Australia's skipper Ricky Ponting celebrated his 100th Test with a century against South Africa at the SCG, becoming the sixth man to score a ton in his 100th match
I don't think there could have been a better number three batsman ever in the modern era. The stats might say something else but the psychological effect Punter had when he came out was amazing. Always planted his front foot forward and got on top of the bowlers. Hardly failed too, other than the blip towards the end of his career. Leg!
@@White742 yes, he lost consistency after that period..... although he did step up for the big games.... if Australia had won the 2011 semi final against India, his hundred would have been one of the best ever. The worst period of his career was the end finally forcing him to retire. Funny how people blame him for playing too long.... Australia had lost many good players after 2006.... Punter had to be there to nurture the team.
The Ashes defeat in 2005 really got to Punter. He started scoring runs like crazy after that. In the 2005/06 season, he made 2 hundreds in a test 3 times!!! All between November '05 and March '06. He made 2 tons in the 'Gabba test vs WI, at the SCG v SA( in his 100th test ) and at Kingsmead, Durban vs SA in March. What a champ. What a leader.
Look at the time he came to the crease. If it's not for his captain's knock Aussies wickets would've been dropped like a sack of potatoes considering proteas scored 451 Punter was a champion player🏆
@@jackogamer340 big games is a completely different thing. Yes he failed in finals but had decent contribution in SF. And there is a difference between having a team full of legends and not to forget the pressure of 1 billion cricket crazy people and 25 million people who barely care about it. Anyways Lara is better than both of them.
@@GauravYadav-bf7qj you said "way better" if you said "better" I would have ignored it, can you understand my point. P.S. Sorry for being so blunt...rude in my 1st reply....1 to many beers
