different designs, spine fileworks, different tips, even some juvenile designs like that Ottoman GD W59 ;D Unfortunately, Titan is boring. But, yep, very good steal and heat treatment. If I may ask - what microscope are you using? Recommend me smtn cheap?
Hi Mate, thx for the support. Actually the Titan edge only lasted for 2 shaves even though I tried honing it again.... 😭 The microscope is this one: a.aliexpress.com/_mMLNRZW
very interesting, this technique could be thousand years old. i simply use leather strops glued to wood and flattend with sandpaper, then some polish paste with wax, then baby powder with oil, and at last concentrated car polish (let it dry a bit on a plate). Its fast and very sharp. maybe i find something finer than car polish.
@@FroggyShave started with hanging strops, but you cant get consistent results from that, so i glued them to wood. I applied polish material only one time, holds forever. There is diamond grinding paste for razor strops out there, perhaps this is finer than car polish. Car polish is really fine but there is always a way to exaggerate :-)
Thx for the support mate. The "Tape or No Tape" brings quite some discussions amongst hobbyists 😁 If the blade is not too damaged or height reduced, I'll always prefer to put a tape to not take any risk of scratching the spine. There won't be any geometry issue if I re-done the bevel from scratch. The only thing is, if the razor goes to a new owner, I'll let him know that I used tape, so he can do the same when honing it again. Worst case scenario, if the next owner doesn't use tape, he'll simply have to restart the bevel from scratch with a 1k stone.
Hey, It's indeed a G1200 with battery. It's good enough for me, focus is tricky but you'll get used to it. It'll be the same for all microscope unless you have a clamp to h ok ld.your razor.
Hey dear friend, I need your advice on this because I don't have enough money, so I plan to buy a 10000grit grinding stone with size 16cmx2cmx1cm . Will insufficient width affect the razor blade when sharpening? I need your help
Hi, I cannot tell you just like this. It depends on the stone and also on the edge. If it's a synthetic stone at 10000 it is OK to shave with it if you then use green chromium paste.
Great question and yes, I always remove the tape once done with the stones. Not needed anymore. Just make sure to not leave any adhesive on the blade before you strop it. ☺️👍
Merci
With straight razors, YES I love it! With this specific one, I got 2 good shaves with it and then the edge went back dull due to a poor steel quality I guess. 🥺
@@FroggyShave I was telling you this! but you have to discover before by yourself. Those razors are not tempered well and the steel is not good to retain an edge . Stil the hanging hair test will never be good! To realize that you should have do the hanging hair test with a double kai blades! This this the parameter! Gold dollars and similar are the same! Also the use of japanese stone of that qualitiy is not very good! It seemed that stone was a little economic! Anyway you must buy a Boker if you want a razor and you will have to struggle again defects at the same time because their quality is a little poor unless you will find very difficult something Better! Don't buy Dovo or Timor or others they are very bad! The blade of all razors very rare come straight and regrind it is very complicated and expensive! by you. others will not be able being out of the capacities of a normal person!
Unfortunately no... It looked good at first and then after one shave only it lost its edge. Most Gold Dollar razors have good enough steel quality, the Titan steel is actually not good.
