From Hiss to Purrr - Steps to Socializing a Scared Kitten - Part 1 

Hi Kitten School Lady. One trick I learned socializing hissing and spitting kittens, if they are still young enough to still have their 'pin feather kitten fur' was to just grab them and hold them directly over my heart so they could hear-feel my heart beating. Apparently Kittens are Instinctually Inhibited from Violence when they are that close to a Heart Beat, in order to prevent inadvertent aggression against the Mother Cat. Try it! For little kittens it speeds up the Socialization Process by Days. It works so well, that I was sort of known as a Miracle Worker at the Kennels and Animal Hospitals where I volunteered... until I told everybody what my 'trick' was.

I just had a litter where one of the kittens just hated human contact. It was handled since birth too. All of the others were great with us. It was just the one who would hide behind the washing machine when we would come in the room. She purred when stroked but woud only let you stroke her when she was relaxed. She loved licking small amounts of squirty cream from my fingertip but never fully trusted us. I hope her new owner has more success.

I just adopted a 5 month old female tabby about a week ago. I always pet her when I am sitting on my chair or my bed (I use treats to lure her). But when I'm standing up or walking around she tends run away and hide from me. I'm just confused on why she gets scared of me.

I got a new cat yesterday he is only 10 weeks but it’s hard bc we got him late last night so we couldn’t get him a box so we had to put him in a cardboard box for now but we are getting him a cage today

I have four stray kittens my family refuse to let them in so i feed the m everyday out side but even after few months from feeding and spending time with them the still very afraid of me and scratches me me i tried to let them smell my finger so they get used to me but the scratches are still going and i'm so scared now and my family told me to stop feed them. Hey! I recently got two kittens from a foster home (they were born outside and was taken in by a woman, and was living at her place for a couple of weeks before I adopted/bought them). They're out at night and playing, they're also eating at night. And they also go in the litter box at night. I got them the food they ate at the foster home, get them some wet food as well. Some treats, toys, scratching pillar and also a little box they can chill in with a blanket that smells of their mother. And recently got a cat pheromone difuser to help. In the daytime though they're pretty afraid, hiding in pretty much one place all the time. For me it's saddening to see them afraid, I just want them to be happy. Do you or someone got any advice for me? I've only had them for 3 days. Should I just ignore them/leave them alone until they seek attention? I've seen different advice around the web, and they're 13 weeks old. I've tried to engage in some playing, offering them food on a spoon/on my finger with no results.

What if they start making a frustrated noise, not quite a growl when you hold them. Her tail starts moving from side to side to and she wants to go. Is it bad to keep her in my hands?

I recently got two feral kittens. They are both siblings. They never hissed at me or tried to bite me or claw me. In fact, the female one is starting to become comfortable with me. I can find her in her hiding spot and start to pet her. I was able to pet her within 24 hours of getting her and also hold her and she didn't try to bolt or get out of my lap and I bypassed a lot of these little things. She still likes to hide when I come in though. Why does she still hide from me even though she seems comfortable with me petting her and holding her and she isn't skittish? Did I make a mistake by progressing too fast Thanks! Keep in mind I had been feeding them outside for about 2-3 weeks before I brought them inside the house.

What if you have two frighten kittens? Here you have to adopt 2 cat's instead of one. But they are very afraid (brother & sister). So they stay afraid together. Like they are copying each other. What to do?

I currently am keeping three kittens in a crate kinda like the one you have Harry Winston in in this video. When I try to pick one up it’ll hiss at me. They allow me to pet them lightly but I’m not sure as to what to do to get them to calm down a little more and start trusting me more. They see me bring them food and water. They’re all so wary and nervous and I just want them to feel safe. They also sadly have fleas so I wasn’t sure if maybe that’s also making them more upset.

24 hours TOPS!!!!!! in a box that small. They have no room to excercise. The litterbox is taking up most of the space.
