Thanks for putting the info in a systematic manner. Has made things easier and compact in an otherwise scattered info availability from other sources. So, congrats and thanks. Kindly correct me if I am wrong, in the above video ( USCE section) you stated clerkship and sub internships cannot be taken after Medical school course is complete. My understanding ( till before this video) was that IMGs can undertake what they call 'electives' before completion of medical school. And, clerkships, externships can be undertaken after completion of MBBS. Kindly, also explain what is sub-internship regards

If I want to get into a surgery residency what kind of clerkships should I do? Is research compulsory? Also how tough is it for an IMG to get into Surgery residency? I wish to become Cardiothoracic surgeon. So do you think integrated cardiothoracic residency is better or general surgery and then 2 year cardiothoracic residency? I really want to have a clarity regarding this. I only recently found out your channel. Thank u for speaking about IMG residency and step prep in detail. I would really appreciate it if you could make a video on surgery residency or reply to this comment. Thank you very much!

How are the interviews like? Do the program directors seek them as an opportunity to know about the candidate in general or is another opportunity for them to test your knowledge?
@DrChalla
@DrChalla 4 года назад
In general, once you get an interview, you have already completed the credentials that the program requires. Therefore, most programs don't test your knowledge. Instead they just try to see how compatible you are with the program. They like to attain a general gist of your personality to see if you would be friendly and work well with others in the program. However, this isn't to say that programs don't ask questions. I've had an interview where the program directory asked me medical questions. But this is rare!

Thank you for your awesome videos for IMGs. I am a 2 yr old graduate from Turkey. I am also an American citizen and decided to take the USMLEs and go back to the USA. I quit my job(as an emergency dr) just to be able study for the exams but I am worried that I have almost nothing to put on my Resume( except a month of observership in the States.)and I don’t obviously wanna lose much time before being able to start in a residency program there. but before doing a research or any kind of extracurricular in the States, how can ask to even write LORs for me. so, Im thinking of taking the step1 and 2ck in my country and go to the States to do some kind of research to put into my Resume and then take the step 2Cs and apply for a program( which will still take me a couple of years I guess) do you have any recommendations for me to do at this point or for later on? Also my husband who is a pediatrician here in Turkey, will also apply with me along the way, do you know anything about the couple match? thank you so much DR. Challa.

How would that be possible though if you are enrolled in your native med school. I graduated in feb 2019 and did internship at my medical school associated hospital for 6 months. Recently gave step 1. So would I be able to do clerkships now? Thank you.

Can you please explain clearly about cs exam ? How does it takes place?
@DrChalla
@DrChalla 4 года назад
So Step 2 CS is a clinical live-encounter exam. When I say this, I mean that its a practical where there are 12 patients and you have to take the history of these patients and formulate a differential Diagnosis. It isn't a hard test and people spend anywhere from 1 week to 1 month to prepare for this test. You will need to learn certain generic formats to take a history. Every patient encounter will last around 20 minutes and you will have 6-8 minutes to prepare patient notes. There are 5 testing centers mentioned in the video. It is a pass/fail test and you will be graded on 3 different components. Patient encounter, English proficiency and Clinical knowledge. Don't worry about the knowledge, the cases are relatively basic. If you've done Step 1 or Step 2 ck, the knowledge part of the test won't be a problem at all. You'll just take time to learn the format of the test and the format of history taking

Thanks for the video! Do rank lists require you to pick top 3 or is there enough slots for every program you interviewed at? And also if you apply for IM do you need an LOR from the Head of the department at your med school in that speciality to be one of your 3 LORs or can you use only LORs from US doctors? Thanks!
@DrChalla
@DrChalla 4 года назад
You can rank as many programs as you want in your Rank Order List. You are not limited to any number and you can rank all the programs you got an interview from. When it comes to Letters of recommendations, you should have at least 3. It can be from your country or the United States. In the ERAS system, you can submit as many LORs as you'd like. However, when submitting your application to a program, you can submit a maximum of 4 LORs. The LORs can be from any faculty that you have worked closely with. It would be preferable if the LORs you submit are from United States because it holds a lot more credibility in the eyes of the program director. However, you should still try to obtain 1-2 LORs from your head of department and maybe also another faculty just in case you aren't able to get any LORs from American faculty by the time of submission.
