Front Headlock Escape: Recovering After Failed Takedown

A very common, but dangerous position in MMA and wrestling is the front headlock. This position usually happens after a failed takedown attempt or from a snap-down. Coach Bubba Jenkins shares a drill to help recover from this position and get back into the fight.

Good video. I got stuck in front headlock when starting bjj and just tried to continue to drive forward. Starting from your knees really sucks especially as a beginner with small mass.

In my early teens I've been put in head locks arm bars leg holds most of the time will guys stronger bigger and much older scared the s*** out of me as many of times have been passed out felt like my arm or leg would be broken Now in my mid 40s have basic understanding of punching and kicking would it be better to just practice this or still learn how to get out of holds

Well most TKD gyms train bare foot, so no shoes for that. For wrestling or boxing though, I’d say any kind of shoes that go high enough to maintain your ankle well and are quite durable will be good.
