How to move your bees from a Langstroth/traditional frame hive into
Top Bar Hive (TBH), fast and easy!
Transforming a frame into a top bar takes only 1,5 minute using this method!

I thought this screw method was the best I'd seen. We just used it to transfer five frames from a nuc hive to a top bar hive and it worked perfectly. Many thanks for the idea.

You can cut frames like that using a circular saw. Use the follower board as a guide. Zips right thru and cuts clean too. I started my top bars the same way but they had plastic foundations to cut.

Looks nice and easy - on empty frames With live brood and nectar and honey it will be a mess As for using a power tool to cut wax, a serrated bread knife would do just a well

The power tool with an abrasive cutting edge also cuts through the staple holding the Langs frame together and any stainless wire supports the Langs may have. And no, it is not a mess. Perhaps if you actually did this rather than commenting from whatever easy chair you are occupying you would know what you are talking about.

@@tvideo1189 I have both top bar and Langstroth hives for years. In the video he’s playing with empty dry comb and that’s easy. Doing it with heavy wet comb is a disaster. And no skippy, I’m not posting a video for you. Just tapping out this reply is the extent of the attention I’ll give you, so go away.

@@followme8238 In "my" video? And exactly where did you see "my" video of this???? There is no way you are going to move loaded frames without some spillage. But what method to accomplish this DOESN'T end up being pretty sloppy? In his video (notice not "my" video) he does a nice job, gets it done, and that's it. Lets see "YOUR" video sparky.

Hi! Empty frames? The were full of brood, some full with honey and pollen. But it was a pretty cold day, maybe 15 degrees Celsius which kept the honey from dropping. It was truly not hard at all, but had two handy family men to help me, both carpenter and one a brilliant engineer! Good luck with whichever method you choose! :) Cheers/ Johan

What do you do with any comb that you trim off? Some of it is filled with larvae or honey or it could be some stored sugar (I was feeding) I hate to just throw it out

You could put it on a “rescue bar” inside the TBH if it’s a large chunk maybe? If it’s just honey or sugar, leaving it out I’m sure the bees will find it and break it down to reuse.

why you do not make your topbar hive with the top bars long as the langstroth frame top bar?So you must no cut these frames

Why not use a top bar hive that is a cube and will fit unmodified frames? Serious question, not suggesting

The theory is that they will be less inclined to draw comb onto the sides at that angle, so it becomes easier to removes the comb compared to a cube.

Seems as if the comb should be cut 3/8" smaller than the wooden follower/divider board.

Hi! You are totally correct! When I repeated the operation this summer I learned from my experience and did exactly that. It enables the bees to build like they want and the wax doesn´t glue againast the sides (with propolis), in turn making it easier to move the top bars. Thanks for input! Best/Johan
