Addendum 1: It's been brought to my attention that Stephen Frost highlighted more specifics about the Final Cut version of Aladdin on Twitter: twitter.com/frostman007/status/1166767866361696257 "...we went in and fixed aspects of the camera, smoothed out the difficulty, added additional areas, tweaked the combat and a host of other adjustments." I've been at least able to confirm that the Final Cut version holds an additional Abu bonus level in it. I'm constantly impressed by Digital Eclipse work and the Final Cut version of Aladdin was no exception. Addendum 2: What is shown is NOT "Super Game Boy" colors. Those are merely the colors as if played on a game boy color or Game Boy Advance. Super Game Boy was what many media outlets had labelled the colored version of the game boy game in the collection but that's incorrect.
The Master System and Game Gear version of Aladdin is also impressive. It is somewhat short, but is the only game to tell the whole story though animated cutscenes. The gameplay takes after Prince of Persia.
I agree it was a very good Aladdin port. When I first bought it back then for the game gear I just assumed that was going to be a port of the Genesis version like how the game boy was but then I booted it up and I see Aladdin getting chased around and right away I knew the game was going to be good.
I have never played any of the Aladdin games but I have played the Sega version of The Lion King. Took forever to beat and the game's difficulty will beat you down, I remember rage quits lol That game is ridiculously difficult at times but fun and I have a fondness from the nostalgia (and it's one of my fav Disney movies tbh). I would like to play it again and try Aladdin but not sure I'd pay so much just to play the best version of only these two games. Thank you for such a detailed analysis of this collection and all versions of both games included. I had no clue so many existed.
Aladdin is much easier than The Lion King but still has a couple difficulty spikes towards the end. I would wait for a sale since the price is ridiculous for what we are getting. For this price, I would expect redrawn HD art for both games. Or a proper collection including The Jungle Book, Mickey Mania, World of Illusion, etc. As 2pac said "Momma ain't raised no fool."
@@FOXDUDETV I see, hoping I can try Aladdin one day Yeah, a sale would be great to invest. Also, I agree, it's just too expensive especially lacking an HD version of both. A Disney collection from that gaming era would've been a great idea to at least make sense. I'm sure these two released only to hype the remakes this year but I think keeping it cheap would've helped.
When I was a kid I had a compilation of these three games on CD-ROM titled 'Disney's Classic Video games'. They were pretty much the Genesis/Megadrive ports of the games. I recall the Jungle Book version I played had no sound .And in Aladdin it would have more epic sounding music, but the music would either loop or have animations missing (like no scarab intro animation or Aladdin & Abu dancing across the screen during the Level complete screen)
Hi this vid made me subscribe..brilliant stuff..any chance please of a updated video now that they just recently added the jungle book plus many more versions of each game to this collection?
Had both Genesis versions of Aladdin and The Lion King before I bought the compilation for the Switch. They were really difficult to beat, but I enjoyed them back in the day.
Yes, I don't even understand why they've removed the adult simba levels. I almost thought that like the game was Shorter on each difficult. Do you play it on for a second when I first saw it. I don't know why they did that on the gameboy. Version where it has all the levels, but on the easiest difficulty. The game ends at the stampede level.
I was never much of Disney kid growing up, but I do remember really liking Aladdin and Lion King in particular. I do slightly prefer the SNES Aladdin to the Genesis one, but I honestly adore both. I also remember a playing a Game Gear Aladdin game that a friend of mine had that was wildly different from both versions. Also, SNK Classics Collection recently had a patch that just added more games at no extra cost, I would love it of they'd do that for this collection and add the GBC Aladdin and the NES versions of both (even if they aren't good, I still would like for them to be preserved) EDIT: Well, apparently, I was holding the Monado to some degree, more games are getting added in with DLC, including Jungle Book and the Capcom Aladdin!
I remember playing the most Game Gear Aladdin. I know it might not be the same as the GB versions, but I so really loved that version. I am kinda nostalgic for it and I would have went for the updated version of this collection if they had it on there. Though I am very nostalgic on the Lion king on SNES is the reason I bought it in the first place on the Switch. So I can take it anywhere.
Yeah he didn’t talk about the DOS versions of both games either. DOS was the best way to play games in the 90s so both versions had the best graphics and music of any port.
I remember thinking that the SNES version was just a poor rip off that wasn't actually licensed or something, but then I actually played it and it's a really solid game and I ended up liking it a lot. I dunno that I'd say I liked it better than the Mega Drive version. But I think they're both worth a playthrough and they each have different strengths and weaknesses.
I grew up playing the Sega versions of both games so they will always be my favorites, but the inclusion of both the Sega and Nintendo versions is a welcome bonus since I never got to play them.
