It is first class. It's very well built. The ties that connect the inside joists to the deck joist blew my mind! I've never seen that before. The choice to use abs plastic on the kick plates is wise. Abs is easy to keep clean, and it stays vibrant white like that pretty much forever... the way he 45 the ends of the deck boards to use another deck board as a end cap is friggin genius! I watch a lot of construction videos and this is definitely top notch build quality. I hope he compacted well under that pad..
Nice job, it looks amazing compared to before. I wish that I would of used the flex tape when I built a 16 by 24 ft. Deck on the back of my house years ago. Thanks for another informative video.!
Watch a lot of porch builders, you are by far the Goat. No short cuts no half ass builds , pure pro. I’m 40 years in carpenter trade, local 13 out of Chicago. Great job
Absolutely BOSS! From the banging soundtrack to the gorgeous deck, and the fact you did this all yourself is a testament to your skill level. 💗 from Wales 🏴
I’ve had a lot of work done on my house but none of them approaches your level of expertise and professionalism. Watching you work was fascinating. You built it to last and your finish work was excellent. And I have horror stories about the work done on my house! Good to know there are people out there who still take pride in their work.
Thanks, Shani! If I ever start working on more than just my house and friends houses I will let everyone here know!! Thanks so much for checking out the video!
😁😁 I believe anyone can do it. Just takes lots of practice. Patience is something you can learn as well but that may be harder for some people and I get it. Everyone has strengths and weaknesses. Thanks for checking out the video!
I was screaming at you in front of my phone when you forgot the vapor barrier! This is awesome! Your porch is built so beautiful, sturdy and strong that an elephant could dance on it. 😜 Now I am hooked on your other projects.
Never fails!!! That's crazy, I remembered when you painted the old steps. The deck looks amazing. Keep it up, adding so much value to your home. Enjoyed every minute!
You were very methodical in selecting the materials used to make your front porch. All of them require little to no maintenance. Smart planning and execution.
I have so much respect and appreciation for your professionalism and doing a project right. Mike Holmes would be proud. Great deck, it looks fantastic. 👍👍💛💚
Amazing work, very detailed and well explained process. Including your mistake and showing how you went about fixing it was a solid integrity move. Loved the content, earned a subscriber!
My dad was a carpenter that could do plumbing and electrical. He always worked for someone else so he couldn't afford to do it but he could have. And when I was growing up every man, even the really dumb ones, could do carpentry so I just thought they all could. I was married to a guy that could not even build a Lincoln log house.
I’ve re done every bathroom in our house , finished the basement, built an office. Etc yes it’s nice saving the money on that but man it takes up a lot of time
After watching this video I have an entirely new understanding of and appreciation for the tireless work, skills, know-how, planning, patience, tools and pure grit that go into something as simple and as taken for granted as a nice set of front stairs with an attractive railing!!! Who knew?!?! My compliments to you, Matt, and to Mrs Fixer for the lovely seasonal finishing touches!
Wow this was awesome! I want a front deck system like this. I did not realize how much work an attention to detail there was. Now I won't squint when someone gives me a quote. But I will make sure they don't cut corner! Lol
just found your channel & i’m inspired to start fixing up my own home now. you make it all look so easy. wish i could hire you to help me with my house for a few weeks here & there. thank you for sharing your projects.
I'm considering copying those shutters for my home! I absolutely love watching folks with woodworking skills and thought as I watched "man he's really making sure this deck stays put for years to come!" I learned a few things that I'll be doing on future projects. I really love the transformation! Great job!!
That really looks classy, Matt. Well done. Very much like what you have done with the front of the house overall. You've given it an inviting, cozy look. Did you ever find time to finish sealing the basement?
Hey, JW. Honestly I haven't done much of anything. As you may have seen, I had to take a step back from RU-vid but I am ramping back up. Stay tuned, I have lot's of great stuff planned for the rest of the year and into the next! Thanks for watching the video!!
Very nice!! My godson and I have been binge watching your videos since the Summer...this is his last apprenticeship year in construction and he's so excited. You're such a positive motivating force...and overall great video mentor.🔨🛠️📏🧰📝 Keep up the inspiration!! Stay true to your calling🤗...Keep on sharing... Keep on inspiring!
I've been waiting for this one since you painted the old steps and it did not disappoint! I love the look. It just adds so much to the front of the house.
That turned out absolutely beautiful! One thing is for sure that front porch/deck is going nowhere! You Sir are one multi skilled Master Craftsman! Too bad you can't be cloned!😁

As much work as this was, I'm kinda surprised you didn't make it a couple feet wider so you could put up chairs on that porch! Regardless, this looks lightyears beyond what it used to. Great work!
Good evening. I just came across your video and it totally captures exactly what I am trying to do to my home. Question. I absolutely love that siding color. What type of Siding and color is it?? Your help is appreciated so much
It looks amazing! I really appreciate these time lapses and information. Instead of saying I wish my husband could do this, you really inspire ME to wanna be able to accomplish things like this one day! How long did this whole project take?
Haha yes! I knew that would bother some people. It bothered me after realizing i didn’t film removing it. I might make a dedicated video about removing stickers like that, I have no idea why they put them on a surface that might be seen! Put the tag on the side with a staple, like a 2x4 has. Anyway, yes, a little goof off and it was gone! Thanks for checking out the video!
WOW..........Wish all contractors produced this type of quality in their work, worth it's weight in Gold............Won't mind paying the extra dollars...........
Your deck is beautiful! I have watched so many of your videos, they are all very educational! Thank you for sharing your home renovation! I enjoy watching them all!
That front stairway is a masterpiece of strength & beauty ... fantastic job. I have almost identical front steps of concrete. Considering covering the concrete with treated frame and Trex steps. I'm too old to break up the old concrete. Figured on building a stairway over & around them so they will be a strong base but never again seen. lol
Love the idea! I considered it with this but was a little worried about the potential rot against the house if I didn't chip it out and fix what was there. Probably would have been fine but oh well haha. Thanks for watching and for the awesome feedback! Good luck with your project!
Greetings..wow! Beautiful love it. This is something I've been wanting to do on my home, didn't know his much work it goes into this. Thank you for sharing.
Wow this is such a great video, simple, clean production, great music. Music really helps the positive vibe going on in this video. I really appreciate you taking the time to share this project with us, a huge Thank You Matt!
Awesome work …… You accomplished a Complete dismantle and rebuild. I enjoyed every minute of your video. Your attention to detail is superior ! ! ! Thanks for sharing this with us.
Talk about adding curb appeal (literally at the curb) … the house looked fresh and lovely before, but that deck put it way over the top. If this isn’t YOUR home, kudos to you for taking the time and doing all that extra to ensure that this lovely porch outlasts us all. Best is - it’s maintenance free
I'm building mine with lights with it... So, it can look during the daytime look great... but, at night, looks awesome!!!!.. Awesome job dude.(Matt).... Very impressed...
It did need a better front for sure, and you fixed it! Wow! The work is unbelievable, but the results made for a very welcoming entrance! Congratulations! You are fantastic! 💛
Fantastic job, I have the same ugly steps in front of my house and am having the same deck built with composite boards. They are building over the old steps since they have sunk into the ground. I am 70 yrs old and love your videos.
I have seen decks 20 feet in the air that weren’t built that solid! Amazing! Also, love how you encapsulated the vertical beams on all sides with wood. Much more solid.
