Nice job, answered some questions. I know from first-hand experience that most Chinese workers who build "export goods" have ZERO UNDERSTANDING of the What and Why of the things they build.

How in the H--- do you get that d-d protective cover off? Until I can do that, all the tips in the world aren't going to get me anywhere.

The covers are good for safety and bad for doing maintenance. I took some time to modify mine so I can remove the top half of the of the cover to slip my clutch and grease the U joint and pto cover. My clutch is made differently and has a strong spring underneath each nut. I put a paint mark across the clutch discs so I could tell when they slip. I had to back off the spring tention under the adjusting nuts a bunch before the clutch would slip. Putting the pto in gear would slip it a little, but very little. I mowed with mine for a couple of minutes with it loose to slip it a little more. It actually still mowed pretty good and the clutch was not hot, just barely warm. I tightened the nuts back to where they were when I started. I hope it will slip if I ever hit anything solid but not much chance of that where I mow with mine.

I just took mine apart today so that I could grease the zerk and noticed that my slip clutch wasn't gapped either. My husband is out buying me a torque wrench that will go over 100, too. My shear bolt wasn't even tightened. Thank you for the video!

How in the world did you remove that plastic cover over the slip clutch?

Clutch slip adjustment....Thx for the information. Keep in mind, John Deere does not manufacture any implements they only contract from Frontieer. So Fontieer probably manufactures rotary mowers for a multitude of different tractors. With that in mind the tech putting the clutch together no doubt didn't know what tractor specs to use, snugged it up, and painted it green. Thus the dealership did not check the clutch after it was delivered.

John Deere says they own Frontier. The question is: Who makes the implements in China for Frontier?

Thanks for the info. 4mm = 3/16 of an inch just under a 1/4 inch. My clutch has never slipped either, but I'm tired of going through sheer pins so I plan on slipping it. I actually have two movers with clutches and I'll be slipping both of them.

4mm is .1574 in. just under 1/8 inch. Close to 5/32.

@@cocarr1 Thanks, but confused on the 1/8 in. part as the 1/8 inch is .125 in. 5/32 = .1562, and 3/16 inch = .1875. So I am thinking that the statement would be 4mm is .1574 in. just over 5/32 which is equal to .1562 in.