@Freezingred2, what they should do is... WORK TOGETHER! And make other companies jealous. And yes, we’d all like to see The Jungle Book, Tarzan, Pinocchio, Toy Story (Including its PC version and an updated version), A Bug’s Life, an updated version of Aladdin: Nasira’s Revenge (Because it could have been updated), and of course, Toy Story 2: Buzz Lightyear to the Rescue, among many others.
I wish they make a Disney Classic Games version of Pinocchio and Pocahontas. Although, Pinocchio is created by Virgin Interactive and Pocahontas is created by Funcom. I wouldn't think it would matter, but hopefully it's possible to make those two games combine for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X and Microsoft Windows.
Both were also on PC with all the levels intact, but Lion King was a little buggy, for example sometimes the roar meter would just not refill, making progress on stage 2 impossible.
I played the SNES versions as a kid, but I preferred Lion King far over Aladdin. Now that I know about the version differences, I'll have to give the Genesis Aladdin a try if I can get it.
I wish the Capcom Aladdin for SNES was included, I would've bought the collection just for that one version. I played the gba color version also but it's not the same😔
Never play both Capcom and Virgin version, but if I have do play them, I don't want to buy the compilation, who just surf on the succes of the movies remake. But great video, I like this segment 🤘.
The SNES version of Aladdin is SO much better than the Genesis version in my personal opinion; but it's 100% credited to nostalgia. Haha I also find the music engine to be far superior on the SNES.
I always prefer the Genesis version of almost all Disney games that were on both it and the SNES. They just always looked more colorful and smoother animations and felt more like a Disney movie to me as a kid whereas the Super Nintendo version is always felt like Mega Man or Mario or something just skinned as that character it's hard to explain but something to do with like the level design and all the platforms essentially just being like rows of bricks similar to those other NES and SNES platformers it locked the parallax backgrounds that Genesis had and the depth in the music
You say the Game Boy games can be played with Super Game Boy to give them color. However that color palette looks more like the default of what you would get if you put a GB game into a GBC/GBA. I haven't seen it for myself but I suspect the presentation on Super Game Boy would look a bit different.
Ugh, thank you for pointing this out. I should've checked, I said Super Game Boy because press statements and such called the colored version the Super Game Boy version, but you're right that the Super Game Boy colors are totally different. I'll add this to my addendum
@@AustinSV The press statements said that? Well that explains how that happened. I got curious and looked it up after reading this comment. If the one video I found is correct, there is some special functionality on the Super Game Boy. It's one of those games where there's one color palette for the main screen and a different color palette for the HUD at the bottom of the screen. Not shown in that video, but you can find elsewhere online there's a special border for this game. Thanks for letting me ramble!
I actually like both Aladdin Versions(Snes&Genesis) I grew up with the sega one, in fact it was my first videogame but more recently I have played the nintendo version and it's harder without a sword and all the acrobatics(especially the extra parts on gba) but it's really fun. The virgin games did a great job with animation and how the levels looked but the Snes had the "Hover" cloth which makes jumps easier and the ability to increase your health, where as the only reason to collect gems on sega was to buy extra lives and continues. Also I know everyone thinks the final boss on the genesis was too easy but I can't beat it even on "practice" mode. Speaking of difficult I agree about the lion king games right at the second level it gets crazy hard, and that's "With" the rewind feature on this release. I feel like I have to rewind like 50 times just trying to catch that damn rhino's tail, even after I realized that I have to aim at the exact position that the tail is in at the time I jump to it. I've only gotten past the old release version twice, then comes the elephant graveyard(also hard even with rewind) compared to Aladdin the difficulty rises much quicker, in fact even the hardest levels of Aladdin are easier for me than that second level of the lion king and that includes the escape
For some reason, the darker color mode on the gameboy advanced version of Aladdin, the darker color mode. Makes it look like the super Nintendo version a little bit.
Wait... game boy Lion king had 6 levels? When I played it I was given four and told “ you win” and then credits.... I’m probably missing something here
You played the easy mode. For some odd ass reason in the 8 bit ports(Including the Sega ones), if you played in cub mode, you couldn't play past the Stampede level. Also the Game Boy version has 9 of the 10 levels, while the NES version only has 6 stopping after "Hakuna Matata".
sega versions of both games and sound effects are better in my opinion. they have better colors and overall better graphics, performance and experience. but if i haven’t the choice of playing both i would go for the sega versions without doubt. i noticed they have also made in DLC more features for Aladdin and the Jungle book game is available now. live these classes and hope they keep them coming. i did also buy Ufouria. very nice game. i did also but Tarzan. but sadly the resolution is very low and can’t be played with a controller since it’s not compatible like the lion king and Aladdin. but as an experience i love playing these old games. maybe because us people that have played as children do like classic games because they bring out memories. and the good old days.
