Today@Working Horses With Jim, we did some logging with the horses to get some logs to make into a log cabin. Watched the whole journey from trees to the finished product - A log cabin!
Watch our videos to learn about draft horses- horse logging, horses farming, and horse training! Jim uses Belgian, Percheron, and Suffolk horses to do work on the farm and in the woods. He teaches about harnesses, horse-drawn logging and farming equipment, horse feeding and maintenance, and voice commands for horses. New videos uploaded every week. Keep watching to see how Jim trains his new Suffolk Punch colts as he has trained his full-grown teams!

This is such a wonderful and beautiful ending to an awesome video. Gives me ideas for the little cabin that I hope to build down by the creek at the waterfall here. Thanks for sharing!

Enhanced fun. I like that Buck rack too (above the entryway), looks like a nice Mulie. Nice job on the video, the cabins and sawing the logs, nice that you can get 2 building logs per log , then the pile adds up quick, also get some lumber to boot, nice efficient work.. I enjoy building trusses or rafters , it's fun to figure out those angles and watch the building come to life, often times a little differant than what was originally thought, if building on the fly, but that's the fun of it too. Good job.

A couple barred owls, also known as eight note owls for their distinctive call. hoo hoo, hoo hoo, hoo hoo ha hoo. In the owl landing, behind your right shoulder at the 1:44 mark is what appears to be a butternut tree which always has a terminal leaflet while a black walnut sometimes does and sometimes doesn't. Nuts are good to eat but a pain to get the meat out. Do you keep your landings mowed? They should provide insects for the turkey chicks if not mowed too early. If you hunt deer, you could put in some food plots on your landings. Better than letting the trees grow on them. You might "seed" them with white oak trees on the edges for acorns for the deer. Deer might not allow them to get established unless you protect them with clear tubes. If you don't hunt, you could lease the landings to hunters for a little extra income. Some states, like NY carry an exemption of liability for hunters who hunt on your land.

A play house/granny flat like that here in the UK would be thousands of pounds, maybe you should try what our Cornish ancestors did. They build sailing ships on the shores of Prince Edward Island, filled them with lumber for the tin mines here, then sailed them back and sold the lumber and the ship. Love the owls. We are lucky enough to have tawny owls that lull us to sleep before the rooks and seagulls wake us with their raucous calling. Great video again, thank you.

Wonderful video guys. From the woods with the horses to a built house. Get to see your saw in action as well. Always wonder how long a blade would last on those machines? Can you tell me?
@WorkingHorsesWithJim
@WorkingHorsesWithJim 3 года назад
It varies, I saw between 500-1000board feet before the blade needs to be sharpened, and the blades can be resharpened a few times

I have watched other sawmill videos where they had all sorts of problems when the slab is returned and it shoots out at all angles coming back except straight. How do you manage to keep yours coming straight back like that?
@WorkingHorsesWithJim
@WorkingHorsesWithJim 3 года назад
I angled it more than the original set up so it comes back straighter. It is actually set to move it away from the operator originally.Good question!

If you check out OutoftheWoods you can see he got the wind chimes that usually come with the larger LTs and modified them to fit his mill just to correct the crooked backfeed. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-2scpq8Vjo6I.html

Can you make log cabins out of any kind of tree? We have lots of cedar should that be used?? Also, can you put Tamarack in the ground like cedar??

I have a friend who bought 160 acres on a remote part of the municipality. He wanted to build a cabin there. The municipality demands an environmental study first. They found a pair of endangered owls nesting on it. They denied his right to build a home there now. He cannot have a home because of one nesting pair of birds. It’s ridiculous.
