FRONT DOOR MAKEOVER: Painting it BLACK!

After realizing my front door was looking little tired, painted in a dull crimson-ish mauve, I decided to give it a makeover just in time for fall porch decorating!
I had three ideas, so I KNEW it would be an evolving process. The first idea was to paint the door black--TRICORN BLACK--with the side panels and all the trim painted white (Origami White to match the existing trim).
The next idea was to paint the trim white but do the door and both side panels in black.
The third and final idea was to paint the entire thing (trim, doors, panels) all black.
This project ended up spanning a few days due to our busy schedule, but it really didn't take much time at all!
I have plans for a wreath I want to make. Stay tuned! For now, I love pulling into my driveway and checking out my door's new look.

I am just about to paint my own front door black as well. I have a very similar front door with the two side panels, I have just finished painting the side panels was a bit tricky in the corners going black against a white edge. I have been back and forth on removing the door and removing the hardware or just keeping the door on and taping around the hardware. Taped it as best I could. Did you find after you removed the tape the paint around the hardware looked good? Any issues painting with door on hinges vs off on stand of sorts?

I found it was very easy to paint with the door hanging. As for hardware, I taped some off and later ended up very slowly freehanding around other pieces (but I plan to replace my hardware at some point so it was low pressure). I’m still debating going back and painting all the trim black. And I also plan to paint the inside black as well sometime soon. Good luck to you!

Does your door get warped from such a dark color? I want to paint mines black but it it gets exposed to the sun a lot?

Well my door was already warped when we bought the house so it could’ve been due to the sun exposure. I wish I could be more helpful. I’m actually thinking of replacing the door altogether.

did you prime your door first

I didn’t prime because the door already had a good layer of paint on it with no chips or major holes. Many people do suggest priming first but I felt I could skip it (and it still looks great!). If I was going from a light to dark color I would’ve probably primed first. Hope this helps!
