Holy moly, that is a clean suspension for 370k! It must live where they do not use road salt. I had to soak mine with pb blaster for days when I changed the lower control arm.

307k. But yea we are in the southeast. Fortunately rust isnt really an issue for vehicles that have lived here their whole life. I do not envy mechanics that work in the north / snowy areas.

Great video, a full teardown like this will help me plan my suspension rebuild. Keep it up!

Thankyou so much for this video, I live in my own and just got my first car. Not close to family nor have many friends that are mechanics. I was so intimidated from doing my front end on my 05 civic but this video is my angel. Thankyou again for the content man.

Nice video, was good to see the strut and lower control arm replacement with ball joints. I have this job coming up, got lower control arms, ball joints and sway links already just need to buy the struts!

Pretty straightforward approach. Was curious what my cousin was facing with his 02, so thought I would get familiar with the steps he was looking at. Thank you.

I had to rebuild my manual transmission in my 2001 civic. Replaced shift linkage struts sway bar end link lower control arms wheel bearings and hub and all engine mounts and tranny mount rear main seal fly wheel and clutch and new axels. Gonna save the tie rod later. Mine has 167,000 miles on it

Fantastic job! Very straightforward and understandable video. Congrats! Quick question: Why didn't you replace the front sway bars while you were at it?

I assume youre referring to the sway bar end links. They were still in good shape. Thanks for the support

Hey Brotha! I appreciate the video! I love these old cars, too. I want five 7th gen civics in rotation - I drive all day everyday for my job over this tristate SE area, and further. Any other seat gets me sore, but not these for some reason. Haha. I've got a coupe and a sedan, so far, both 2003's 5spd. Prob nearin half million on the sedan, and thinking of a full front end rebuild, but, from experience, I am very wary about the low aftermarket quality in these parts, especially when I rely so heavily on them. From your experience, can you recommend good lasting quality parts brands and even ones to avoid when it comes to all things suspension? Many thanks and best wishes!!
@ballsoutperformance
@ballsoutperformance 2 месяца назад
The only aftermarket I recommend for suspension is MOOG. For wheel bearings, MOOG, National, or Timken. I used to do suspension work for a living, and thats the only parts I seen that held up, other than OEM.

@@ballsoutperformance I'm just interested in a OEM or better ride - but quiet, comfortable, smooth as possible with the short wheelbase, but also heavy duty for high speed RR tracks and potholes. I pretty much floor it between stops. I mean, it's a 5spd, right? Haha Would just replacing bushings with some space age upgrade material in my current OEM parts be a better option then MOOG? When I look for high performance parts, I always find race/lowering stuff, but not much for an OEM+ ride. I don't wanna pay thousands, but is there a next tier or two up of some specialty high performance type parts I should consider? Ya know - the most for the least, type thing. Certainly not into diminishing returns, but don't mind spending for something that would make being in a civic all day everyday -highway and city with multiple stops- the best it can be. Thanks again, Archie!! New subscriber and binger. Haha

For a street car id just go with Moog. Theres not much middle ground between oem style rubber bushings and performance bushings (urethane). Urethane bushings are noisy and harsh riding, not pleasurable for a typical street car. Thanks for the support

Hi thanks for the awesome video. I had my struts replaced about a year ago with some RockAuto Monroe (172185/172186) quickstruts. The ride quality seems to be getting progressively worse (I feel the road too much) and lately it seems that I’m bottoming out, but only on the front right side. It’s difficult to re-create the problem as it only happens when I hit a certain type of bump (ridge?) on the right side. If both wheels are going over the bump it won’t happen. It actually sounds like I’m getting hit by a hammer on the undercarriage. It’s hard to explain but it’s startling. Anyway my question is, is it possible I could have an improperly fitted or installed strut on that side? What else could be going on?
@brigitterosales3735

Also too, I’m reading that people generally say Monroe struts are garbage for the Civic (mine 2005 EX) and that I should’ve got the KYB G struts. Does it matter what brand struts I have in here? Oh yeah and also my Civic has 300k on it and all we’ve done so far on the front end is tires, struts, tie-rod ends, rack and axles.

It hard to say exactly what it is. Based on what you have changed, i would check the lower control arm bushings for play, thats what was worn and noisy on mine. As for the monroe struts, i cant comment, ive never installed them on any of my personal vehicles. I have used kyb with good success. I would check those lower control arm bushings and go from there. I would then check for loose play at the top of the strut where it bolts to the chassis. The upper strut mount or as I call it the "top hat". Sometimes that can get worn and get play over time causing movement and noise.

Do you need to replace the entire time rod? Or can you just replace the tie rod ends
@ballsoutperformance
@ballsoutperformance 2 года назад
You can replace just the outer tie rod end if you want. It all comes down to what is actually worn out, and how far you want to go with the rebuild.

Shouldn’t you preload the suspension before tightening the bolts?
@ballsoutperformance
@ballsoutperformance 2 года назад
Its always a good idea to do final torque with the bushings loaded yes.
