In this video I walk you through the replacement of the front lower control arms for a 2012 Ford Fusion. The procedure is the same for a 2006 - 2012 Ford Fusion and 2006-2012 Mercury Milan and 2006 Mazda 6.

Those inserts were my concern when I tried to replace both control arms on my passenger side so I left it alone. The shop that I get most of my major auto repairs done wanted $1010 to do the job but I bought my own parts for a little over $200. Thanks for the video!

When I had my car supported on jack stands and I was attempting to jack up those lower control arms to preload those lower control arms I couldn't get to the same numbers that was on there in the beginning I was jacking it up and it was coming off of the jack stands it's only like an inch difference I figured once I jacked it up and that strut spring was supporting the vehicle that was just where I needed to be.

I believe that im getting noise from my lower foward arm. Mine is a 2012. 3.0. Only 40k on the odometer. Thanks for this video! It has inspired me to save hundreds of dollars and change it myself. Im also going to change the end links since they are inexpensive.

Love these videos very helpful, all I'll say is those steering knuckle inserts caaaan be trickier, two of mine were forever seized to the original balljoints no amount of effort or anything would make them so much as budge and to place the new ones I had to press them in with a heavy duty balljoint press using lots and lots of pressure so they can potentially be more difficult and you may have to fret a little if they come off, they don't always pop off and slide back in with a few taps lol just had to throw out my experience, thanks for the video huge help!

Dear Sir. Great video. Thank you. What was the reason for replacement? What were the symptoms?

I did both sides on my 2012 plus tie rod ends. Had it aligned. But not when I get the the car up to 70mph there is a now a shake to the car. Any ideas what it could be?

I was afraid you had to lower the sub-frame by just looking a the parts to be removed and sure enough! Manual says to also separate the exhaust flange at the flex pipe but that seems excessive since it only needs to come down about 2 inches to clear those rear arm through bolts.

What size wrench were you using on the back bolt

How much you charge to install them?

Scott, Do you recall what was the reason to replace the control arms?

Was this car a V6? Did you have to lift the engine to get the drivers side lower center arm off?
@BartSparrow123

Center arm? You have 2 lower control arms on this car, front and rearward. You have to lower the subframe a couple inches with a jack to clear the rearward inner bushing through bolts from the car unibody.

Good video Scott. According to the repair manual you were supposed to disconnect the steering column shaft from the shaft-to-dash seal. Did you have to do that?
@ScottsGarage17

No, I did not. I considered it but was able to lower the sub-frame enough to get the arms out and in.

@Scott's Garage I removed the bolt last night and I agree. Although I did actually remove the linkage. 😎

Hey Scott, I have the same issue with the sleeves. I have them separated now but I cannot get them back into the knuckle. Do you have an tips on inserting the sleeves into the knuckle?
@ScottsGarage17
@ScottsGarage17 4 года назад
I would tap them in carefully with a hammer.

Freezer over night, shrink it.

I used s rented heavy duty ball press to put even pressure to press it in and it was the only thing with enough force to do it, hammer wouldn't budge it much and completely fuckered a regular heavy C clamp trying it 😂😂

Let people know you cant use a pickel fork. Cause there is not enough room on the backside and one side of the fork will jamb up between the spindle and ball joint. And you cant get it out.

Okay What are the torque specs you never say that bro.

Would be nice if you shared more step by step instruction in you videos. You skip a couple steps here n there. Even if they are common sense. You get the job done I'll give you that. Maybe start giving torque specs in future videos based on the year n model of the vehicle. Also should use thread locker on certain bolts , and copper anti seize on others. Thanks for the video.
