In this video I show off a rare nickel plated Mateba 6 Unica Autorevolver chambered in .44 Mag as well as show the basics of a field strip and how to change the barrel. This is a rare and classic firearm that blends a semi-automatic pistol with a revolver. In general the take down is easy and the reassembly is tricky. I hope this video helps someone in the future.

The movable “upper” reduces the recoil felt by the shooter and is an excellent design solution especially for large-caliber versions of this revolver (.454 Casull) . Thank you for your interesting and informative videos as always!

@@thetexasgunvault I have been fascinated with them since I first saw them a good few years back now. With revolvers remaining popular you would think there would be more of a market for the less than conventional but there appears not to be any interest among makers.

You are not missing any pieces, it is the gun frame that is not the type built for the scope mount. The one i refer has a plate in front of the trigger guard with 3 screw holes in it. Check random pictures of Matebas and you will notice those holes

The reason you're having a tough time figuring out the rail has to do with your lower frame. The rail is designed to fit onto a specific unica 6 lower frame that has 3 mounting holes in front of the trigger guard, and it fits towards the rear of the pistol, with the cutouts going over the cylinder. Unfortunately, that rail isn't compatible with that particular version of the lower frame, so you won't be able to use it at all

@@thetexasgunvault As far as I know, it was typically used with the carbine conversion kit, but can be used by itself on the carbine compatible unica frames. I imagine a rail by itself is a fairly rare part, so maybe you can find a collector with a compatible frame but no rail 😉

So, the barrel take down tool is useless?

The barrel take down tool is really only for the flush mount barrels. Those ones have two small holes around the barrel opening, and the tool fits into the barrel and lines up with those two holes. The threaded barrels work with wrenches instead
