I get a lump in my throat when I hear this! I love this song. Not allowing it to be played is a travesty and a crime against Southern culture. “Let’s celebrate America!” Play the song!
This version, “Dixie, with love” mixes and alternates between the Battle Hymn of the Republic, which was the union (north) battle song, and the south’s song, Dixie, symbolizing how the country eventually came back together. This is crucial context to tell people who think that the band is only playing Dixie here.
Iowan here: Banning this is just ridiculous. The Iowa Marching Band played this beautiful song all during the 80s and the crowd loved it. Fabulous tradition - it really honors both north and south
As a lifelong Alabama fan. Let the band play Dixie. One of my favorite sec traditions outside of Tuscaloosa. Miss hearing this, gave you chills everytime. Hasn’t been the same since
I beg the student council at Ole Miss to please bring this song back. It is a beautiful song, and any kind, or color is always welcome at our tent in the grove for food and free drinks.
Such a travesty that this song was banned. It has absolutely nothing to do with slavery. States rights and the heavy taxation of southern states. When will this madness stop???
+James Brown when we fucking take matters into our own hands like our great, great great grandfathers did and fought for Dixie....she is our birthland, our heritage and our mother
Dixie is song about remembering where one came from and to be proud of that fact...Politics aside...Dixe is a beatiful song that should inspire everyone to be proud of where they come from... I am in Dixie and Dixie is me and shall always be so. The South is a place. Dixie really isn't a place. It is in the heart. When last I draw breath, in Dixie's bossom I will sleep.....
the immoral marxists will always be a thorn on the side of those who support the dixie song and dixie flags!! starting with the left wing media and the leftwingers who run the colleges schools and universities who are led by leftwing politicians !!
@@illinoisboy8577 there was a few southern dixie songs during the civil war sang by confederate soldiers that was totally different then the northern dixie song that president lincoln liked!! the music was similar but the southern dixie songs were longer!! amazing!!
Go to South Carolina.. from Connecticut. As someone from one of the most liberal states in America it truly disgusts me that ppl especially ppl up north want to tear down your beautiful traditions. Anyone who thinks this song or Dixie’s Land represents Slavery is dead wrong and even if they do think so it is ridiculous that they feel the need to enforce their stupid rules on your beloved tradition. Southerners should be allowed to express love for their heritage and ancestors as well as where they’re from without anyone bothering them
@@AC-jn5rk Written before The Civil War as a minstrel song our late President Abe Lincoln considered one of the best songs he ever heard. Oh wait….he was a racist too in your shallow mind. Enjoy your sad life. Done.
From an outsider and as an English and Italian heritage. This banning of Dixie and it's history in public strikes to me as a very fascist dictatorship enforcement. I was led to believe that America was the land of the free ?
DAMN DAMN DAMN HOW I MISS THIS SONG,OLE MISS PLAYS IT WITH SUCH PASSION,LOVE,AND RESPECT THAT ITS HANDS DOWN THE BEST I HAVE EVER HEARD ROLL ON REBELS,HOTTY TOTTY
Love to hear this- I am a 1972 grad of N.B. Forrest Sr.High School Jax Fl. This was our fight song! Nobody played it better than our Rebel Band!!! School's name got changed but 55 years of Grads KNOW what it is to be a FORREST REBEL! GOOD times there are not forgotten! N.B. Forrest high school FOREVER!! Give 'em HELL REBELS!!!!
The idea and the culture of the Southern states as an entity are so much more than just this one aspect that is the segregationist past ; when Ole Miss alumni hear this song, their song, it's only about the Cultural Heritage and pride in their university, not in any celebration of racism ! To try and kill the cultural identity of so many people for political correctness is criminal ! Respect to the Great South from France.
I hate that my Junior year was the last time they played it. I would have loved to hear it one more time before I graduated. It's the Prettiest Song I've ever heard. #HOTTYTODDY.
The pride of the South lies in the battlefields of the Civil War. Smaller numbers of Southerners routinely defeated larger numbers of Northerners. It is the pride of those victories that is represented by this song "Dixie". It has nothing to do with slavery.
