This one is overheated or at least that's what the charger says. Could it be a bad thermal resistor (thermistor)? Or maybe not! I'm going to tear it down and find out!
I pulled my 7.5A/h pack apart as it would start to charge then stop and the charger would switch off. After pulling it apart I noticed the terminals were really dirty. So I carefully cleaned then and batts looked to be OK so reassembled and now its working perfectly! Thanks for showing me how to get it apart and test.
The one piece of advice I'd give all ego customers is this: register your batteries!! They have a good 3 year warranty if you register them, and they are very good at replacing batteries that have started losing their ability to hold a charge. I just replaced a 2.5ah, a 5ah and a 10ah battery, and all I had to do was call EGO and tell them they weren't holding a charge any more and they sent me three brand new batteries. They would have cost me about $900 or so, so that's a great deal. Now I'm set for at least another 2-3 years, and before the warranty on the new batteries goes out of date, I'll replace those as well. So now I have new batteries and the old ones as backups. REGISTER YOUR EGO EQUIPMENT AND BATTERIES!
Ego just told me they don’t put another 3 year warranty in replacement batteries. The warranty is still only based on your original purchase date. Pretty bummed because my replacement battery just died as well. And they won’t honor the additional 3 year battery warranty
the battery is too expensive to replace over the year it costs much more than the strimmer itself. Not for me unless I know I can rebuild the battery for less by myself.
@@baymaxhero4127 I would have never done it either, it's my wife that is fanatical about warranty registrations, and it's saved our bacon on numerous occasions.
THE BANG TRICK WORKED .SO glad I saw the comments about banging the battery from about a foot off the ground and dropping it. IT WORKED I had THREE bad batteries. ALL THREE have been working GREAT since May and I recharge and use the OFTEN. HOLY GUACAMOLE. Those three bad ones were here for over a year. I bought two news ones for 200 bucks a piece but something told me NOT to throw those bad ones out. THREE bad batteries now working PERFECTLY for five months with CONSTANT charging. I have the lawn mower, leaf blower and snow blower and I use the blower daily and the lawn mower once per week. HUGE area. SO glad I was the comments about BANGING the batteries. THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU
@tonys4396 Are you dropping in a particular side of the battery housing, or flat on the top, flat on the bottom where the charger connects... it's there a specific way?
@@LarryMusgrave One I dropped from waist heighht. straight down. Another I held in hand and smacked against the sidewalk while holding it on the top corner. Just hit it any old way. it worked for three of mine. I wasn't careful because I thought they were going in the garbage,
Dude, the stuff that is encasing the BMS actually comes off fairly easy on some of the batteries. Fuse on the larger batteries are bigger too. Man your vids inspire me to make more vids!
@@vuaeco I have a video from over 5 years ago showing how easy the silicone potting on this BMS is to remove. It was my very first EGO repair video. These 5ah and larger have a temp. monitoring board in the middle of the pack halves with smd transistors. Hope it helps. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-EH0GS0iUzzM.html
@@vuaecosame. I’m working on a 4ah one now and the silicone just won’t come out. It chunks out in little pieces. Took me over an hour to get it only half way uncovered
You explain things really well thank you! P.S. On a crank sensor (red / black / blue wires) how do I check the polarity of the red and black - is it OK to just swap over and see if it works?
Do you mean the cadence sensor for the pedal assist? Usually red is positive 5V (for most sensors), black is ground, and the third wire is variable voltage for sensor. This is exactly the same as the throttle cable. I think you can swap it with a throttle control and it should work but don't blame me if you burn your controller because I've never tried that before. I'm just guessing. :D
Also found out when attempting to replace one of my dead batteries, EGO had the info for the warrenty on file, but because they didn't have a copy of the reciept on the dead one, they would not honor it, even though they acknowledged i purchased it as a new product. They said it was up to me to find my two+ year old receipt. Rethinking about staying with EGO. Really ticked me off.
Yeah they suck. Im staying away from flex bc of my ego warranty BS. Milwaukee honors by mfr date. It also explains their high resell value. Ill stick w ego for yard stuff, but no way im replacing m18 for flex.
same, but I had the receipt in the booklet. I scanned a different receipt from the same store. they had my info on file too. I sent them a picture of the original mower receipt, so hopefully I'm good. 10 days left on my Battery warranty 😱
I am going to guess that the people who hsve had success dropping the battery are just causing the connectors to move slightly and then make a better contact. I hsve tried smacking the battery without luck. Putting them in the refridgetator for a few hours worked once or twice. I had one battery that would not charge, i put it in my blower and tried to start it.. If i could get it to run fot a few seconds , then putting the battery on the charger would give a normal charger However the capacity was nowhere near normal
I have a brand new 5.0 AH Ego battery the board went bad………….The cells are all Ok, I was thinking of attaching that battery to a working 2.5 ah battery; connecting ( Positive & Negative) terminals tapping the two batteries together……That would make the battery 7.5 ah battery, you think the board on that 2.5 ah battery could handle it????????????????
This was a very informative video. Your English is very good, but your accent takes a bit of getting used to. Vietnamese? Anyway, thank you for the video and keep at it!
The batteries are in series. 1st battery (3.3v) contact positive side to negative side of second battery (also 3.3v) will read 6.6v. This is called series connection. Ego use 14 x 4.2v batteries (charged to 4v each) soooooooooo..... 14 x batteries at 4v each. Connected in series 14 x 4 = 56v
I have one of these EGO batteries on my leaf blower. After watching this video, I would not buy another one of these products. What did you decide to do? I assume you tore it apart to use the cells, but these products are so damn expensive to begin with.
I don't have another 5Ah Ego battery so I'll just wait for another dumpster dive and pray to God it has a dead Ego 5Ah battery inside! :D These are good cells so I'm thinking reusing them for my ebike.
Yeah, you can tell these were designed to fail, or at least designed so when (not if) they fail you have to purchase new. I don't play with companies like that.
Registering your batteries will not BE COVERED under warranty UNLESS you bought at their stores they say go to. I have several items they were given to me as a gift and EGO refused to cover under warranty. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE.
DIY Home disassembly of lithium ion battery packs should not be encourage watching videos like this , fire and explosions are danger to others causing injury and deaths.
That's not necessarily true. If you're mechanically inclined, not an idiot, just use some caution and be careful using metal tools around the battery Cells and it can be done safely. The other option is the entire Battery will be put into the landfill
Ur lame! Change a fuel pump,oh god so dangerous. Change a break, oh you could die. Making beer at home with co2, oh you could auffocate. Seriously, all diy is dangerous.
