OMG people, what's wrong with you? This course is worth every dollar. Will had put a lot of effort and time and soul into making these videos (as well as all the other free videos on the channel). Don't you think it's kinda fair to say thanks to him with 40 bucks? Plus the course is still available with a $10 discount and you keep whining about the extra $10. Don't be such a cheapass.

have you used python and Node ? would be great to know from a programming point of how does it feel to write code in two different languages - node vs python. Since node is JS primarily is it easy to structure your thoughts while coding in node, ' cause you don't have to think about syntax and Business logic at the same time ? I have heard eclectic views on this topic so people actually preferring two languages as they feel they it keep them thinking server side and client side

This is your latest video so I will write you here. I am working on a startup, and we are working on some scaling stuff. We have managed to increase our traffic capability by 60% and all of that just by watching your videos. As I was watching our brand new servers, working like a charm, I thought - Damn! How much time and energy I would need if I was trying to figure out this on my own. So I don't know how to express my gratitude for every lesson you have taught me, for every single video you have made, and for a lot of "aha" moments. Your content is gold. Thank you sir!

@okbrown
@okbrown 8 лет назад
Nice course, but I have a couple concerns. You tend to have a habit of showing the bad way (bad practice) to do things then show the good way (good practice) or show the good way in your following video without explaining all the time why. Why not just show good practice from the outset, so newbies don't pick up this pattern of programming to begin with? I get they need to know what not to do but why indoctrinate them this way, it makes no sense to me and it makes for a longer experience as well. Also another concern is that why do you mix your routes with your controllers and with your DB logic? That is also bad practice and should that be taught to newbies? And my last question, would of liked to have seen some authentication on the REST API it self as well. However if I missed anything or I am wrong then my sincere apologies.
@learncodeacademy
@learncodeacademy 8 лет назад
Hey Orlando, thanks for those concerns. My biggest goal when breaking stuff into steps is comprehension...people really feeling like they "get" why stuff is the way it is. So with Express, for example, I'll start off with the bare-minimum code leaving out things like error-handling, breaking out routes into their own files, etc. So people "get" that Express is a simple piece. Then, all the error handling and the best-practices get added in on the next layer. The reason routes and DB logic aren't broken out is that more often than not, they are just fine staying in. Node.js apps are usually so simple that you often don't need the 1/2 dozen layers of abstraction to keep code clean. You can put the code where it first makes sense, and only break it out if things start getting more complicated. I hope that makes sense. I always fight between more-detail-more-information and less-detail-better-clearer/simpler-understanding. I usually lean towards the later of the 2, since there are countless blog posts and resources that can help people tune the finer points of developing in Node.

Sorry for the delay. It starts off with node basics, then moves to web apps using Express. However, the nature of Node is REALLY modular, so MOST of what you learn with Express isn't specific to Express...the principles can be used with Hapi, Koa, Connect, etc.

what's the difference between fronend and backend developer?
@learncodeacademy
@learncodeacademy 8 лет назад
Frontend codes HTML + CSS + JS that runs in the browser, so frontend is everything the user interacts with. Backend runs on servers and can be in any language - in the case of Node.js - javascript. Server can do a lot of things that the browser can't like access databases, send emails, check usernames/passwords, etc.
@suprabond
@suprabond 8 лет назад
Frontend is basically what you can see when you open a website, like HTML, CSS and JavaScript; it's the client side. Backend is what you (the final user) can't see; the programming that happens on the server, like Node.js, PHP, Java etc; it's the server side. The client (or user) only gets the files that were already processed into HTML (etc) by those languages. So the difference between those developers: - the programming languages they use - the side of the process they work (client side / server side) - the focus; for example: On frontend they have to worry about design, usability, apearence etc; On backend: performance, algorithm, business rules etc

Did the community page ever happen? I have to write out the node_modules/.bin/nodemon path to get the call to work.

Is Discount still Valid ?

I already priced it a lot lower than similar courses (most go for $60-80 or even into the hundreds). The $20 was for that crazy group of people who I've noticed watch every video within a day or two. I can get you a $10 off, with this link, though! gum.co/iqGFt/tenoff

Hey Will! Just bought this tutorial, I am sure that I'll learn a lot from it. This is actually the first one that I payed for, but twenty bucks compared to how much I've learned from all your courses is more than a nice deal. I've been watching your videos for over a year now and I like them all. Thanks man, keep up the good work and your attitude towards what you're doing. :) Cheers, Dani

Will the deployment part cover Docker?
@learncodeacademy
@learncodeacademy 8 лет назад
No, it really was beyond the scope of Node.js tutorials to try to cover Docker. Although, I do go extremely into detail with Docker deployment using Node.js in my Docker Course shop.oreilly.com/product/0636920051343.do

Thanks for answering man. I bought this course as soon as I saw it in my feed. I'll buy anything of yours after that Web Development in 2016 video. Marvelous! :)

It certainly covers much more than I knew when I first started coding for my first Node.js job.
