Max’s time at Texas A&M has been unfortunate and unlucky to say the least. Weigman came in as the hotshot 5 star QB and once he got in vs. ole miss he kind of took the starting job and hasn’t looked back. His ceiling is higher and he’s a more mobile and dynamic QB, plus he’s got that Johnny manziel type swagger without being over the top crazy/trashy. However, with max as a backup a&m certainly has a case for the best 2 deep QB room in the SEC this season.
Close. He left right after BK got here (they had a one on one meeting) but before Daniels came in. But your point that he quit on the team is accurate. Geaux Tigers
You're a dimwit. Nonetheless, Max Johnson at LSU, threw 27 TD passes in 12 games, compared to Jayden Daniels measly piss poor 17 TD passes in 14 games with the best WR room in the SEC and an excellent OL. Also, Max Johnson did that at LSU without setting a new all time LSU record like Jayden Daniels did by incurring 43 drive killing sacks because he was so indecisive in the pocket. In fact, in four years of being a starting QB in college football, Jayden Daniels still to this day has never ever surpassed his very mediocre true freshman stats from when he was at Arizona State. Not even at Arizona State and not at LSU. As Daniels four year unbroken streak of mediocrity is pretty damn amazing. Man....LSU would have been far better off last season with Max Johnson as the starter at QB, instead of Jayden Daniels. However, Nuss is far better than both of them.
As an A&M fan, I love having max on the team whether he’s starting or not. All players say about him is how much of a leader and good locker room guy he is, and how hard his work ethic is. Frankly after Connor Weigman stepped in last year and lit it up we all knew he was gonna be the starter in the future (especially with how Petrino loves to use his QB’s in the run game and how much more mobile weigman is than Johnson) but having Johnson gives us the best 2 deep QB room in the entire SEC imo. Love my left handed brother, and if he ends up transferring I wish him the best.
Although an LSU fan I will say we do have one of the top 3 QB rooms! Texas, and Georgia ( although inexperienced) might have better, but no doubt about it we're definitely top 3 if not number 1.
He was not benched by 2 SEC programs. So far he hasn’t even been benched at one. Johnson was a starter at LSU and then transferred because his head coach was fired. At A&M he did not win the starting job initially over the incumbent starter Haynes King, but inevitably won starting honors, which he kept until he suffered a season ending injury. This year, everybody believes that Conner Weigman starting is a forgone conclusion, but in reality the race is much closer according to insiders in the program. Max is a legit SEC caliber quarterback, but weigman is a special talent with a higher ceiling.
Max threw for 27 TDs with only 6 INTs during his time at LSU and didn't lose a single game he started and ended while at A&M. If anyone thinks Max Johnson is a bad QB they don't know ball.
He may be a QB and a football player, but he is also so much more! He’s a strong character kid! He’s part of the solution in the locker room and not part of the problem! This young man is going to be fine in life, wherever he finds himself! He’s a solid human being!
@@ScottFisherCFByep. Garret is loyal. He had the chance to jump in the portal and have a starting position somewhere. But he stayed. And because of that he has my respect
@robertwoodworth7819 counterpoint: Max Johnson is the ONLY reason LSU beat A&M in 2021. If you point out the lows you have to point out the highs too.
@ace-man5863 The defense holding TAMU to 296 yds total offense had just as much to do with that win as one long hail mary pass. The kid had some good games in a Tiger uniform, no doubt. I hated to see him leave, but considering the fact that he did leave......screw him, not a very big loss in all honesty. It all worked out for the best for LSU, but was the worst mistake he ever made concerning his career. Had he stayed, he would have started last year as the starter and developed more, but he didn't want to compete, so let him sit the bench at College Station and watch as whats left of his career dwindles away.
Too bad you are either clueless or didn't do any research. Johnson was never benched at Texas A&M. He was INJURED AND UNABLE TO PLAY THE REST OF THE SEASON!
He should do the Burrow thing. Transfer to a school that needs you. But he received poor raining at lSU, missing open receivers and he rarely ran as he did as a freshman
LSU fan here - Max left LSU long before Daniels transferred in. IMO, Max didn't like Kelly. There's a pretty famous picture of Brian Kelly addressing the entire team when he first arrived, and Max looked pissed.
@@MultiKool13 Before he fully took over, but not before he was announced as the new coach and made a visit. Kelly was hired the end of November, Max hit the portal a week or so into December.
Learn your content ….. was not benched at either school. Left LSU after starting through end of the season . Started the season at A&M as backup , but came in to lead the Ags to wins against Miami and Arkansas . In the Miss St game , he suffered a broken thumb , that ended his season . Battling Connor Weigman this fall for starting position ( I think Connor will be starter ) , but he will play and in the SEC you better have 2 good QB’s ….. at least.
If he could have avoided injury, he would have led to a good, not great, season. His injury allowed Weigman to play. Weigman has more upside and will get first chance at quarterback this season.
No.. Lsu Hired a new coach who told him he had to compete for the job and it wasn't just his.. and he went to the portal thinking he would just start at another school in the sec and realized he was wrong..
Lack of arm strength and ability to complete passes down field. He was good with short and alright with intermediate routes, but SUCKED on long throws. He couldnt read defenses for shit either and held on to the ball because he had no ability to anticipate routes.
