Very helpful video, im planning on doing the same job cause im doing coil overs project, right now for the rear, and will change the hubs with bearings in the front, doing disc conversion on my GN car and the bigger discs. Installing parts from UMI as well

Dude that is such a cool idea i am going to try this on my 2000 chevy s10 2wd its so hard and dangerous to compress it with a spring compressor thank you
@hutchhiperf
@hutchhiperf 2 года назад
I installed a Coil Over Front Shock. The spring is captured in a way by the shock and your capable of lowering the compressed height by the bottom adjuster nut. I would NOT try that with a conventional spring set up. They make a spring compressor tool for that for a very good reason.
@adventures223

@@hutchhiperf thanks for the reply this is the same exact set up on the s10 a coil over front shock the shock mounts the same way yours does two bolts on the button and one nut on top that will hold the spring in place great video love the 442

Hutch, doesn’t look like it, but did you add any of the factory shims to the uppers? I’m using the UMI bolt kit but there isn’t enough thread to tighten the arm shaft down. 🤔. wondering if they’re expecting a shim or two or if for some reason the bolts they supplied are a hair too long.
@hutchhiperf
@hutchhiperf 3 года назад
I used no shims and the factory style bolts for mounting them.

nice, I'm in the middle of this now.. what spring rate did you use? i'm stuck between 450 and 500 for the front

Since I'm doing a Big Block, I went with the 500 lb springs in front.

The original bearing washer fit ok on mine with the Wilwood cap...just FYI. (84 Monte Carlo SS). So, not sure if there is some variance from the factory or what.

Probably just a change in washer by GM.

So, the rear seal was causing the drag? That rear seal had the bevel to keep the grease in? You left the rear seal in and just dealt with the drag? I wouldn’t think it would be much of a problem with all that weight and force with the roll.
@hutchhiperf
@hutchhiperf 5 лет назад
It isn't. It just felt wierd to me after I tightened down the bearings and checked it. The things are so light (hub) that there's no mass when spinning it. I think if it were a traditional large rotor on spindle I wouldn't feel any difference.
@HVACENGINEER94
@HVACENGINEER94 5 лет назад
I'm gonna tackle replacing the suspension on my 86 Grand National and going with tubular control arms and coil overs in the rear, although I may need to space out the rear wheels as the coil over's mount on a bracket system that would come too close to my comfort to the tire/rim.I'm impressed with your talent my friend. thanks for a great video's!!

I wonder if I can do the same approach with new oem springs?? Yours seem a lot shorter than mine will be
@hutchhiperf
@hutchhiperf 4 года назад
The shocks I used are Coil Overs where the spring is captured on the shock. OEM the shock and spring are separate. UMI and others have have nice drop spring and shock kits that work well with the G-Body. Check out UMI's "Green Machine".

@@hutchhiperf That is why you didn't need spring compressor?!
@hutchhiperf
@hutchhiperf 3 года назад
@@ardeshirdodangeh588 Yes. The spring is captured on the shock instead of between the body and suspension. I did need to put weight on the front end to get the shocks seated. The spring is held by the frame on one side and did need to be compressed. Just not that much because you can lower the seat on the shock all the way down.

Nice video! Do you have p/n for the bearing and seals used? Or did they come with the hub assembly from Wilwood?
@hutchhiperf

They were supplied by UMI Performance. I supplied a link to the Timken bearings that were sent with the hub ABOVE. Here is the Wilwood Tech Page on their Hub www.wilwood.com/Hubs/HubProd.aspx?itemno=270-12304 They are a BCA# A6 (inner) and A34 (outer).
