Cass probably went to one of those Hollywood parties and saw somebody getting their trunk filled like a piñata and thought...you know what underground isn’t all that bad...in fact it’s splendid😂😂
💀💀💀😂😂😂. We really need to re-define what "Success" means to Oneself because stories like that, don't make me blame, Cass. Funny enough -- hes mentioned it, dozens of times in his bars/interviewers with no fear, so hes definately integral with it
"Leave you stuffed in the dumpster like Brenda's baby" is still one of my favorite battle bars. Freeway was begging for that beat 🤣🤣🤣 Salute to the dude Cass!
Philip your right plus he other ablums are pretty under appreciated and i respect him for staying real it’s a combo of both he did fell off but also he chose to stay underground anyways
Cassidy bruh he was ahead of his time in rap music he was killing everybody he faced Mixtapes and his rap battles was second to none nobody was not stopping him
I never forget being locked up with Cassidy when he was fighting that murder with Ar-Ab and him and I had to go to court on the same day and when we got to court and was getting put into the holding cells Cassidy made a remark that rubbed me and every other inmate who went to court that day the wrong way … as we were being loaded in the cell Cassidy told the guards “I don’t go into the holding cell with the regular people” 🤦🏽♂️ and was sure enough put in a holding cell by himself … we (the other inmates and I) was giving Cassidy hell that day down in the holding cells waiting for court by banging on the cell doors and repeating what he said in a whining voice and was getting on his ass bkuz he was in P.C. … ever since that day it was always hard for me to enjoy Cassidy’s music as much as I did before but I do root for him with his battle rap career for the simple fact he represents Philly
But he will tell u that he wants THE WORLD to know he’s the best, not just himself. Cass will disagree with what u said lol he didnt even admit that lil Nas X has a bigger song than Nas has ever had.... even tho that’s a fact, he said “nah, I’ll never say that. That’s Nas!!!” Yea it’s nas, but Nas x has a bigger song than anything Nas dropped lol Cass is always denying
Everyone forgets possibly the most unfortunate rapper with the most potential. The D.O.C wrote some of y’all favorite verses and was at one time the best rapper on the west coast. His story is sad yet mind boggling, Beanie Seagal reminds me of him in a lot of ways.
After watching this, and for some reason thinking of the new class of hip hop back in 2008-2010, you need to do a video on Charles Hamilton. Dude was gifted!
Cassidy’s bars were unwanted cus Kellz did what he always does & steal the show even when he isn’t the songwriter &/or producer. R. Kelly was an amazing artist w/ a horrible reality.
@@maroon9273 ima hustla was dope tho. I just listened to it and it's his best work. But it's also representative of the times we was in. 05 was a crazy year and the appropriate year for what he dropped. I wanted him to get more personal
Cassidy wasn't very lyrical he was punchline lyrical but he was inconsistent in having deep subject matter he wasn't personal in his content or had real storytelling in his music
Philly Stand UP Cassidy definitely was ahead of his time. I definitely remember listening to him growing up & he definitely had potential to be one of the Greatest but if you know you know. Anyway to anybody that’s watching this remember y’all, Keep Going & Be Safe 🤟🏾💯
This one was a good one. Goes to show you when you have talent, you're able to get backed by a legendary producer, and you went #1 twice you should stay away from the wrong crowd. Lock yourself in the studio and stay focused. Too many loose focus too quick and it squanders their opportunities and careers.
Man Cassidy and fabulous should reached a higher level of success than they did they both could write songs for the radio and still had music for the streets Cas had a murder case and fab had beef with the label
Cass and Fab shouldn't be grouped together. Even tho I do believe Fab should be on an higher level (label issues did hurt him) but I gotta him credit for consistency, mixtapes kept him afloat. Cassidy on the other hand ........ murder case to the car crash plus him leaving Swizz (without no direction/vision) it was predictable for his fall off.
Who you know involved In an accident like Cass, that can come anywhere close to continuing their previous stardom/career. Support Cass. He's one of the few to survive tragedy and emerge spitting bars following the said tragic event. 😔
Cass could spit but he can't formulate songs. That's his biggest growth stunt in my opinion. Plus he stop dealing with Swiss growth stunt number 2. Swiss could help him formulate better songs. Great video though and all those was great growth stunts
You’re right on point. He’s a battle rapper and we all know battle rappers can’t formulate songs or at least hit songs. Very few of them can be diverse and branch out of that lane. As u said, Swizz helped him formulate songs and when they broke up, that’s when I knew he wasn’t going mainstream.
