Really liked your crows in the sketchbook I am a fan of all your crow paintings. The aubergine that Jill suggested really popped with the other colours. Was a brave choice to give it a go. Love the idea of a FB group. See you next week
The crow painting is looking so exciting and full of possibilities. I feel a series coming on!! Thanks, Gaynor for taking us along with you in your creative explorations. Have an awesome creative week ahead!!
Hi Gaynor, I am an abstract artist in Hampshire and love to see your videos, can't wait for Thursday to arrive. I also love sketchbooks as a way to explore and also love crows!!!! thank you so much for all you share and your wonderful joy and enthusiasm is so contagious. Im just about to start a garage conversion to a studio and have gained many ideas from looking at your beautiful bright space. Would love an online group, I do belong to a couple already and they are great place for being among like minded artists who share work and ideas and support each other so would be great if you did that.
Hello Amanda, Loved reading your comment. I can only imagine your excitement at transforming a garage into a studio 🎉Thank you for watching and taking time to share. 🥰
OMG! Crows in Bexhill! I grew up around there and regularly visit my parents there. I will look out for a group of crows (a murder of crows) and will always think of this video now! 😂
Absolutely love all the COLOURS this week 😍😍 Glad you found the crows in France. "I've never seen a crow in a painting before" made me LOL. 🤣Excited to see crow-bird landing (😉) on the canvas board... big treat to get to see so much action and movement on lovely paintings this week 🧡🧡
Hello Lauren.....I did laugh myself, I should have qualified that statement with 'never seen a crow in one of my paintings' 😂😂😂Lovely to see your comment 😍❤😍
You are so brave to work on a painting that is already framed! I would probably just make a mess of it. Count me in on a sketch book sharing FB group. I agree that a private group is best. Thank you for all that you share.
Hello Michele, I try to be really careful and tell myself every time to take the painting out of the frame - but I'm TOO impatient and the frames usually do have to be repainted !!!! 🥰Have a lovely week
Dear Gaynor, thank you for your inspirational videos. Your words and creativity have boosted my own, reminding me of what I had forgotten. And infused new life into my everyday practice. I’ve been working on and off in sketch books since the early 1990’s. One of my projects now is to create paintings on the covers of 20 hard covered past sketch books. I’m so enjoying your weekly videos and your unique style.
The Facebook idea would be great ,keep me posted. I think it would bring us all closer and help cheer each other on with our projects. I know I would love to get some different takes on how to keep motivated. Thanks again for another great video .
Absolutely love your videos, Gaynor!! I’ve learned so much and I thank you for sharing your experience and techniques (and spontaneity 😊). I’m watching every week from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦
Love the progress and the new additions! Following Jill's advice made that floral really pop! FYI - In the US the equivalent of HomeSense is Home Goods. In Canada we also have HomeSense and rather than TJ or TX Max we have Winners.... all part of the same TJMax global family. Incidentally I always check their art supplies and have come away with some fantastic finds that I would have spent hours trying to find online or in a local art shop. Be well Gaynor!
Hello Gaynor. Lovely to see another video. Everything you do seems to give me permission to just go for it……then the self doubt kicks in. You have said you are aware of such feelings…. How do you find the confidence to not only do it, but put yourself out there and do it publicly? I am truly in awe. The group sounds good, but the putting out there doesn’t🤦🏻♀️. Have a lovely week💐
Hello Fiona.....where to begin !!! I remember nearly having a breakdown when a friend put photographs on Facebook ! People like Brene Brown say all the things I need to hear. It is ok to be vulnerable. I spent years trying to 'fit in' but never did, I spent years worrying about what people might say or think and now I don't - something snapped and I just wanted to try being myself ! Who knew that the most support and encouragement I have ever had has come from RU-vid and lovely people like you 🥰
Twitter is best...never facebook for me. Study up on it! Found crows interesting years ago on Vaca in Colorado. Still have them in the pictures in my mind... coats were so shiny.
Hi Gaynor, I'm late to the party today, travelling back home from hols etc etc interrupted my Thursday viewing last week. Love your crows especially the sketchbook ones, I really like your tip of not wasting paint and scraping it onto a board, I have never thought of doing that it's a brilliant idea and I will definitely be doing this, looking forward to tomorrows video.
Magpies. one of my favourite birds. I have sketched every which way. i can draw them from memory, so that even if they fly away I have them. Keeping your own scrap book on birds, with photos, copied other peoples sketches builds up your own memory of bird anatomy. Just remember the basic pose, then reference the markings on the front or back. Tiny details are rarely needed, like eyelashes, but this is where the close up photos are handy.
Hello Gary, Fantastic to read your comment, you are clearly way ahead when it comes to sketching birds - I will keep going, thank you for good advice 😊
Hello Catrina, I will use a top coat of matt or gloss medium and the great thing is that although they seal, you can go over the top, you can lightly rub back to remove the top coat altogether. I haven't used a varnish or wax top coat, things to try, for sure. 😊
Sometimes I think Canada geese are our (Canada's) biggest export - though not necessarily the best! I love your crow- I think crows make fascinating art subjects. Did you ever get a Facebook going? That would be such fun. And yes, aubergine - great colour!
Hello Susan, I have a selection of A4 Sketchbooks. I Love the Canson but this is not always available in the UK. I'd suggest going for the best paper quality, something that can take mixed media well. XX
Hello and welcome Jane, I do forget that new viewers might not be up to speed with what's been going on ! Jill suggested the colour Aubergine.....the painting has appeared a few times in previous videos, with other colours ! 😀
Lovely paintings! ❤ ❤️ ❤️ Gaynor, will you be at your SEOS open studios venue at all in June? I would love to say hello 👋 from Bournemouth, LOVE your work! The Facebook group sounds fun too. Your vibe is so great, be lovely to be a part of it. 😊
Hello Teresa, We have a rota and I have a mix of full days (10 - 4 pm) and mornings and afternoon sessions ! I If you know your dates please let me know and I can swap with someone - would love to say hello too ! 😍
Aww the crows so much mystery around them….. I’ve heard they are supposed to be super smart, and the magpies do get a lot of bad press but they are so fascinating too! Another lovely vid today….. the fb page sounds like it could be a fun thing, and like you said if it’s a private page with just your followers it could be really cool….. Rockets looking so swerve with his hair cut haha awww 🫶
Loving crows in your work, what characters they are! FB group sounds great too. I often take photos of the TV, especially when watching old B/W movies, which often have such nostalgic scenes and are already in Notan! :-)
Hello Kathy, good to know you make the most of the TV - I like being able to pause something interesting - it doesn't always go done well though 😂Have a lovely week🥰
Love the birds, we have magpies here in Australia and they walk into the kitchen for something to eat, love them, you have so many great ideas thank you, enjoying my sketch book probably not ready to show anyone at this point, lol. I have been hunting for pens that don’t show through the sketch book pages i believe water based ones are the best but the information is not always on them. Thanks again happy painting.
Hello June, Thank you for watching and leaving a lovely comment. I loved reading about your magpies! Trust me, when you find THE right pen, nothing else matters. Have a lovely week.
It is 35 hours of driving to the nearest Homesense since there is nothing closer than 2,429 miles from here! I loved this! I'm going to have to move my AC unit for the season which means my table has to be moved. I wonder if there is a different angle for it! I love your Canada Geese!!! I never see the babies but I hear and see them flying over almost daily this time of year. I'm enjoying watching your older videos, too. I love what you are doing!
