I've gone back to restoring and riding vintage bikes, they're so much more fun and cost effective than bikes of today, the cranksets of the past were particularly beautiful.

I bought one few days ago for 40€ I cannot believe how well made it is, for example crankset is so well made, and after I polish it, it will be shiny
@99muyfeo

Indeed. But the cranks and other components are heavier, in general. Still, who's racing? I'm an urban rider and my refurbed '79 Centurion Mixte gets me from point A to point B just fine .

I used to have a very similar bike, the Peugeot Oxford, and I loved this bike. I bought it in the early '90s until eventually the frame gave in, that was in 2019. I upgraded it over the decades with new parts but it was always the perfect companion for my commuter and daily shopping rides. Still miss it!

Please keep making videos like this one, I love this style of video, you did a amazing job with that bike, I would Glady own and use it as an everyday commuter bike. It's amazing what some hard work can do, most people would pass on and toss the bike, but that bike will probably last for many years to come.

Do all the peole in Poland have polishing machines? :D Just kidding, well I was avaiting for your new video and naow I am anjoying it. Really thank you for that, for your dedication to the details and commitment to whole project. I perfectly like video without any background music, OK maybe in the intro and outro that will be just as I would like. The tool for headset also can be used for press fit bottom brackets too. I made it for my self from threaded bar, few nuts and couple of washers (small and biger), it don't look fancy but does it's job. I also have headset bearings removal tool which my father in law made for me from inox tube, it works great. And yes really great video in your known style, htank you very much, I really enjoyed watching.

Danny, these videos are all very helpful. As it turns out, I came across a 1986 Specialized Rockhopper this weekend. It's ALL original with Shimano XT Deerhead and in pretty good shape for $60 US. I could not say "no." It needs some general cleanup. The bars have a bit of rust. I need all the instruction I can get.

As someone (amateur DIY bike repair) who had to replace a 21 speed drivetrain AND a 7-speed freewheel hub (two different bikes), I can tell you 7 speeds are not easy to find these days. After having TWO orders cancelled, I had to settle for a Decathlon freewheel hub. No bike shop had it anymore. The 7-speed cassette for the 21-speed drivetrain was not much easier to find; I ended up keeping it and just replacing the sprockets. One other thing I had to keep was the old derailleur: the bike frame (which did not have space for a 8-speed cassette) did not have a place for the derailleur, which is attached directly to the wheel axle (it's also a pain to install, also being a quick-release system). I never found out how to dismantle the derailleur either; thankfully it still works. It was a free bike, so I don't complain, but it's tough to re-install the back wheel anytime something needs to be done. It is still nice to learn stuff to repair bikes however. It takes time, but saves on 25 euro trips to the bike shop (sometimes for repairs of the wrong thing...).

Transformation was incredible!!! I would move the front derailleur closer to the big ring but other than that, it is amazing.

Nice work on the parts. Wish you didn't miss the dust on the brake mounts & brace. Should polish & wax the frame when you stripped off the whole bike. Wax protects the frame & will make it more presentable. I always wax my frame when I rebuild my bikes.

Lovely work. I like that you left the frame with original paint and scratches. I’ve done a few old road and mountain myself and sold them on. I wish I could keep them all. Triple front chainrings are my nemesis though. All the best for Christmas.

Try spray wax on the frame to make it look "newer". Also: Use lighter fluid when putting on the handles. The fluid will evaporate within a minute or so leaving no grease, hair spray or whatever other people are using behind. And please use a torque wrench on the brake bolts ;-)

This is a video made for selling products. I prefer the older videos with proper mtb stuff for devoted mtb riders. Do a comparison for example of the Schwalbe Wicked Will and Vittoria Syerra as a front tyre. We never got your thoughts on the racing ralph/racing ray? Perhaps more thoughts on preparing for a race etc. That's the type of content we're looking for not deals on tools. You've made really good content in the past so please get back on track ;)

Wow wonderful job. I am surprised that buttom nracket was actually whole metal. I do working on one road bike from Peugeot , and buttom braket is actually plastic in while apart from axle and bearing holder. Plastic is now baked into frame and giving me hard time to replace it... I am in process of hacksawing through bits of it... Takes ages.

Not sure if I would use break-cleaner before putting the rimtape in as it is pretty aggressive and can harm the painting inside. Cleaning gasoline should do the trick as well while being cheap as dirt but that will get rid of any grease left. I am always worried about such aggressive stuff and avoid it as possible if something lighter can do the trick. Otherwise a nice video, without music is totally fine. I was experimenting with some background at ~1/3rd of the volume of your voice but that did not change enough to be worth the effort
@mstrshkbrnnn1999

High quality brake clean is perfectly fine. The cheap stuff is typically much harsher and will eat paint. The good stuff, wurth for example, is relatively safe on paint

Cool video, love to watch restorations like this. One comment on the no-music thing: I think is ok, but check the audio in the future, there is a very high pitch noise in the beginning (the wheel cleaning part i think) that kinda bothers. having said that: looks dope! nice work!

The chain seems to be a bit stiff where the pin was taken out and re-pressed in, so I would've pressed the pin back ever so slightly from the opposite side just to ease the friction so that the chain could swivel freely again.

Question, what do you do with the bike after you cleaned it all, and refurbish it all , do you sell them ?? I think it's very good to recycle. But just the way you said "stinky saddle" think you need to throw out the stinky saddle😬😂 Wider wheels , the roads we have here in my town you need wider. My favorite bikes are my vintage 26 inch tires with the wider wheels now.