Agreed he got BARS but his songs and beats are SUB par at best. Once he left Swiss Beats his songs are not good. I try to listen to his new shit on Spotify but they are lame to me.
Shit he signed to jive and that was the end of his story 🤣 his buzz died down by the time he got there ... pap my man but he killed and missed the shit out of his opportunity even though he got a mil out the deal and that’s prolly all he wanted already being like 30 something when he got exposure
@@benchwarmerss9165 Papoose just didn’t fit the mold for mainstream appeal. He, like Cassidy, was just a great punchline street rapper. He kept the $1.5M after Jive dropped him (Jive was trash w/ rap artists) & kept the streets fed w/ mixtapes while holding Remy Ma down while she did her bid. Nobody really saw Papoose coming out the streets to be the next up in mainstream rap.
Nobody was touchn Cass back then being from philly i was rocked all his joints, and gotta admit you growth stunts are rite on point, cass still got barz but it dont feel the same, lastly i dnt like when them battle rap dudes be tryn play Cass cause that aint real battle rap anyway thats WWE
It’s crazy cuz they tell you to switch ya style to be like everyone else when it was all about not being like everyone else ... I get versatility but people go overboard with the shit ... hell I’ve seen bull collector getting more rep than I would’ve ever seen back in the day .... not to say bill ain’t got bars but nah .... ironically I think he from philly too which is wild to me “you having close battles with bill collector??” Hitman to jjdd but now you see bill and his same style work now ..
@@benchwarmerss9165 everybody has to change to stay with the current. His way of punching is basic now when you got dudes doing triple entandre punchlines and more complex rhyme patterns.Even vets who have basic styles be are having to restructure or lose.
Its not the fact that its not real, I said its wwe cause they get like a month or so to plan it out study there opponent which is cool, but battle rap was in its rarest form when everything came straight off the top, give anybody enough time and they can write a book
The absolute only reason (in my humble opinion) Cassidy ever got signed is major labels throwing deals at ANYONE who could possibly be the next 50 cent, taking street mixtape buzz and turning it into platinum plaques. Very few if any were able to ever cross over from mixtape and battle rap to the charts, but MANY tried. Love the series
Nah I don’t think that’s it at that time you honestly could get signed just with a sick freestyle like how 106 and park would sign the battle rap champ after 7 weeks
May I suggest Young Chris from the Yung Gunz? OR Cory Gunz Or Papoose or Pastor Mase or Big Boi (solo career) or Big L or the greatest MC of all time Bow Wow?
he took what Big L did and went to another level and that's STILL the standard & form that we punch with today. so when mfs say he outdated I don't get it when rap hasn't took it to another level yet, the format he used then niggas still TRY to use
Another Major reason is he became a battle rap artist. That usually stunts you from making mainstream hits. Usually come from battle rap to The industry and may dibble and dabble back in it for fun or sport.. but Cassidy went all in as a battle rapper. It’s hard to come out of that stage.
It's sad when a lot of talented artists miss their boat to shine. They got it right in the 80's, 90's and early 2000's but I feel since 2006 things have been off and we don't get the magic that we used to get.
I hate when people say "he didn't sell his soul"... you don't have to sell your soul to be successful. He messed up and got into a car accident and then music changed. If he never got locked up around the time his album was coming out, he could've promoted it properly and continued his success. Who wants to stay underground with no money? Nobody...
@@Gemini050788 Exactly... However... you can see who's successful and who isn't (in a lot of cases, not all). I.E... King Los is underground and writes for others. We as fans can see how active he is. Cass, as much as I enjoyed him growing up, "respectfully" he's not on too many people's radar underground. It cost money to be underground... you have to pay to promote, pay to distribute your music, pay for production (unless he produces his whole album which in most cases spells disaster)... most of the money for underground artists comes from touring which really isn't happening much these days. So his core fans might enjoy him, financially it may not be the best case for him.
