You should do Alexander Moginly next. The first Soviet to defect from Russia that started to Russian surge.

Mogilny defected. Everyone before him like Fetisov paid bribes to their gov't so they could leave.

Peter Stastny was Czechoslovak (Slovak), not Soviet.

Czechoslovakia was a part of the Soviet union, so he was indeed a citizen of the Soviet union. (And there was never a Soviet ethnicity.)

Czechoslovakia wasn't Soviet. While it was behind the Iron Curtain and part of the Warsaw Pact, the first Soviet defector from the Soviet Union was Alexander Mogilny.

Speaking of the great Peter Stastny his son Paul played for the Colorado Avalanche and so did Brandon Gormley, what happened to him?

Czechoslovak Socialist Republic (ČSSR) was not in the Soviet Union- it was in the East Bloc. Don't forget that in the hockey world, the CCCP and ČSSR were arch-rivals!

Very fortunate to have witnessed the Stastny brothers marvelous careers. The Avalanche should retire #26

it's clear that absolutely minimal effort was put into researching this video. I am a huge Peter Stastny fan, but even I couldn't make it past 1/3 of the video. shame

Contrary to popular belief, his #26 was never retired by the Nordiques. The team moved before he retired.

Irony, Wayne Gretzky did not win the Calder because he played "professionally" 1 year prior to his NHL Rookie Season. But Peter Stastny, Sergei Makorov and Artemi Panarin all played "Professionally" prior to their NHL starts. Yes Ray Bourque absolutely earned it in 1980 but come on Gretzky was robbed. Stastny, Makorov and Panarin all did not qualify to win by the same rules they applied to Gretzky in 1980.

wrong for Makarov and Stastny. they were both officially amateurs, before moving to NHL.

I argue as someone that remembers watching him and his brothers play, Clackson, Hunter, Price, Paivement, and Gilis he would have been totally crushed. Undoubtedly talented, don't get me wrong. He was a tough guy and an elite athlete. But during that time you touched a star your ass was beat to a pulp, and you paid a serious price. Quebec was pretty noturious for having fantastic talent on the top 6, and just French-Canadian goons on the 3rd and 4th lines. Nothing against the man, he was and deserves HOF status. The game was different then.

He never defected from the Soviet Union. SMH. He was from Czechoslovakia not the Soviet Union. And you literally mentioned that numerous times. Also, you forget to mention how they were at the Canadian embassy before they left for Quebec. All these aspects of the story are important. If you’re going to relax and tell a story , get your facts straight. Mandblastly, stop calling ghebNHL “the show” you sound ridiculous when you say that and only MLB players call making the majors “The Show” I don’t think I’ve ever heard of a single hockey player refer to the NHL as “The Show”

Nice video... Yet, you shoud set the record straight... Stastny was SLOVAK, not defecting from Soviet Union! If he, indeed, saw this, he would probably punch your nose... Stop putting Soviet influenced countries into the same "bag"... IT OFFENDS US!!!
