Did you dream about becoming an astronaut when you were little? Alyssa Carson did. Ever since she was a little girl, she has had her heart set on the stars. Not only did she dream of it, but she has also actually achieved it! In this TEDxTalk, she shares her journey from a childhood dream of becoming an astronaut to quite a realistic chance of being one of the first people on Mars. At just 18 years old, Alyssa is the first person to attend all three NASA Space Camps in the world, as well as to complete the NASA Passport program, visiting all 14 NASA Visitor Centers stretching across 9 states. Moreover, she is the youngest to be accepted and graduate the Advanced Possum Academy, officially making her certified to go to space and an astronaut trainee in 2016. Also, she is one of seven ambassadors representing Mars One, a mission to establish a human colony on Mars in 2030. To find out more about Alyssa, follow her on Instagram / nasablueberry or visit her website nasablueberry.com/ This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Your parents are probably right in this case. At that age your far from getting official training by NASA. This is girl is not in any way working for or being trained by NASA. All she's done is gone to a few space camps(not in any way supported by NASA) and her father generated all this buzz for her and it's working. So many people are looking up to her it's sad.

If you cannot become an astronaut in this way, you will have many different ways to become an astronaut, such as joining the air force and then apply to astronauts or become a space engineer, then apply to astronauts, etc. If you don't have enough money, become an astronaut in your own way, don't give up your dream too easily. In life, if you have a dream, find ways to do it. Make sure that by the time you are about to die, you may find that you have no regrets about the day you lived.

If your parents has money and connection everything can happen, However people like us who can’t even afford a house to rent can’t as they have no time and financial circumstances to do all these stuff as it cost a lot . People like us has to work some where in like KFC to pay our parents for home rent. All these training that she is doing such as sky diving it’d cost a lot. When she was 3 she has been enriched with money and didn’t need to work or worry and no stress so she could really achieve her dreams. People like me also have these dreams how ever not even have time to dream as there are bills to pay. I already gave up to on the dream not because I wanted, but I had to.

Again for the people in the back! She may have achieved a lot for her age, but she doesn't seem to have a clue about how much money her dream costs. Most of us have to work part time while struggling to pay for college, only for that degree to become useless because there's not enough job demands for what we've learned, and told we don't have enough experience for the few jobs we could get. She has had all of this handed to her. Admirable goal, but she hasn't earned her place when sitting next to those that have had to work their way to the top and obtain possible debt to obtain degree after degree. Struggles she has never even had to think about. My only shot at this point in my life is the path I'm taking now. With absolutely no guarantee of getting anywhere in space and a long shot alone to even get qualified to study it. Hello United States Air Force who is going to give me a job and tuition assistance to TRY to get as many relavent degrees as possible. If I had any advice for this young woman, it would be to go and get the credits, degrees, and work experience of a regular poor person. So she can at least have an idea of how implausible it is for us to walk in her shoes and so she may be even more thankful for the opportunity she has.

Maybe I'm missing on something, but how can you have a vision of what you want to be when you're 3 years old?
@ozzyfromspace
@ozzyfromspace 4 года назад
You can just tell that you wanna do something badly enough. Anything can trigger it. People do projects they think are cool all the time. But it’s rare that you find that one thing that hooks your mind and won’t let go no matter what. That cartoon sparked it for her. It is what it is. I can relate because I watched this one episode of Kim Possible (a cartoon) when I was 10, and it hooked me on the idea of personal vehicles to space. And I didn’t know electrical engineering, or accounting, profit or loss, opportunity cost, business model validation, physics, nothing. I just knew that I wanted to do aerospace engineering. If ever you’re fortunate enough to have your brain sparked so you can say, “this is exactly what I wanna do for the rest of my life” without any justification, you’ll know what her 3 year old mind experienced. I think her parents are NASA engineers or something, so they pushed her to act on this 3 year old vision she had, but that would be all for nothing if she didn’t believe it in her own capacity. I wish you the best, my friend. May you find that thing (or things) you’d do forever 🙏🏽
@diananikitaeva9230
@diananikitaeva9230 4 года назад
Float Circuit The point that I was trying to make is that it is very unlikely that this could happen to a 3 year old person. At that age kids are not really able to comprehend those things... they start feeding themselves, dressing themselves... all the basic things, you know, but not deciding what they want to be :) Most people don’t even remember themselves at that age. I do have a passion and I am extremely happy I found it.

I found this video to basically explain to me about how you can achieve your dreams at a young age. To me it’s not about the age, if it takes you from leaving school to becoming an astronaut 20years to accomplish that’s better than starting from a young age. It’s not about pushing yourself to choose and get your dream career before your 23, it’s about spending or dedicating your side to that dream, the best people are the ones who make up there mind and work hard to achieve that dream. She basically makes me feel like I should get some crazily qualified job before I’m legally able to drink.

We are,the Mars generation. Gives me chills, I never got the opportunity for an early start nor the support,but having cut ties with toxic family my life is now dedicated to a similar dream. While I'm struggling to make ends meet and juggling work college and life the goal of working for SpaceX keeps me going. The next steps after learning software programming will be robotics and astronautical engineering ,Excelsior!!!

jeremyn2008 Um you realize her parents spent a lot of money on her education and many summer vacations to Space Camps for her to be where she is now. You’re telling me a poor girl in south Arkansas whose Dad was an alcoholic junky who spent all his cash on booze and drugs and left his kids to survive on saltine crackers doesn’t have a little disadvantage in life compared to a girl like this? Not saying my life isn’t bad and I can’t make the most of it but for you to say people like me wouldn’t of had a completely different life if we had rich and stable parents like this girl is ridiculous and just not true.

If not, you can always take evening or community science classes after graduating or study science now by yourself at home in your free time, and then apply for a science programme at uni.