@@pettymurphy2243 I understand all that. But I’ll agree to say we see things differently as I’m not one that subscribes to the idea of you can “see” who is successful or who isn’t. Sight is the easiest sense to fool. But once again I see the point you’re making.
@@Gemini050788 I feel you. The "see success" thing was blanketed a little bit. We might might think someone is but they really aren't. So you're definitely right on that point. I feel where you're coming from though. ✊🏾
You need to do one on what stunted Big Daddy Kane growth after 88 and 89 after having two gold records then gangsta rap started to surface and the dance rap stuff BDK was doing became obsolete and he never charted again after 89.
@@isayasbashiri5371 if you listen to Rakim right now even to this day his music resonate with the times, but listening to BDK everything he made sounds remedial and out dated
Ikr. Crossover focus in the music industry as a whole has been the common route since forever. No hate to artists who are in that boat but it is refreshing when artists go the uncommon route in order to stay true to themselves.
Cassidy, Lloyd Banks, max b, Joel Santana, Eminem, jada kiss, styles p, big L, Stack Bundles, bigge smalls, 2 pac, Pig Pun, prodigy. These guys would of been great together in a #rapslammix.
Y'all tripping Lupe good. Classic songs & albums. Actually Lupe is the goal. He has had success like an A star rapper but not the fame. Perfect situation.
@@realjcoop182 Lupe had top 15 rapper ever potential and based off the first couple albums, looked like he was gonna get there. And then boom the notorious "label" stunt happened. Lupe still a top 25 rapper ever imo, and has influenced many, but he could have reached way higher levels in music period.
Regardless of Diddy creating them and controlling them, the fact that once they were disbanded we never heard of them again, maybe Chopper here and there with his Money Over Everything mixtapes, but they all were talented enough to be relative in hip-hop.
Mann cass is a threat to dudes Smell these rocks I’m cooking it ain’t wrestling moves. In I like my hash brown like breakfast food. You like I might maybe I’m late definite dude. I’m always out on some hood street ish. In I always stick to nghas like good defense
Unlike many from the early 2000s mixtape era, cassidy actually had a few hit songs & dropped albums so he's really 1of the few successful mixtape rappers of that time.
His first mistake was having his first 2 singles be R&B lovey songs. That wasn’t his lane. But like many artists he lacked the versatility to achieve more than he did.
Cass my man for life. I know mainstream moved on but he had his hits and still has the ability to make good music. He kept his soul and love of music. He still makes good music and has bars. I still ruck with him. I love Cass one my goats. Cass, 50, and Wayne my big three period. Idc if they fell off to the mainstream audience.
Jada Kiss never changed his flow. Cass flow is a conversational flow. It literally always make sense and you can just read the lyrics. That sounds boring but when you add punchlines it's actually complex to. He doesn't stretch or cheat rhymes.. Drake always has the same flow when rap raps.
Push isn't stunted. His last album was his most successful solo album and he runs Good Music. Also he defeated the biggest artist in music for the last decade in a rap battle.Pusha is doing just fine.
@@christophermiller6835 anything but a 1 hit wonder, one of the first rappers to have a HUGE internet based following, particularly after his debut album.
@@carlosg4342 I said 'hit' as in hit records. Dude literally only has 1 hit record. I'm talking about Billboard top 100, not underground or something that only die hard Joe Budden fans know.
Ppl laughed when Joe Budden said he was better than Eminem at one point in time. I wanna say it was like late 2000s-early 2010s when even MTV had a Top rappers in the game list & Joe Budden (YEARS after “Pump It Up”) was voted the best rapper at the time cus of his Mood Muzik mixtapes. Ppl just keep putting Joe’s career in a box like he ain’t shake the streets up years after Def Jam.
Still dont see any 'HIT' records being posted. Nobody's doubting his rapping, but if we're keeping it 💯, dude ONLY got 1 hit record...we're talking strictly hits, not lyrics/rapping ability/mixtapes...ONLY HITS..I feel like I gotta keep saying that.
Cass from my neighborhood. Couple years younger than me. Remember he was "The Bol B" 103.9 Battle of the Beats. When he was like 15. Had a fast scientific rap style like Canibus. Then saw him battle on the streets around the way.....then the Freewat tape happened and the rest was history