Andrew Brown Dixie with love was written by a previous Olemiss band director who happened to be from New York but married a woman from Mississippi. Dixie with love isn't just Dixie. It borrows the melody and that's about it. It has nothing to do with racism or slavery.
I'm a die hard Bama fan but I love the traditions of SEC football from all the teams. It's sad that Dixie with Love is gone. Roll Tide and, just this once, Hotty Toddy.
I would just like to chime in. I'm a liberal and a Georgia Tech fan and soon to be student hopefully. I think they should unban it for the same reason I think they should bring back Chief Illiniwek at Illinois. There are thousands of universities and colleges, hundreds in each state. If you don't like the atmosphere at one, go elsewhere. This isn't a liberal thing. This is a "I can't control my emotions, so everyone control them for me" thing. I've seen conservatives do the same thing. Come in and try to change every little thing to make it fit their idea of what it should be. Mississippi is stuck in the past? Well that's their choice as Americans. Fascism is bad from either wing, left or right.
Absolutely! Well said. Sadly though it is okay to kill the cultural identity of some because a few don't like it. Go Rebels and bring back our heritage!
You might want to listen to "Dixie" and "From Dixie with Love". These are two different songs, I played them both. Similar, but different in their own special way. It's despicable that Dan Jones bows to the ghosts of the past instead of rebranding them. Had Jones embraced the chant of the South will rise again during "with Love" and said it will indeed rise again just economically, culturally, socially, he could have helped usher in a new era at Ole Miss and for Mississippi.
i exactly know what you mean sir!!94% of the students of the university of mississippi voted to keep the mascot and logos of colonel reb but the politically correct authorities of the college refused their demands just because of the 6%mostly people of color who didn't want the rebel mascot and logos because they say it represents symbols of slavery yet they were never slaves!! i seen the video about it ! how colonel reb was hired then fired and replaced by a black bear and a shark mascot!! are you that same colonel reb i'm talking to? or a supporter? if your him i would like to say i totally support you!! since i am major reb we almost have the same name!! many of us canadians support dixieland the dixie southern version song as well as confederate heritage!! we in canada are making several episodes of a movie called ((duel of the outlaws)) in a trailer about confederate outlaws from the 17th mississippi infantry who refused to surrender to the damn yankees!! another one a 12 minute film done within 7 hours called the marshal of old longhorn county a movie about montana in 1895 near virginia city!! check it out and tell your friends!!sure would be honored to have you in our movie whether you are the colonel reb or not the fact that you put an honorable dixie flag with colonel reb in front makes me proud to know that you carry the tradition of southern heritage and gentry by these great symbols!! i have a distant ancestor who made that dixie X flag. his name is CONFEDERATE GENERAL PIERRE GUSTAVE TOUTANT BEAUREGARD !! this flag is also known as beauregard's battleflag !! i can tell you stories about him when he was a general that will surprise you! tell me about yourself colonel. a confederate salute to you sir!! keep in touch brother!!god bless!!
“I wish I was in the land of cotton Old times there are not forgotten Look away Look away Look away Dixieland Oh Dixielands where I was born Early Lord, one frosted morn Look away Look away Look away Dixieland I wish I was in Dixie Away Away In Dixieland I’ll take my stand To live and die in Dixie Away Away Away Down south in Dixie “
All true Ole Miss fans should stand and turn their backs to the field at the start of the game until the administration brings back from Dixie With Love and Colonel Reb. Stop giving donations, money will bring our traditions back.
Florida Gators Fan- bring this song back! Where is the respect for Southern Heritage? This song is a collaboration of "Dixie" and "The Battle Hymn of The Republic" civil war songs from both sides of the war. Nothing racist about Dixie or The Confederacy...propaganda to make the Confederates look like they fought for slavery. Rubbish and lies from history.
