Nice video! You got off easy with that disconnect coming out of the oil pan so well. These things are often a nightmare! If you take the nut off of the outer tie rod ball joint you won't have to fight with the steering knuckle. As long as the tie rod doesn't get turned it won't affect the alignment. I get to do this job next Saturday.

I actually drove with my shaft out for a few weeks because the bering cage on the cv busted during a hella snow storm. Got under there and cut the boot out of the part in the diff to keep junk out then left the nut on the hub. Just leave the bolted end on. knock out the bering cage with a chisel. Then cap the end the goes into the selector.

extremely helpful video; you showed me that it's not just my CV joint that's bad, but also my front axle disconnect assembly. I was wondering about the play I had and the other trailblazer CV video didn't show play like I had but this one did.

there is no disconnect on the drivers side. there is the cv axel going directly into the differential gears.

the napa cvs are the best bc they are 5 ribbed boots i use a pipe clamp on mine because its less likely to pull the boot off at flex

if you take a long pipe (i actually used a pickle fork) and put it on the bottom of the cv shaft smack it a couple times with a hammer will pop the cv right out.

This is the same job I gotta do too but on both sides the bearings are all shot I was curious on how t hu is was taken out on these types of SUVS GM never made this like this on any other that's very interesting on how they built this like that in this particular model
@w8what575
@w8what575 4 месяца назад
U get the best of both types of passenger vehicles and suvs…..if it’s in 2wd the turning radius is better then a small ca can do and not too bad in awd…4wd it has enough ft lbs of torque at the back wheels it pushes its rear end out and doggy tracks in mud when not applying the gas pedal and just letting it coast…if these things weren’t so damned high maintenance and the parts quality so bad they barely last a year..,I’ve had mine for 7 years…it loves to be worked on and given new parts lol….but the pig has kept me alive when most vehicles would have folded…I just put it back together every time a deer ends itself with my trailblazers front end lol …wish I could find a v8 version!

Everything was well show good job on detail only thing I didn't like about your video is a used a torque stick and you didn't check the lug nuts with a torque wrench this is a big No-No in any shop can never trust torque stick I was always taught in every shop ever been in mechanic trust that torque stick mechanic can't trust but that's just a saying it's not worth the extra two minutes of using a torque wrench the right way besides that everything was very well detailed and well shown

Now see the part he replaced the axle disconnect I just started hearing a metal grinding sound yesterday coming from mine yesterday so I’m sure the gears and bearings are shit in it my quest is tho if I don’t use 4wd will it be ok like is the shaft inside the oil pan connected to that while not in 4wd I don’t have the money to fix this right now and have no choice I gotta use my truck

I got a 2005 trailblazer. I had it for 3 months, then I noticed the upper front ball joint running on the tire. I went to replace it, then after inspecting it, realized this car had no cc axles.. is that normal? It looks like something should go there. But if so, wouldn't the wheel bearings have gone out already?
@daytonleegood1262
@daytonleegood1262 4 года назад
why did you replace this? did you have a code? how do you tell that its not working?
@3434abab
@3434abab 3 года назад
worn gears, failed cv joints or or bad bearings won’t throw a code. each failure has its own sound; whine, clunk, vibration.

Good eye ! I’m sure he had to tear it all apart when that abs light kicked on ! Lol I know some you have to transfer the abs rings from old to new .. But all in a good vid to guide ya through this procedure
@juiced71

I retract my comment! As I started taking mine apart I learned it isn’t like some these ones do not have an abs ring on the cv shaft ... I will say you can get the shaft out with disconnecting the upper control arm the bottom you don’t have to mess with Only saying to help And again this was a really good video it gave me a lot of insight on what’s expected 👍🏻

Could improperly installing a new CV axle cause issues with your 4WD? Last Spring my buddy changed out my drivers side CV axle and it seemed like it clicked in correctly, I was watching him do it. Didn’t try the 4WD until recently and there’s a problem. It engages but makes a loud KINK sound when I drove it down the block slow. It sounded bad so I put it bad in 2WD and curious now if that axle wasn’t installed right. Appreciate any input.

Good video.. you made it look easy to fry out that housing. Anyways, im.working on same trailblazer, I got the axle out, but I have hard time frying off the whole housing disconnect assembly. I took out 4 main bolts that holds it, well in fact I went go ahead and took the last 4 bolts. I still can't fry out the back end, its like stuck there pretty good. Any suggestions of how to get this out? Thanks.
@felixaubert5935

Pry it out. Its pretty much the only way imo
@flyboy2610
@flyboy2610 Год назад
I realize this reply is to a 3 month old comment. But it may help others, and that's the point, right? The disconnect is corrosion bonded to the oil pan. After removing the 4 bolts that hold the disconnect to the oil pan, take a hammer and lightly tap the side of the housing towards the ground. Then tap it the other way. Don not separate the two halves of the disconnect until it is out of the vehicle. Do this 3 or 4 times to break loose the bond. Now try and gently pry it out, just a bit. Once it moves, push it back in, then pry it out a little bit more. Repeat the in and out process until it comes free. Trying to forcibly pry it out will almost always result in the back of the disconnect breaking off in the oil pan. Then you have to pull the intermediate shaft out and cut the broken housing out.Before you install the new unit, put some anti-seize on the back of the housing.

@peteloomis8456
@peteloomis8456 4 года назад
@Busy Worx He is talking about the intermediate driven shaft that goes through the oil pan not the CV axle its self as I assume he has to remove the differential & that intermediate driven shaft has to come out in order to remove the differential !

I need to change the driver's side axle bearing. Is it internal? Do you pull the housing cover and access it or do you have to drop the whole differential?

After watching a few videos I realized the differential has to come all the way out to change the axle bearing on the driver's side. The guy that designed this needs to be fired from GM.
@logintoview2949

I 100% agree. I just pulled both half shafts and pulled the front drive shaft. I don't have the time or patience and I refuse to give in to GM on this one.

The really sad part about pulling that diff out is you gotta take the motor mounts lose and jack up the engine without breaking the throttle body off of it. I saw one video where the guy took the body mount bolts out and jacked the body up far enough for it to come out.

@r0ckymountainhi
@r0ckymountainhi 3 года назад
No, the CV shaft holds the bearing halves together, and the hub from coming out. If you do, hub will come out of the wheel bearing, and the only thing to stop it will be the rotor interfering with the caliper, but you won't be able to move the vehicle without a flatbed from whatever right turn you were trying to make.
