thats how it works at most Martial Arts gyms, atleast where ive been. although i always stay away from the "mainstream" competitive gyms because i feel that the practices there are a bit to "robotic", the last one i practiced at was a Muay thai gym, but the first thing we did when i got there was capoeira drills as warmup and i loved it, now i mix my muay thai with a bit of capoira since one of the trainers did capoeira besides MT. not the flashy flippy stuff though but some of the "easier" kicks can be implemented really well into muay thai and really catches people off guard. im going for MMA or BJJ next i believe though because i have no ground game at all as of now

Because of the nature in a takedown, your only successful moves in stopping all that body weight is shorter lever strikes. They also need to come from the hips and out, not from the chest and down. This basically boils it down to uppercuts, knees and rising elbows. (In a street fight elbow to the back of the head will end it immediately). Most importantly is your stance. The reason strikers will almost always lose to a takedown is because they are bladed. The lead jab will be slipped and your rear hand is far too short to reach your opposite hip. You need to be squared so that your rear hand is closer to strike or simply post on his head. Being squared also opens up your knees/push kick and is easier to sprawl from this position. Lastly, the most effective solution would be to combine the best of both worlds. Master your whizzer and sprawl and strike when you've dismantled the attempt.
@AlexGomez-rn4lj
@AlexGomez-rn4lj 4 года назад
they shoot with their head up and fast/fake if you spawl. A elbow to the back of the head would not solve anything as I will not produce enough power to stabilize the whole force.

@@AlexGomez-rn4lj Truth. It's also easy to miss landing clean and flush when someone is moving that quick and low and is that determined to get on you.
@aiyahuntacheimumbi236
@aiyahuntacheimumbi236 4 года назад
Some of the Best Wrestlers in MMA have said that bladed stances are harder to take down because they initially limit Wrestlers to the single leg and force them to reshoot for a double or body lock. They also claim that the single leg is the easiest Takedown to escape, so I don't think that being Bladed is the reason. I think that panicking in unfamiliar waters and hoping for a one shot flash KO is the biggest reason.
@MrHFam-st4ni
@MrHFam-st4ni 3 года назад
@@aiyahuntacheimumbi236 Well they way I usually think about it when versing other styles is what do they and what situation they needd to do it. Then I find a way to avoid those situations or counter them. Wrestlers often need to go from a clinch to a take down or move in so they can cut the distance. They can also catch the kicks. So when I fight ppl who main take downs, I always try and gauge some distance on them and if they go low, I go low with them so my intercepting strikes can reach them quicker... anyway... that's my take

A BJJ black belt with not so good take downs is less of a worry than a D1 wrestler, especially on concrete cause I could get dropped on my head if I'm not careful. But a black belt is useless if you cant take the other person down. By their black belt, everyone should have decent takedown offense and defense. Even though BJJ is a great skillset to have against wrestlers, it's not end-all be-all. No martial arts is distinctly superior to the other. You get good wrestlers, who know how to chain-wrestle and also keep position then you're fucked. It's dependent on the athlete and their skillset/fight IQ.

Great vid. Love watching elite specialists offering their technical subject matter expertise. Also the commentary, albeit brief, on the different mma meta in ONE where knees to downed opponents are allowed. Hope that lets people think a little differently about that aspect of the ufc ruleset and how much wrestlers benefit from it. Bubba(?) is great. Hope he has a channel for me to subscribe to too

These were some really good insights. These kinds of applications--in the overlaps of the traditional disciplines--these are some of the most interesting things to hear about from experienced mma fighters who have a gift for explanation and analysis like this.

Thats such an awesome team you have amassed shane, some very talented guys all with great personalities too. Looks like it would be just as fun hanging out as it would be training with you all. If you ever do a seminar in the UK im there for sure. Long time fan keep up the good work

So much knowledge shared here. I felt like I got an insight of what different styles are thinking when they fight.

This? Is your best video yet. And that's saying a lot, given the plethora of excellent videos you guys have. We need to see more of the Fight Tips Coaches. And... what are your thoughts on Silva vs Adesanya?

This is such good information, especially as a casual MMA fan that wants to understand a little bit more about what's going on in the octagon.