Why bring flags confederate flags to the games? Why bring United States flags to the games? There's no reason for that. I was simply saying there is no need to get rid of a classic American song that represents an important part of history from our past. Dixie is a popular American song that even Abraham Lincoln himself liked. There is nothing racist, or even remotely close to being considered racist or prejudiced about the song. As a Florida fan looking at Ole Miss and the history of the south, it's disgraceful to make the band stop playing such a beautiful piece of music that represents ole miss and American/southern history.
From a D1 player start playing that again and you'll finish at that bottom yr. after yr.The tone of the song is beautiful esp with female vocals and violin, but comming from a the perspective of a southern black man.It makes you really uncomfortable to say the least .I respect your opinion sir gd luck on your rebels
I understand the strong history of slavery and the struggle of the African American man and I am very liberal politically but I just wish the confederate flag and dixie weren't used as such symbols of hate because the US flag is also used at racist rallies and such and the US flag flew for slavery for over 100 years before the confederate flag did and back then both sides didn't care at all about the slaves or black people in general so its not fair to just make the south look bad
blame it on the politically correct teachers of the university of mississippi !! there was a 94% vote by the students to keep colonel reb mascot and logos and dixie song but the teachers refused their request!! just because of the 6% mostly people of color who cry slavery when they were never slaves!
When Finland was under Czarist Russia Sybelius's suite Finlandia was banned from concert programmes. So the Finn's would include time for an impromptu item which was usually Finlandia. Just saying. .
People misunderstand why the ole miss band was forbidden from playing it in public. It happened because there was a group of students that would shout "the south will rise again." during the song even after University officials requested that they stop.
I still love this so much. I got my bachelors from Ole Miss. I hate the idiot who took it away and damn the political correctness that made him think he had to do it.
I just don't understand the big fuss I am from the MS delta and I'm black and this song does not bother me. I know y its being played and to be honest its a beautiful song..
People don’t understand that while the confederacy was intent on preserving slavery, the typical southerner/soldiers were impoverished farmers who didn’t own slaves. The coming men were mainly concerned with the fact that the north was coming in to invade- and sometimes that included them burning your crops, home and community. There were crimes and rapes that would happen on both sides when invading. Let southerners revere their loved ones and positive aspects of their history- while also understanding that their reliance on slavery was evil and did their souls and economy more harm than good. This nation was built by rebels!
Florida born and bred and the rest of the southern states today have no fucking clue what an impact the state of Florida had on the confederacy. It ain't just Disney world and Miami down here. If you could look at what I'm Looking at in my back yard you'd understand. Go fucking Gators!
Honestly, i HATE racism. But what i hate even more than racism, is when people get their rights taken away. Its called FREEDOM OF SPEECH. Dont blame the people who said "the south will rise again" for the removal of the song. Its the people who actually had the authority to remove the songs fault. They didnt respect freedom of speech, so they decided to not let the band play the song. If you wanna get mad at anyone, blame the person who actually took it away, not the fans
@tgrfan42069 Im a Tiger too. This has always been on my iPod. Its sad they got raped by the NCAA twice. Once with the song and then with the removal of Colonel Reb. Im surprised they havnt come after us and LSU since Tiger Rag was mde famous by Dixieland Jazz Band and is from the musical genre of Dixieland. I feel like if you mention the South today, then you are condemned by the 'PC' Police. Go Tigers
@HectorEscobar: The New York Yankees are "Yankees" because they play in the American League, and because the New York newspaper editors preferred to write "Yanks" in their headlines rather than "Highlanders" to save characters. The Civil War has nothing to do with it.
Funny how much liberal bashing is going on here, when there's plenty of liberals who enjoy the song. You don't have to have a political agenda to like a song.
All of you are aware that they still are allowed to play Dixie, right? They play it the exact same way, only they don't play the Battle Hymn of the Republic at the end where the fans can scream "The South will rise again." Some of you might want to do a little research before you cry about traditions being stripped.
A disgrace to take away Dixie and the Ole Miss Reb.. that is Ole Miss! I don't believe that most think of Dixie being racism, bunch of bull... Bring it back to make "Ole Miss" what we are known for..
