My Italian grandmother made these for my coal miner granddad in Kingwood, WV. Always wondered why I couldn’t find them outside the state. I will try this recipe for sure! Instead of cheese might add sliced pepperoncini peppers for a little heat. Thanks
I’ll send you recipe to my daughter who moved to Virginia Beach. And I’ll ttty your recipe using pizzza flour rather than than AP flour. Pepperoni Rolls are very popular in SW PA. I guess their popularity migrated up from WV. :). Thanks!
I grew up eating these. It wasn't until I left W.V. that I realized the history of the pepperoni rolls. I can't find them so when I do make it back home I load up .
How do you make these if you dont have a Kitchen Aid Mixer? I know that probably sounds stupid but all I have is a Hand Mixer or Just my hand ..lol...also, there is a little restaurant called either Oliverio's or Collisessano's that make their own sweet peppers!❤ (they arent hot at all, just sweet mild peppers) Can you tell me how to make those?? And 1 mre thing...lol...Do you have a recipe for Steak and Cheese Hoagies w/ those sweet peppers? Thank you so much! I was born in Fairmont and have family from Mannington (Smith's) to Shinnston (Tonkery's and Williams) as well as from Farmington to Morgantown, and everything in between😁🤭 We moved down to SC and we have nothing like these places down here but would love to be able to make them for everybody here😊❤ Thank you again!!❤🙏❤
A few questions: 1) 4 oz or half a stick of butter? Half a stick is 2 oz. Looks like you use a whole stick here. Guessing there's a difference between 2 and 4 ounces. 2) 1 1/2 teaspoons or 1/2 teaspoon of salt? 3) Did you add any flour from your standby to the mixture? Hard to believe that came together without some standby flour. I had to use around 5 cups of flour. Total weight was just under 45 ounces or around 3.75 oz per roll. 4) Any hints on the secret topping? I'm going to guess butter, garlic powder, parmesan, maybe some salt. It looks great! I'm jealous of your stand mixer! Actually making these right now.