I've always found the Genesis Aladdin to be unremarkable other than the graphics. It has a meandering type of level design style that I've always disliked in games. Also the graphics get in the way of actually being able to accurately discern where you can/should jump. The action, especially the swordplay, doesn't really feel good to me. Also I find the music obnoxious---but it seemed like there were only a handful of composers that could actually make FM synth sound good to my ears. Meanwhile, I think the SNES version is a solid platformer with some interesting mechanics. Fairly easy, sure, but enough of a challenge to keep you engaged. Your mileage may vary, and that's ok.
how do i access all those versions? i press triangle and got only 2 versions of each game (lion King console n & b/w handheld, aladdin console s & b/w handheld) please help :((
I prefer the SNES Aladdin, and the SNES Lion King. I actually don't really get why The Lion King is considered a hard game. I've always kind of breezed through it. Hippos never ever gave me issues. Only level I can think of that was somewhat difficult would be the lava area. As for Aladdin, I don't know why despite playing both, and playing both during the SNES/Genesis era. I always enjoyed the SNES version. It felt more polished? Or perhaps it was just simpler. I think I got lost a lot in the Genesis version. Also I was kind of confused why Aladdin used a sword. He was a street rat, not a swordsman. He ran away from his enemies for the most part, except for a small section of the movie.
@@stevesteve0521 I don't know how it was broken, it worked as intended every time for me. The Genesis was the one that was broken, since it allowed you to completely bypass the hippo platforming section.
The Lion King game isn't THAT hard, but the difficulty curve is non-existent. Stage 2 is either the hardest or the second hardest stage on the game, depending on who you ask. Also it doesn't have infinite continues which make it harder compared to most SNES platformers.
@@19Szabolcs91 I actually think the second stage is one of the easier stages, as it has almost zero challenging or demanding sections in it. It's only real demerit is some beginner traps. Mainly the Ostrich riding section, and the hippo tails are where people mess up at. Hippo tails are completely blown out of porportion though. You can literally not hold a direction and just tap jump and Simba will automatically grab the next tail on a full swing arc. The initial jump the tips of simba's paws are the hit boxes, and it's extremely accurate. (Less accurate on the Genesis version however) Ostrich section you'll probably die on since it's a one hit death, and it's honestly a little confusing mainly the pig under the tree, since if you double jump too soon it kills you. But it's really not that difficult once you realize that, and there isn't any other difficult sections worth noting. Adult Simba past the first stage is where I think the difficulty ramps up. The Underground volcano being my personal pick for hardest stage in the game without question, The second from the last stage isn't too horrible but it feels like an endurance test with crappy fighting controls against the hyena's while mindlessly trying to find the exit through the maze.
@@TheBloodyNights Always fascinating to read how others find something easy to difficult. For me, the first adult stage feels really easy, which makes sense story-wise too, I mean, you are bigger and stronger. Hardest stage in the game is the volcano (stage 8), I gotta agree with that.
Does anyone know what resolution the Full Screen option is on PS4/Xbox/Switch docked? Should use either 3x or 4x integer scaling, so I assume 720p or 960p?
Huh, I thought the Final Cut of the Genesis version was supposed to add new areas too. That's what the CEO of Digital Eclipse said on Twitter. twitter.com/frostman007/status/1166767867313844224?s=19
Thank you for linking this, I'll make a pinned comment & addendum. I wish I could have more to confirm but I can confirm that, level wise, there is one additional Abu bonus level. The new areas may be more subtle within the other levels
I find the Capcom's Alladin way better, but in the end of the day they are 2 completely diferent games. Lion King on the other hand is obviously way superior on the snes, just like every other multiplataform game between these two consoles back in the day, the snes was way more powerfull than the megadrive and the graphic and sound were miles better on the snes.
I really think the SNES versions of Aladdin and the Lion King are the best. Best graphics! Best music! I wish that they made a sequel of the Disney Classics with Aladdin and the Lion King that includes Aladdin: SNES Sega Master System GBA The Lion King: Sega Master System PS1 (Simba's Mighty Adventure) Even a never been seen or released of The Lion King 2 (SNES Version) Including a extra game- Disney Pocahontas on Sega Genesis too.
The Disney Classic Games are on PC! That's why the previous versions were removed from Steam & GoG. The Collection was put up in their place! Sorry I didn't mention that!
4:20 super nintendo thanks for comparing, 4:34 yeah no sword took me time to get used to having that improvement in the final cut version (5:55 I don't think you can jump down stairs). lol genesis does what nintendon't.
