Thank you very much man for inviting David, and sharing his insights about Front Lever. If someone wants to learn front lever with just one word, it depends haha. Kidding aside, If you are starting out with Front Lever, Train Tuck Front Lever and when you get to advanced tuck front lever, train half lay or straddle front lever with bands, otherwise if you are on half-lay and you can hold 5 seconds or more, same as mine. My mistake, was I still training Half Lay and strengthening, like even straight to the point what David said, if you want to achieve Full Front Lever, train Full. Again, thank you Frinksmovement, you are so underrated in the Calisthenics community brother. but yes I am sure you will be able to help create world class calisthenics athletes through your videos man. Looking forward to achieve that Full Front lever 10 seconds this December, Let's go!

@ 31:35 I would say majority of people have the same problem I had with front lever in the "core" is the lower back. I had 10 muscle ups but still couldn't hold a front lever because I always felt something was missing in the lower back even with my abs well developed. So like he mentioned in the video his horizontal pulls felt weak as so did mine so I worked on it daily with reps and holds in different tuck or straddle positions. Before you know it boom u have front lever and still doesn't stop there. Now u gotta do front lever pull ups and increase the bar higher for better performance of your front lever.

Thank you guys a lot for answering those confusing question. This is my question: what is the related between the explosive strength and the 1rm strength.
@FrinksmovementTV
@FrinksmovementTV 4 года назад
Thank you for positive words. Well what i can tell you for sure is that the more explosively you can perform movement at given intensity - usually the higher one rep max you gonna have in thisparticular movement. Lets take pullups, if you can do pullup with 20KG very explosively (not using momentum) your 1RM pullup will be higher then person who is less explosive. In temrs of actual training, i always preach striving for fast concentrics for building strength. But i would not say training FOR explosive power is the best way to build up 1RM. Its all about context but I hope my answer is somewhat satisfying. Have a nice day and thank you for engaging once again ;)
@dmolinaro
@dmolinaro 4 года назад
I'll chime in too. I'll def start by saying my knowledge in this regard is very limited, so take this as a stimulus to further open up a conversation, not a definitive answer. Obv in any strength sport speed plays a huge role (at the end of the day what we all do while training is impressing acceleration to a given load), to what extent speed is related with 1rm's that's an actually interesting question. As Eryk already said, in my opinion at least, focusing on speed at 90+% intensity is a slippery slope: if something is heavy you're gonna be slow. That's it. So I much rather focus on tension on heavy sets and moving very precisely through the pattern I want. There are some obvious and famous exceptions in the bodyweight context (namely the muscle up), but that would be my take on the relationship between accelaration and 1rm's more or less. But I think there's so much more to say: westside (possibly the most famous PL gym) uses a program (the conjugate) which is based on the intraweekly alternation of max effort (90+%) and speed work (in which they use chains/bands to shift up the accelaration curve of the lift, arguably making a lifter more "complete" in a sense). It'd be interesting to see the westside style approach adapted to bodyweight (I've never seen it yet), although I don't think is a viable system for bodyweight training for a variety of reasons (simply unpractical for certain skills, hard to reduce the intensity of your own bodyweight to such an extent). But I would love to see someone show me it's doable and actually a good periodization option.

I honestly don’t like GTG style training for anything that has as huge of a CNS stimulus as bodyweight training (or more specifically straight arm skill work). As simplistic as it may seem, I def believe intensity is the primal driver of strength adaptions. And GTG is the exact opposite of enforcing adaption through high intensities. Id simply stick to a classic rep and set scheme increasing throughout the weeks. Again, if GTG was so effective we’d all use it (who doesn’t like to do like 6 little, 5m workouts throughout the day instead of actually having to work your ass off for two hours). Unfortunately what we like and what actually is optimal are two very distinct things.
@FrinksmovementTV
@FrinksmovementTV 4 года назад
I dont have a very strong opinion on this one but the last Davide's sentence is really the essence and filter for all things training/nutrition related. Sounds too good to be true? Probably is not true
@user-nf4qd8wr1u

@@willem-aaronnowe4854 about that i would like to add that greasing the grove works much better for just pull ups than the front lever i always lack in endurance in pull ups so what i did was half reps and after some time i used greasing the grove to get used to proper form again and it works super good but for front lever hold i would sugest dragon pess and of course holds

Well that's exactly the point! Even tough these skills are both pulling and there should be a solid carryover in theory - it still comes down to training the exact thing you want to get better at. Of course there are other factors related to predispositions for certain skills - but that's what Davide emphasized here - You can't predict someones level at certain skill based on performance in other area - and that specificity is king.
