It's actually not that bad as long as the first thing you think in the morning is "I'm going to feel refreshed today!" Instead of "ugh school" I always use new songs I find as my alarm. If you like the song enough, you'll be happy it's the first thing you hear in the morning (:

Same. And everytime it gets to the part where Umi raises the flags, I get chills and it makes me cry happy tears. Never ceases to make me happy in more than one way.
Man, I knew I remembered this voice from somewhere! It's the singer who did Sakamichi no Apollon's version of Lullaby of Birdland! Her voice is awesome, with that whisper-like quality.
This song is the first thing you hear when you watch the movie, it's enough to tell that it's gonna be an amazing movie. Such a sweet melody i really love it.
I wish young people like myself were more like Umi and Shun! Learning simply for the sake of knowledge, respecting our elders, and being active in our communities! But these days, nobody cares or we are not given the opportunity to make a difference. If there are any 12-19 year olds who want this kind of change, like this comment so others see it and let's go make a change in our communities!!
I don't know how old you are, but there's probably still enough time to make a difference. The trick is just to start; help a community, or make your own!
I love this song so much. I first heard it on a Studio Ghibli spotify playlist and immediately fell in love. I never watched the movie, but immediately did after hearing the song. The jazzy upbeat piano and lyrics made the whole opening sequence of simply making breakfast a joy to watch :D

Listening to this makes me feel better. This also inspires me to become a better daughter and student. Thanks to this movie and ghibli studio, I'm getting the hope, inspiration and motivation that I need everytime I feel tired and giving up. Have a nice to day to all of you!
I've probably skipped over five years of breakfast now- I never have time for it, but this movie made me want to grab a pan and attempt to make some eggs on toast haha
In fact, it's not accidental that it sounds like "frying pan". It sounds similar because in Japanese they use a loanword from English for frying pan. Part of the lyrics is "Drop the eggs in a frying pan" - "yaketa FURAIPAN-ni tamago-wo otoshite".
I am japanese and I am very happy to see comment because the japanese people know ghilbi movies when is the kids see and I am happy the others country know ghibli movies and songs I am thankful for netflix hahah
