Samuel Z. Arkoff and James H. Nicholson Present "Frogs", released by American International in 1972. Starring Ray Milland, Sam Elliot, and Joan Van Ark.
This trailer used the scare the absolute PISS out of me when I was a kid! "Frogs" came out when I was seven, and the trailer used to come on TV at all times (not just later at night). It got to the point where, during commercials, I would get up and stand by the door, ready to flee just in case the "Frogs" trailer came on the screen! That hand hanging out of the frog's mouth used to really freak me out. My dad used to tease/scare us by putting his hand up to his mouth and yelling "Frogs!".
love this film, saw it for the first time as a kid in the 70's.this film also has a great cast, didn't realize until years later that was sam elliott in the movie.ray milland was a great classic actor, adam roarke did alot of cool films like dirty mary, crazy larry and the savage seven and joan van ark was in knots landing.there actually showing this movie friday night on the retro channel.
Wonderful . . . another movie trailer that used to scare the piss out of me back when I was a kid . . . They used to always show this trailer during the evening commercial breaks, at times when you'd least expect it. As soon as I saw the first scenes of this trailer, I would run out of the room screaming! For some reason, seeing that human hand hanging out of the frog's mouth at the end ALWAYS freaked me out! I used to think this was the scariest movie that ever was (although I never saw it!)
I saw this movie when I was like 9 years old. I used to sneak downstairs late at night when my parents were asleep and watch tv so that they could not sensor what I was watching. One night the movie Frogs was on. I watched it from beginning to end and it scared the crap out of me. I just watched it recently and the movie kind of sux. But it will always hold a special place in my hart because it is the first horror movie I ever saw.
I remember owning this as a kid and really enjoying it. I need to find a copy now and see just how badly it holds up, although I'm sure it'll be entertaining for other reasons. And man, what a poster that movie had.
I was in panama city fl and I met some of the stars of this movie, they were there promoting {FROGS} My sisters and friends met Sam Elliot {a real hunk!} Joan van Ark and Adam Roark. we got autographed pictures. I wish I still had Sam's. They were all really nice people, real young and just starting out. I was only 12 yrs old and this movie scared me. To this day I don't watch scary movies.
56mercgal i totally agree with you about the hand in the frogs mouth and how we should still have drive in out door movies were you can just relax they were awsom! :)
Absolutely hilarious movie. The ending was a hoot with the phone ringing and Milland screaming, "Who is this?" while in the next room a bunch of frogs are all over the phone...as if they phoned! I'm not making this up....
What's weird is that this film got released on the same date (05/10/1972) as another ecologically-themed film - namely "Silent Running" (one of my favourite sci-fi films.)
Always thought this was a pretty good movie. Remember seeing it with a couple of friends at the Drive-Inn when it came out. A few years later when VHS came out I had it in my collection. That is until the player decided to eat it along with a couple of other movies. Ha! The only thing that has always bothered me about this movie was that the frogs never did anything. It was like they dictated to the birds, lizards, snakes etc. to do their bidding. Maybe the name of the movie should have been, "The Dictator Frogs"!
I saw this movie at a friend's sleepover. Everyone was laughing at how cheesy it was, but I was terrified! I still can't bring myself to watch the spider scene. Ughhhh! Gives meh teh williez!! : 6
Horror flicks from the 70's like, Dawn of the dead Rabid, Last House on Left, Jaws 1 and 2, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Cannibal Holocaust, and Day of The Animals were all exceptional!
Frogs fricken rules! I saw this flick at Miners theatre in Collinsville Il way back in the early 70s. I also saw the double bill of House of dark shadows and The fearless vampire killers around the same time.Awesome! A few years later say around 1974 when i was 11 me and my friend saw the r rated horror flick They came from within at the same theatre. They wouldnt let us in to see the Exorcist but they let us in to this sick flick. Cheers!
Aida not Ahmad: I saw this film at the movies when it first came out... movies that featured rodents, like "Willard", "Ben" etc. were popular then. This one actually made me nauseated ! There are not only FROGS ! And the Frogs were the most peaceful !
I remember seeing this at the movie theater and the poster had a giant frog with a hand in its mouth. I kept waiting and waiting to see the giant frog. Sadly it never appeared except on the poster.
According to the trivia on the DVD, hundreds of African bullfrogs were used in the movie, and most of them escaped into the surrounding swamps. I've tried to get my nephews into this movie, but if there's no car chase or someone pointing a gun sideways, they're not interested. I saw it in the theatre, and it's a good thing it was an afternoon showing. Across the alley from my house was a swamp, and the frogs are very vocal at night.
I remember seeing this when I was 9 and it scared the bejezus out of me. Especially the tarantula scene. That was the first time that I had seen gore in a movie. This was also a good before they were stars movie, too, like Sam Elliot and Joan Van Ark. Then 3 years later, Jaws came out and you know the rest of the story.
They used to show this on the channel 7 3:30 Movie, later the 3:00 Movie, in Chicago. It's one of those movies that's better than it has any right to be.
Early Sam Elliott and Joan Van Ark film. Love every campy moment of it. By the way, there aren't any "frogs" in the movie. They are toads. LMAO. The African American sista in the movie is fine....damn. I think she was on different tv shows in the 70's.
I rolled over laughing watching the movie Venom (1981) with the real black mamba they used for the movie & an expert handler keeping an eye on the snake during the filming but there are a lot of exotics in the US that have gotten loose & foreign snakes. Yes, these movies are just for fun scary goodness but there's some truth to them. A lot of species are taking over & killing off other animals. Day of the Animals (1977), Grizzly (1977), The Wild Beasts (1984), & other movies u must see! ;)
This title was probably great for sales. I was thinking a horror movie called When Nature Calls would have to be about a killer BM but then I remembered Jim Carrey made that movie and it was pretty scary.
I LOVE this trash ! I cant believe Hollyweird hasnt remade this . Hasnt Rob Zombie seen this? Film & Art critic of Interview magazineFran Lebowitz called FROGS "the best bad movie I have ever seen !"
Think about it in this light. It's not a horror film at all. Rather it's a film based on a bunch of ignorant rich people who live on an island that has a great population of frogs, snakes, etc. and they don't want to deal with them.
