I never thought I would be interested in CrossFit, but one day I found myself in a CrossFit Gym giving it a shot. Little did I know, this would be the start of an insane journey that would take me from a beginner at age 38 to a 3-time Crossfit Games champion at age 47. In this video, I'll share my story of how I fell in love with CrossFit and the transformation it has brought about in my life. From struggling to complete a few burpees to becoming a dominant Masters Athlete, CrossFit has changed my body and my mindset in ways that I never could have imagined. Whether you're a seasoned pro or just starting out, I hope my story inspires you to go all in on something for yourself.

Hey Jason, I’m 38 and just began my CrossFit journey at the beginning of November. I was immediately addicted and going almost everyday. Yup, I injured my knee and took 9 days off; which killed me. But, that taught me a valuable lesson. Thanks for all the great content, you should be proud of all you’ve accomplished.

Jason, 39 here and I've been into Crossfit for almost 4 years now, just took a month break due to surgery. Now I am getting back on track feeling hungry to go back in the gym and continue my work getting better at this craft I really love. Mastering all those skills, implementing new moves into my training - this is a lifelong journey indeed. Enjoying working hard, getting strong and fast. Maybe someday I will go to the Crossfit Games as a masters athlete. Men like you inspire to push and pull.

Interesting. I started CrossFit at 68. My wife (67) and son (34) have been doing it for a while and been trying to get me to try it too. Stopped going to my gym when COVID hit, retired, had shoulder and biceps surgery, and once I recovered working out at home (KB and TRX) wasn’t really working for me. Resisted it because of strength and conditioning coaches I listen to even though I have be following since pretty much the start of CF - 2006 or 2008 maybe, don’t remember now. Finally started at my wife’s box (CrossFit Eagle Alley, Manassas VA) Oct ‘22. I would have said many of the same things you did. Hard but rewarding. Pretty much all the women kick my ass, let alone the guys, but I am improving. Some things I have serious doubts that I’ll ever do (walking on my hands?), nor do I think CF will become my primary (I’m a rower at heart) but wish I had started sooner. Follow your channel, learn a lot from you, and I think your comments about progressing from your start make a lot of sense. I’m sort of doing that now, could do better and will show this/talk to my coach. Also as master athletes (I use that term loosely in my case), we have to manage our egos. Will be interested to see where I am at the end of a year. Again, appreciate your channel. Please keep it going.

you are such an inspiration, started crossfit with 34 and I felt bad at the beggining since everybody was so good and I lacked at so many things, but consistence make things happen 9 months later I already improved so much, probably I will compete this year for the 1st time, but even if I never get competitive I love being able to do the crossfit workouts, hope to get at your age keeping this entusiasm for the sport.

Thanks for this insight, Jason. I just started CrossFit in November 2022 (I am 48) and like you I ran prior. I still plan on doing a half in May, but now I do CrossFit 4 days a week and Run 1 day. I find I get the aerobic fitness I need from CrossFit, and I just need to keep my legs in check with running 1 day a week. I enjoy your videos, thank you for sharing them. I am hopefully my story will mirrors yours and in 6 months a year, I see some big changes! 🥰

So great! As May gets closer you could always adjust the schedule if you find you need a bit more time running to prepare, but I agree that CrossFit did/does amazing things for my aerobic fitness!

I've trained on and off most of my life, when I say on and off, the most consistent I've ever been is 3 days a week for about 3 weeks then fell off. I'm really going for it this time starting with Stronglifts 5x5 (for strength gains) paired with a body weight or machine WOD like Cindy or Fran or just rowing with burpies for conditioning. I am 39 and would love to be where you are.

Hi Jason. I still love your videos, cause off the motivational aspect and especially your way off doing/seeing things.(, I kinda found a training routine, - which still needs improvement) - but I need less motivation. I'm doing my stuff at my speed/skills... Etc. (hope you get what I mean😬😊). In one comment/reply ro me, you told me to tell about my journey...here it is: I'm in my seventh month in a box with regular training I registered for the open this year😊. I'm aware I still have a lot to learn, but I need to know where I stand compared to other athletes in my age group. (55 - 59)..I'm looking forward competing but I'm also nervous😂😅. Thanks for sharing your skills, tricks and knowledge. Good luck at the games💪

Hey Jason, Love all your videos! I have followed you for a while now and was wondering how come you track your stats on both a garmin and whoop? Do you prefer one above the other? And are you sponsered by any of them? Cheers from Denmark. 💪

Very inspired Jason! I’m 33, been doing CrossFit for about 6 years now but this last year is when I finally got serious. I did my first RX local comp and got addicted. Now my goal is to qualify for semifinals as a master in a couple years, any suggestions?
@JasonGrubb
@JasonGrubb Год назад
Dude. Congrats! Yes - my advice... 1. dial in your nutrition and sleep. Those are foundational. 2. Get involved in community of competitive masters athletes (locally or online). 3. Follow a good training program designed for master's athletes (i.e. Mayhem 35-44 masters programming). That will get you there dude. I can help you with all three if you'd like. I have nutrition coaching and an online community ready for ya if you're interested. I have a discount code for Mayhem as well.

@@JasonGrubb 1. Sleep is my biggest fail right now, I’m a dad of 3 and a business owner, I get 6 hours of sleep if I’m lucky. Any pointers on sleep? 2. I was involved with some invictus masters athletes when I was at Invictus San Diego but that location closed down and the gym I’m at now has no masters athletes. What master’s community is there online? 3. I am currently doing Mayhems programming. Would you say to get started on the master program now or should I stick to the regular competition programming if my body can still handle the volume?
