This is a video I recorded last year with Jim Roberts. Jim tells his story of how he left the Roman Catholic Church to become a Confessional Lutheran.

You need to amass the stories of many of us who came out of other denominations/religions into Confessional Lutheranism. You'd find some great stories to tell.

And you will seek Me and find Me when you search for Me with all your heart. -Jeremiah 29:13 “For God so loved the world, that He gave His only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him will not perish, but have eternal life. - John 3:16 Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out. - Acts 3:19 If you’re in North America, please go check out any of the churches available to you: PCA, OPC, Rpcna/Rpc, Urcna, or a canrc church (These are conservative and actual Presbyterian churches) If you can’t find one of the conservative presby churches then, maybe a Lcms Lutheran church. If you are Scottish, I recommend the Free Church of Scotland and the APC. (Different from the Church of Scotland) If you’re English I recommend the Free Church of England (Different from the Church of England) Also online you can look up church finders for each of the groups, it will show you locations.

Me too. I grew up a rather devout Catholic. I was then education at an ELCA liberal arts college, and found the LCMS through the oddest of means - followed my wife to the other side of the US, went church shopping for ELCA, and found an LCMS pastor at that church instead. I hosted him for his colloquy while taking greek at STL. One of the biggest influences for me in returning to true Lutheranism is their Biblical confession of Creation.

The struggle I have with confessional Lutheranism is the matter of Law & Gospel approach. Throughout the thread of scripture God never or at least most usually never, uses the law first then the Gospel when dealing with His wayward people. Read even the Ten Commandments and look at how it starts. He starts with v.1-2. There’s only Gospel there then His will for us is laid out.

Can someone explain to me the Athanasian creed please? I think the word Catholic and that the Roman Catholic Church agrees with this is what I am having issues with. I am not trying to be derogatory with my question but I am truly needing explanation. Thank you
@thewartburgcastle1326
@thewartburgcastle1326 2 года назад
“Catholic” in that creed means “universal,” so it’s not a direct reference to the (Roman) Catholic Church.
@GratefulGma08
@GratefulGma08 2 года назад
@@thewartburgcastle1326 , yes, I just never understood why we don’t say universal because I have some issues with Catholicism and just can’t bring myself to say that. And if Catholicism is a part of the “universal “ church, then I don’t think I can agree with it. Thank you so much for your response and for your videos. God bless. 😊

if the bishop would have actually read my letter, he would have quickly realized that I had catechized myself evangelical and would have possibly excommunicated me. But of course, the Roman church never took what the kids were doing seriously, so now look at 'em.

With respect, this interviewer did a poor job in this colloquy. He was steering the conversation instead of letting Jim tell his story. The interviewer's role, particularly when the person interviewed is sharing a personal story, is to ask questions to flesh out the narrative, not direct the conversation. Interviewing requires skill and at best is an art, and here the interviewer unfortunately didn't demonstrate the necessary skills.

It doesn't seem that different from the Roman Catholic Church. So you still believe in transubstantiation? And you confess your sins to the pastor on Sunday - but collectively. The only difference seems to be that you now believe in salvation by grace - well that is one step up I suppose.

Lutherans don't try to explain the real presence of Christ in the Eucharist. We simply believe when Jesus said, "This is my Body; this is my Blood." We don't try to figure it out. We simply believe the words of our Lord. A great mystery.

I would like one of you to address Martin Luther's antisemitism please.
@thewartburgcastle1326
@thewartburgcastle1326 2 года назад
Martin Luther wrote some terrible antisemitic things late in his life. Lutherans universally condemn those things. The Book of Concord was compiled decades after he was dead, and much of its contents were written by men other than him. There is no racism in our confessions. All of this is known and public information for hundreds of years. It seems that some people want to discredit Lutheran theology by bringing up a topic unrelated to actual Lutheran theology, so I hope you’re asking for genuine reasons and not trying to do a “gotcha” kind of thing (I’ve gotten a few of those recently).
@theresa4554
@theresa4554 2 года назад
@@thewartburgcastle1326 no, I'm not trying to do a "gotcha" thing. Doctrine matters as you, yourself, know, and many churches today are denying doctrines that are clearly presented in the Bible. For example, the church replaces Israel or "replacement theology" which is clearly the opposite of Biblical doctrine. (Romans 11).
@bigniftydude
@bigniftydude 7 месяцев назад
@@theresa4554racism is pernicious and none of us are immune to it. We don't think Luther was a saint or inspired. Just a sinner and follower of Christ who told the truth at a time on his life
@xnihilo1044
@xnihilo1044 6 месяцев назад
For one thing, antisemitism (racism) wasn't like it is today. Luther was hopeful that his writings would be embraced by the Jewish people of his time. Unfortunately, they weren't receptive and that upset him. Also for what it's worth, Luther was a typical loud-mouth opinionated German (like me) who didn't mind stepping on anyone's toes. He had no problem slamming anyone. Look at what he wrote about others and you'll see. No one was exempt from his rants.
